smith not a bad tap ruckman, useless around the ground. Nicholls, Useless in the air, good follow up tackler and clearance player
I’ll take Nicholls then
Don’t forget he’s also not a bedwetter like Smith or did we show Smith the door?

I think we pretty much let Smith leave. I think he's a born and raised Queenslander, so makes sense he'd want to settle back here.I’ll take Nicholls then

Hey Footy Nerds of BF....who’s the better back up ruck these days: Zac Smith or Tom Nicholls??

I don't think GCS want neither of them.. The drive is not there. Not good enough for AFL and stayed too long on AFL list to bthat have advantage over semi pro ruckmen in VFL and NEAFLClub call I guess.. might be a judgment based on list spots? ...

Also the game plan, GC have Peter Wright, Sam Day and Witts currently playing forward/ruck and Ruck /forward. I would keep Nicholls if he is Rookie B like Collingwood Cox ( few years ago) , currently he is just keeping Crossley from improving his ruck work in NEAFL.Pretty sure he will be delisted at years end .. so it more a choice on list positions. Will he take games away from younger players etc.
pretty sure Smith was part of the GOD squad. Thanks I remember we got only steak knives for him so I’d like it cleared up.
Will affect whether the welcome mat comes out or not.

Can be based on ladder position, but that's not the sole criteria. Are compo picks based on ladder position?
If so, a 2nd round compo would be after our 2nd rounder.... that we traded to the lions.
Also, please lose all the rest of your games.
Gold Coast Suns are expected to again ask the AFL for some extra draft assistance if their young side fails to add to their win tally in any meaningful way.
The Suns haven’t officially asked for help yet but given CEO Mark Evans is lobbying the league for help to rise up the ladder quickly, it will happen with only three wins.
Zac Smith is out of contract at the Cats this year, with some speculation he could return to the Suns as a back-up ruckman to Jarrod Witts given he wants to return to the area to live.

Thinking about the list you probably need to keep Day around given the lack of mature talls at both ends of the ground (given Leslie would have to be delisted at the season). Given the injuries / lack of production during his recent lucrative contract it would have to be on the Sun's terms.
Actually, Zac Nicholls would be a pretty good player.
Also, I would gladly accept a priority pick this year thank you AFL.......(even though you are all over-paid and over-promoted which is what always happens with administrators of successful sports especially where said administrators had very little to do with making the sport successful in the first place).
If a Priority Pick or 2 or 3 was OK for the Hawks, Eagles, Tigers, Dogs and Pies (who all won flags, thank you very much), the Saints (should have won a flag), the Demons (OK that bit is a stretch, but they did get flogged in a prelim final; what we wouldn't give to get flogged in a prelim) and Carlton.....(yep, taking the pi$$ now, but really this is the exception that proves the rule).
Then It Is OK for the Suns.
The first rumours were that he wanted to head back to Hawthorn.Rumour that Brad Hill wants to go back to Melbourne.
Hill > St Kilda
Max King > GC
Collins > Freo
In all seriousness, if the rumour is true then perhaps we could get into the mix with the Lions 1st rd pick
Say pick BL 13 + Richmond 2nd round > Freo
Hill > Richmond
Jayden Short + Scott Jones (back up ruck) + Freo 3rd round > GC
They can have Burgess, we definitely keep Collins, although having both King twins would have them as long term players for the SunsRumour that Brad Hill wants to go back to Melbourne.

It would not surprised me at all if AFL give us the priority pick and straight after our first pick. AFL is stupid enough and can manipulate system as they want. The secret formula in only one component, at the end the Commission decides whatever they want. Rowell + Anderson would help for sure.I think there is a real chance that we get that pick 2 or 3 priority pick as I can't think of too much else the AFL could do to be seen to be assisting our on-field progression.
If we finish 18th and don't add any more wins, the fact that the top 2 picks would fit perfectly into what we need and are best mates which should help on retention and culture.
It is critical that next year our midfield is significantly upgraded in order to give players like King, Luko and Rankine a bit of supply so that they have a chance to win games of AFL and see a future.
“The decision of the Commission to award Special Assistance will be based on a Club’s on-field performance in recent years and any other matter the Commission regards as relevant. A confidential formula will be used to help assess recent on-field performance, but this will be only be one relevant consideration.”
it was a joke given Collins was delisted by Freo previouslyThey can have Burgess, we definitely keep Collins, although having both King twins would have them as long term players for the Suns

The most likely scenario is that Hill is part of the Tim Kelly trade and ends up at Geelong.
It would surprise the hell out of Lions fans.It would not surprised me at all if AFL give us the priority pick and straight after our first pick. You don't have to explain it to me. AFL follows no logic or what is fair.It would surprise the hell out of Lions fans.
I believe the days of beginning of first round PP's are gone.
The AFL set a precedent when they gave us (the Lions) an end of first round PP. They then turned us down the following year when we had second successive 5 win season, telling us we had enough young talent on the list and that it would take time for them and the team to grow and improve.
And this was a big reason why the AFL turned down Gold Coast and Carlton's request for PP's last year, but rather gave both teams priority access to mature age talent.
The AFL will point to the metrics that your team is on the improve, it's just not reflected in the win loss column just yet. Improvement is not linear at this early stage. You do have the foundations of a team, both in experienced players and youth, it just takes time.
And a top end PP won't improve your on-field performances next year anyway. It would help set you up for 5 years time when you're challenging for a top 4 spot.
If you lost a couple of your highly rated kids, especially for unders, then a PP might be appropriate. But then we're back to square one and asking the question again, why is retention a problem.
If Gold Coast can somehow minimize their injuries like Brisbane has done they will be fine. Their top 22 is more than competitiveYou don't have to explain it to me. AFL follows no logic or what is fair.
