Considering this is the Trade and Draft Thread.
With Alex Davies looking as a Potential 1st Round Draft Pick next year in the vein of Bowes. who thinks the club should offload next year's 1st round or very least 2nd round pick in this years trade window to secure a proven player or higher pick this year?
Keep it. Pescud is projected to be better that Gore. Score 4.1 VS rebel. If both worth first and second Rd use it don't need to trade it away. I think GHS, Murdoch, Miles and Corey Ellis all signed 3 years deal so can't really delist more players next year.

Anyone see how Budarick played today? and know how he is ranked within the draft prospects this year?
There is youtube for both Vic metro and Vic country games VS Allies and SA. Better you watch it and form your own analysis.

Just watched a video of him on the Suns website.
Do you know his descent? Looks like some of the torres strait islanders with asian - often japanese heritage.

I’d rather draft kids and try and get a superstar or two from within at the moment. Would rather wait till we finish in the 10th-12th range Before we do that sort of thing.

Good stuff Mr Bods, get Holman or Collins type not those prima Donna GHS, Murdoch type. If Academy players really that good use GC own draft pick like Bowes.

Looking likely you guys will have a top 2 pick. The top handful of prospects are all midfielders. Rowell and Anderson are the consensus top two, Brodie Kemp played a terrific game today for Vic Country with 27 touches and the match winning goal, he’s a 193cm, tall midfield beast. The one I love the look of though(he’s had a fantastic carnival for Vic Country) is Caleb Serong. Had another 33 touches today. Absolute gun and would be a great get for you guys I reckon. The perfect fit for your developing list.

I haven't seen Serong play.
Twomey talks about him starting as a small forward. Why is that? Is he more similar to a Ben Ainsworth or Tom Papley or Jade Gresham? All different players but similar forwards - mids.

If GC can get Kemp, Gould, Taheny, Serong and Budarick in this year ND draft, and the rest GC academy as rookie A and B, next year just get Davies and prescud and upgrade one player.

Listen, you and your Lions buddy are antagonistic trolls who love to bait actual Suns fans. When I stand up to your baiting and bullying you cry wolf. I do not know what kind of perverse pleasure you get out of it, but you persist with it so you must be getting your thrills out of it. Briztoon has a long history of antagonising me and I won't take his crap. He has previously described the podcast I'm on as "inane and boring" so when you take his side it doesn't reflect very well on you.
I’ve never once commented on your podcast. I’ve never listened to it.

I think you’ve got me mixed up with some one else.

I edited the above to remove the strong language because I detest people making up falsehoods about me.

I’d like you to find the post, and link it, with the post number, where I called your podcast inane and boring.

I don’t antagonise members, or single people out (apart from Peel, but he’s a special case). I don’t even remember previous discussions with posters. Unless I’m in a genuine, long running discussion, I rarely even look at posters names.

As far as I’m concerned, this is all one sided on your behalf, because I don’t remember our previous interactions.

Ranked probably anywhere from 15-30 on most draft boards.
Hopefully a bid will come after Brisbane's first rounder.
I believe he’ll be bid on mid to late second round.

I haven't seen Serong play.

Sort of similar to Ainsworth in regards to power, but he’s more pure midfielder, rather than forward mid.

I believe Twomey said he likely will start off forward because of his stature, and it will likely take him a season or two to build up the size and endurance needed for predominantly midfield minutes.

How have we gone speculating on future draft picks, I think the answer is pretty obvious

2017 Suns Trade and Draft period

Wil Powell (#19 from Ablett Trade)

Charlie Ballard (#42 2nd part of Weller trade)

Brayden Crossley (3rd round pick from cursed West Coast trade)

Connor Nutting (3rd round pick from Crows with Wigg and future 4th for #39*)

Josh Jaska - Rookie

Nick Holman - Rookie

Jacob Dawson - Rookie/Academy

Jacob Heron - Rookie/Academy

Lachlan Weller (with #42 traded for #2)

Aaron Young (traded for 4th round pick from Wigg deal*)

Harrison Wigg (traded in package for a pick*)

*essentially, pick #39 bought Wigg, Young and Nutting
Wil Powell (#19 from Ablett Trade)
Gold Coast gave up Ablett, a Round 2 pick (24) - Tim Kelly and a 2018 Round 4 pick- not using it , while the Cats gave up an end of Round 1 pick (19) - Powell and a 2018 Round 2 pick - trade to Brisbane .

With so many second Rd pick before traded it to Eagles, isn't it better to use it on Worpel and Constable instead of Nutting and Wigg ( still can use petrucelle pick on them plus Crossley . I mean eventually Jez Mclennan pick is Eagles lycett pick and Sydney pick for Rowbottom is GCS second Rd pick.

haha, blew that post out of the water.

Brodie Kemp is who I would be picking in the draft. He has the size, the contested ball winning and absolutely unbelievable acceleration for someone his size. Would be an A grade mid, I’d take him over Anderson as VM boys have a bad tendency to get homesick. Especially ones in the Sandy team I’ve noticed. I’ve watched Kemp play at Bendigo for a little while as it is my home town. He is a jet, really want him

im actually of the mind to trade next year's picks if we can secure the services of some of these players we have been linked to e.g Blakely and Langdon.
we should be rising out of the bottom 4 next year (especially if we secure an expierenced midfielder) and I would rather keep our picks this year.
Other teams would jump at the chance for our picks next year as they would like their odds of a high pick. We can still get Davies no matter how highly rated he is.

I think a guy with true forward nous would be good for us.
Just wish he was 185 not 178ish?

He is about the same size as my son 180 played chf yesterday so can’t be too small. If he plays afl he won’t average 30 possies but will kick goals. The fact that 5 players from your academy starred in a win v Vic metro is a tribute to the hard work done by Raines and the academy coaching staff

I really don’t think we should be looking at trading our future first round pick at this stage, no matter how good our kids in the academy are rated, unless an out and out gun wants to come up here.
Look at what happened to Carlton this year, were expecting to get out of the bottom 4 and push up the ladder. Now they’ve given up pick 1/2 for pick 11ish and 19. Way too much risk for us with the West Coast pick swap still fresh in our minds.

If we finish 18th the threat of the PSD gives us leverage that we pay a fair price and not an overpay for an uncontracted player (e.g Blakely).

In my mind fair value for Blakely would be either the Lions pick or what we get for Jack Martin when he leaves.

Every case will be different.

But a bit like the Weller trade, if there is a good player who wants to play for us, and they are also a plus off field, then suspect we will be all in with the Lions pick. But that is a big If since that has happened about once in our existence. Actually, a total of Once.

But Boddsy above is right. The best way for us to build a finals winning team (top 6 finish) is to draft top end talent and develop them.

To finish top 6 we need top end mids. A good chance there are a couple on the list already, but the best way to increase our chances is up the pointy end of this years draft.

I agree that the Suns probably have the majority of the midfield talent on the list already - have a look at the Cats before 2007 if you don't believe me, with Ablett and Bartel showing flashes but never able to bust games apart despite having plenty of other talented players around them who would also go on to be a part of their success after the huge shift in the way Geelong ran their footy club. 10th to 1st with only the addition of rookie Joel Selwood. If the Suns are to turn things around in term of ladder position and overall success, elite talent is needed and those players need to be midfielders who can play multiple positions, preferably big boys or fast or even both. I don't think we can use another Will Brodie, as much as I like him and his style, he just can't play anywhere else.
I’ll sound like a broken record but once again Kemp is the man to draft. Can play forward and back as well as midfield.
But we do need an A grade mid in that 22-26 year old range
