I think we should get Greenwood too but not for $750k a year, I don’t want us to be used as a leveraging chip again and our offer be used to extract more out of Adelaide. CEY would be a good get for the right price and deal! Not sure if he’d be keen to come up north though. Ellis I’m okay with as we’re not having to give up any picks to secure him. He’s a premiership player with close to 200 games up his sleeve he’s another mature body for us and will provide us with run on the outside I think people on this board are being far too harsh on him. Plus some of his salary could come from AFL ambassador roles surely.

I hope we really haggle with Carlton and extract as much as we possibly can from them. Even if we get pick 8 and Casboult thrown in as a sweetener that would be okay he could mentor our young forwards they need it, I’ve noticed he is fantastic with his positioning, reading the play and knowing where he needs to be when the ball drops so he could teach our forwards a thing or too because when we went inside 50 this year our forwards always had terrible positioning and the ball would just be turned over and come straight back out again. Besides King his leading at the ball was great for a rookie.

That sucks about Betts, was hoping he’d be keen to come up and mentor Rankine, would be good for Rankine to learn from one of the best in the business.

Isaac Smith would be a fantastic get for us and would provide plenty of run on the wing along side Weller and Ellis I like this a lot. And from what I hear if we offer enough he’ll be interested in the move up.
Word is we are into Isaac Smith real hard now that Burgoyne backflipped.

I think we have to get Greenwood and CEY not sure we should do Ellis, we will have to pay the most for
the longest to Greenwood but he is something we don't have a tough, big midfielder who can mark and kick goals.

We probably can get an older Hawk as well and or a mature Carlton player we want or a pick from them we can swap for a mature player from another club, Betts wife wants to go back to her friends in Melbourne apparently, its a long way down to earth after missing Burgoyne and probably Betts

Maybe Isaac Smith is a possibility
Isaac Smith would be good but you would need to trade for Greenwood and probably be asking a top 20 pick plus $750k for a player that gets 16/17 touches a game ........... Not really great

It's easy done. Pay Greenwood 500K plus 150K ambassadorial money from AFL. Do the same with Blakely who was put on a trade list apparently. Get to work Weller. If Pendlebury can get ambassadorial money then half of our players can be on it.
[/QUOTE]

I think this ambassadorial money is extremely over rated as most players are only getting $20k-$30k and its not really such a big deal
Tom Lynch would have got $150k from the AFL as he was the captain and higher profile (from reports prior to him leaving)

Don't really mind B Ellis, but Greenwood I pass. I accept it because Craig Cameron the list manager.

Personally i dont think he is a good fit for the Suns but im sure the management would know better than me.
 Its being reported around media that its $600k a year
Arguably the Richmond player who less impacts a game than any other in the team. If he's the best we can get, then we really are in for a long and horrific time. We have enough of these outside types who run around looking for the easy hand off and receive - don't need another but looks like that's what we get. Maybe he replaces Martin in a like for like which I'll hold judgement on but still doesn't get us the big bodied, grunt players we so desperately need. Greenwood, Blakely both worth putting a big effort into and Isaac Smith would be a much better outside/wing option than Ellis and probably similar money. Can't wait for this period to be over and see what we actually end up with!

PREMIERSHIP TIGER’S TIME AT PUNT ROAD ALMOST UP

Brandon Ellis is still very much a part of Richmond’s premiership quest for 2019.

But the 26-year-old defender is destined to join the Gold Coast Suns on a mega-deal, says Sam Landsberger.

“You can just about take this one to the bank,” Landsberger told AFL Tonight.

“I think he’ll sign that five-year contract and head up to the Gold Coast Suns.

“It’s a great get for the Suns. He might be a dual premiership player by then.

“He’s a free hit, they get him for nothing as a free agent.”

Ellis has played 174 games for the Tigers.

Brandon Ellis’ stats aren’t bad when you consider the beasts in their midfield he is contending with the likes of - Martin, Cotchin, Prestia, Edwards who win the majority of their ball out of the middle.

Maybe we are envisioning Ellis to have a more hands on role in our midfield where he can win more of the ball in his natural position.

Considering he is on the wing this stats aren’t too bad at all, his disposal efficiency is considered elite.

I thought opposite fwiw. I think we have plenty of grunt inside players but no class on the outside around the midfield.

Looking at our list as of this moment.

Swallow
Brodie
Miles
Miller

Are all your grunt in and under type with varying levels of ability who would play around the 22, however I wouldn't be adverse to getting one more.

Our pure outside mids IMO pretty much starts and ends at Lauchie Weller we need another mature player who can dispose of the ball. Ellis wouldn't be my first choice but it does fill a need.

Stat's look good with Richmond, hopefully he can do the same with GCS.

absoloutly we already have the ball winners they just need someone they can give it to who can actually use it.

This this this.

We are BEREFT of outside run. Ellis is a good pick up for us. Beggars can not be choosers.

They get Lynch Prestia Caddy we get Ellis in return on about the same money
Sounds fair
Well Lynch is essentially Rankine, we spunked Prestia's pick on Scrimshaw and Caddy went there via Geelong. It is funny how these things end up. However, I think Lynch will end up being on more than Ellis, about the same as Prestia and probably more than Caddy.

His stats in 2014-2015 on a wing were phenomenal. Averaged 26 disposals a game at 77% efficiency. Sure he’s as soft as butter and goes missing in finals but we are the turnover kings and need to address that. If we want to keep Luko & King then we need players who can hit them up not butchers spraying it towards them.
He is rated AFL elite for intercept possessions per game, uncontested possessions and kicking efficiency. We’ve spent 600K on a lot worse.

I think need to take this risk, worth it. I don't agree with soft as butters stuff, B. Hill, Gaff, all look a bit soft and their tackle don't stick but their jobs is distributed the ball and running capability.

If Ellis gets the opportunity to be soft as butter for us in finals I won’t complain one bit (only because it means we’re playing finals!!!)

Happy with Swallow and Brodie - Miles fills a temporary hole and is worth keeping for a year or two. Miller is not my idea of an inside grunt - would be better outside or replace with the type of player we don't have. Break the game open, win the hard and tight balls and get it out to the receivers. If we are OK with the mids we have right now - our results don't show it. 18 straight losses suggests we have some issues in getting the ball out and down into the forwards. Roll on 2020 when we'll be preoccupied with the Luko/King 'will they stay or will they go show'.

If we are spending $600 plus on Ellis we have honestly lost the plot.
You spend that sort of money on top end players not average players.
Please do not compare to Hill or Gaff --they are stars.
Don't waste money just for the sake of it.
Our record recruiting players from other clubs is simply woeful. Witts is an exception.

600,000 is not that much these days. When you are paying for a free agent you have to pay up to get them out of their club. On one hand we want to attract players but on the other we don't want to waste money. We have to try things. There won't be many premiership players wanting to come.
