List Mgmt. 2019 Draft/Trade/FA Thread - Final Wrap

When does the final draft order get announced. My guess is that that would have to factor the rookie elevations (which have yet to be announced by many clubs) to get the amount of available list spots and then compile it from there. We would only have five picks if Holman stays where he is
My guess

4 draft picks - Anderson, Rowell, Bianco, Gould

pre season draft - Josh Walker

Rookie - Gore, Parnell, Burrows (Stuart)

What do you think

Listened to the Final Siren podcast Phantom draft episode.

Had us taking Weightman at 15 and Jay Rantall at 20.

Never considered Rantall in that range. Looked him up and sounded a bit like Schoenfeld if he had the potential to be a good AFL player - maybe a Tom Phillips type

Played Basketball for Australia, set the record for 2km at the draft combine (Schoenfeld), but unlike Schoenfeld has showed ability to rack it up, lay good tackle and clearance number. Weakness is he is raw and his kicking needs to be developed.

Sounds like someone to be in the mix at that point

Inclined to believe this is true given Luko's response to what his favourite thing about the Gold Coast was: "The lifestyle. You can escape from footy or anything that's going on and still be a normal person, but still everything at the club is what you need to be a professional athlete so I think we've got the best of both worlds." It just goes to show that not every player likes the footy bubbles down south. You only have to look at the recent situation with Joe Daniher wanting to get out of Melbourne to join the Swans for more proof.

What's super exciting is that even though we're absolute rock bottom in terms of ladder position, we're appealing to hugely talented prospects/players like Luko, King and even externally with the likes of Crouch. This leads me to believe that player recruitment is going to be a walk in the park for us when we are actually performing well on the ground!

Looks like we're officially not drafting Ashton Crossley as he and Ryan Gilmore just signed to play for Southport next year.

I believe there’s bad blood between the Crossley family and the Suns.

Few issues brewing

Industry sources have suggested Suns coach Stewart Dew is a big fan of WA under-18 captain and Larke medallist Deven Robertson, so it wouldn’t completely shock if they decided to package up picks 15 and 20 to land the midfielder. Gold Coast have also shown interest in West Australian Trent Rivers, who looks likely to be available at pick 15, as well as South Australian Will Day.

Who are we most likely to trade with in order to secure Robertson? I imagine Freo will be eyeing him off at pick 7/8 as he is a WA boy so that really only leaves us with Adelaide (pick 6) or Sydney (pick 5) because we know GWS and Melbourne are going to use their top 5 picks. Would either the Crows or Swans be willing to downgrade that far just to secure 15 & 20?

Can't see it happening for 15 and 20. Would need to add a future pick to get a top 9 pick.

How would people feel if we traded 15 and 20 for 9 after what happened with Martin?

God no, in such an even draft to pay significantly overs to a club that tried to serve us a shit sandwich is too hard to swallow

I wonder if he slipped out of the top 10 and was available at pick 11/12 say, if Dew and your recruiters liked him enough to pull the trigger and trade picks 15 and 20 to secure him there. Would be a massive boost to your future midfield adding Rowell, Anderson and Robertson!

There aren't many. Top of mind, Lukosius is one of those few. He has that same precision kick and vision but to an even more freakish degree sees the play unfold before it does to find targets not even Young would find, just knowing where everyone will be once the ball gets there, even in congestion. I've never seen anyone see how things unfold before he kicks like him.

A nice wrap for Jack........

Is Ashton really draft material anyway?
We've got a lot of inside midfielders and I'm not sure that he has done anything outstanding to warrant being picked up.
There would be zero talk of him being drafted by any other club.
Bit harsh, he compiled very respectable numbers in Allies and Neafl this year. Struggling to come up with the academy kids who may be rookied , there are up to 4 spots and apparently it’s an AFL condition that they be filled

Maybe you should bid on green . If you do, gws might trade 4,40 for 2020pick11, 15, 20. Is there any chance you bid on green.
Are you drunk? Why would we bid on Green for starters! Then trade pick 4 for 11, 15 and 20 cause the 40 would be useless.... if there was ever a worlds strongest pass this would be it

Also according to Knightmare Luko should get out of Suns asap as we will never develop him properly and play him in the wrong position.
They need to play him forward and not back or that's what will happen. An absolute champion in the making and we've already smashed or burnt out a few who would have made better forwards - Ah Chee, Martin and others. Ballard is a future flanker or even mid, Powell gets smashed down back and Luko was not in a happy place in defense. Some guys are just better selected as forwards - not everyone is a Luke Hodge.

He won't always be in the backline, but for the time being it helps his defensive skill of the game. He wasn't getting the ball as a forward at this point. In the future, no doubt. He and King probably will get paired up. But luko could end up as a swingman. Ability to play at either side. Just like King.
