Some staff very surprised as well.

Dawson I'm not surprised as played the last 6 games and didn't embarrass himself.

Heron is just not going to make it - besides running fast what else does he do at an AFL level.

Philosophically maybe you give that extra year to an academy local who will stay forever over an interstate kid if it is a borderline decision?

Yeah Dawson probably gave himself a lifeline, and you are probably spot on about Heron. Keep the Queenslanders on the list to keep up appearances

Anyone have any thoughts on Cooper Stephens at 15? Big bodied midfielder that apparently is a contested player who can accumulate and has acceleration.

Could be another Brodie but you can probably have a number of these players in a team if they are good.

these two guys throw a small question mark over Stewies decision making on list management, maybe he is a genius and these guys will flourish soon but I don't think either are AFL standard nor will be...… I hope its not a case of these two pandering to Stewie as good "trainers" or "favourites" but when they keep getting games it makes me question why

Stephens should be a very good player, but he doesn’t have a huge point of difference to what we already have on the list. Is an almost solely inside mid like Brodie so he would struggle to get a game. We need outside mids with pace and skills, Dylan Stephens is who I want. We really need to try and package 15 and 20 up to get into the top 10 and get him. Would be a good get

I won't go into bat for Heron as he probably shouldn't be on an AFL list.

In terms of Dawson what you need to consider is that as a Cat B rookie he only has to be better than the next best academy or international player to justify his spot. As such the question is whether he is better than Gore, Ashton Crossley or Conroy, not whether he is better than the next Marlon Pickett/Sydney Stack.

I look at the teams with picks 6-11 and can't really make much of a case for them to trade down to our picks.

Gore and Conroy will go Rookie A , Crossley not sure about now

These guys are more likely to be extended on the academy list for a further 12 months like Dirk Koenen was this year
I think the interest for them elsewhere is too strong for them to even consider that option . With five places left at n the rookie list there is no reason why those two would not be among them.

They went to the state draft combine rather than the national combine... There were 79 players at the national combine. I would suggest your comment about strong interest is a little far fletched. Note 118 players were invited to the state combines.

I have been told one could go mid draft based on their rep performances. Maybe other people rate our academy kids higher than you. Note only 57 actually tested at the national combine and some were long shots invited as they didn’t play in the nab championships. Some of the 22 that didnt participate have serious long term injuries. It is a very shallow draft , worst in ten years

Only one going mid draft is Connnor Budarick.

Rosas Jnr and Gore are similar players type of players so I reckon his spot has been taken. Conroy is a little undersized for a ruck so I reckon we will hit the state leagues for someone >2m

Budarick could be taken like Rosa as there are no list spots left. Gore actually is more of a pure goal kicker than Rosa who plays higher up the ground. Conroy is the best underage ruckman in qld and has been earmarked for a spot for a long time

Budarick and Conroy just named as rookies, to get Budarick as a rookie to be honest is over the top given his ability

Solid draw for us this year.
Essendon,Dees and the toothless ones in Melbourne plus Dogs in Ballarat. Geelong in Geelong.

I'm going to struggle to see a win next season I reckon. Best chance v Bombers probably.
Last round v Collingwood. Yay. Especially if they need to win to get top 4 and we beat them....

Reckon a 5 game Vic membership will be offered next season, or just a 3 game Melbourne one?

Last years deal was a very poor incentive $220 for:

Access to 14 games:
  • 5 GC SUNS Games in Melbourne
  • 6 additional games of your choice at the MCG within the AFL Members Reserve (excluding Anzac Day)**
  • 3 home games at Metricon Stadium with access to General Admission seating on Level 2 (exclusive to members) & Level 1**
The 5 games was fine, but 6 random games and 3 games in QLD really wasn't much use at all. If I could afford to fly to QLD 3 times a yr I'd need to work 3 jobs!

I honestly think we'd get a few more Vic members if we offered a 3 game and 5 game option, without the extra's.
Lets be honest - anyone who lives in Melb will pick the Qld game of their choice and go anyway - it's not like any game is going to get even close to selling out, so why offer 3?

Make a specific 3 game package for Bombers,Dees and Pies and I honestly think we'd shift 100 - 150 extra. Hell, I reckon I could talk 3 ir 4 people into getting one!

It does need to be thought about seriously - a lot to like about next season, and a 3 game $50 membership would sell very well (and a 5 gamer for $80 it you want to go to Ballarat and Geelong)

Club should seriously consider this. :whitecheck:
