I have been vocal for delisting Young and that’s only to re-rookie him on the rookie list.

The list squeeze is tight and he is one I could see being delisted for that purpose.

Hope Martin gets picked by you guys next year and he either stays or leaves end of year via FA and GC get a first round compo.

I think the idea that everyone on our list should be 'starter' quality is unrealistic at this point. I don't love Murdoch or Young as best 22 by quite a bit — but we do need to keep building depth, and when the inevitable injuries come, I'm okay with either of them coming in to do an okay job. Mature bodies still fill a need, even as second stringers.

It's just where we are.

Young should definitely not be delisted IMO. He would have played far more this year were he fit. We shouldn't be in any hurry to cut guys that can find the goals like he can with our insipid ways of going inside 50.

The way I look at it (and everyone see's things differently I know) is that we gave players like Young, Horlin-Smith etc a last chance in the AFL.

If you want to play at the highest level you have to absolutely grab it with both hands.
Collins,Hombsch and to a lesser extent Miles,did.
The others didn't.
I'd be happy to draw a line through them and go with draft kids whilst there is such an upbeat vibe around currently.
I get there were injuries, but we need players who will give 110% if they are on their last chance. If they don't instill that ethos into the draftees.

IMHO, when their chance came, Young,Ellis,Murdoch and GHS did not give their all.

It's a new start and standards have to be raised to show where we want to be as a club in 3 yrs time.

I'm sorry if that sounds harsh,or offends anyone, but no more mediocrity. The line has been drawn, and they are on the wrong side of it.

Experienced pro's who will give their all, and elite draft prospects must be the way to go from now on. If that includes Young (and yes he can play) - then he must be 100% sound and 110% committed.

If we take any DFA, that ethos must also apply. ( Tin hat on.. )

Take it easy. Check out Carlton results in the last 20 years with all the tradition, resources, membership and AFL assistance (yes you received multiple PPs too). Only the last year you had won 2 games and had percentage worse than Suns. Multiple wooden spoons too. And yes, everybody remembers your brown paper bags. Be humble and enjoy Martin for free.

Fair enough - I understand your points.

Conversely I’m sure you can understand why Carlton weren’t happy to budge either in the circumstances.

High end picks are like gold for us - sure not going spend them unnecessarily.

Martin for free would be a fabulous outcome - but still could easily go pear shaped.

Time will tell.

Strange. I thought Kreuzer, Murphy, Gibbs, Walsh, Weitering were all pick 1's.
I thought Petrovski-Seton, Dow, O'Brien, McKay, Curnow were all recent top 12 picks. I must be thinking of another mob.
