I actually don't mind AFL shut it down. Whether they move some players to Tassie or Brisbane I don't really care.
Please don’t be a peanut!
I know you are frustrated, as we are also, but keep that trash talk out of our thread. Keep it productive, analytical, interesting but not malicious towards our own club...

Players I feel comfortable trading or delisting:

Burgess
Dawson
Ellis
Hanley
Heron
Horlin-Smith
Joyce
Leslie
Miles
Miller
Murdoch
Nichols
Rischitelli
Scheer
Schoenfield
Sexton
Wright
Who do we cut from the Senior and Rookie lists?
People were surprised about "only 8" but who can be cut
From most to least likely

Martin-likely to request trade
Riska
Wigg (sad part of footy but it is what it is)
Leslie
Heron
Dawson
?Joyce
?Schoenfeld
?Nutting
?Hanley(possibly RookieA)

There's not much that else can be cut that I can see

I agree to another poster opinion, that is nothing malicious about it.
You cherry pick poster and attack them, when it is is too positive it is 17er and when the other way it is me or Bodsy. What have you posted show you support Gold Coast Sun that are analytical and productive that after 9 years still the same loop happening.

I'd put Sexton and Miller up for trade or at least test the waters - somebody else might want them and we might be able to get something better.

I'd go along with most of those except I'd hang on to Miles and also rookie Hanley if he feels like going around again. Nichols also hold as insurance for Witts but on reduced contract. The rest are trade bait or flick totally.

So with the lions win they are 3rd on the ladder and clearly building. Our trade swap now looks like this we have given up pick 19 last year plus currently pick 19 this year and pick 37 and in return we get currently pick 16, yep 16 maybe not as bad as the Eagles debacle last year but ****ing stupid none the less.

You can only wonder what another quality kid would mean to us (Liam Stoker was taken with pick 19) during another big injury list

Jack Lukosius's kicking of the football is sublime

Did anyone else notice when Charlie Ballard was moved forward he didn't fly for marks or look comfortable at all when the ball came in yet when he is back he reads it so well and more often than not wins marking contests or intercepts comfortably. Was a very interesting situation how just putting him forward completely threw him and put him off balance
Really hope he follows Rankine’s lead and commits to the club soon

Depends on what the AFL is offering behind closed doors — and the AFL should be communicating what we are going to get, even now. IF Rowell and Anderson are on offer then I'd keep Sexton and Miller, for now. A group like Swallow, Bowes, Fiorini, Rowell, Anderson, a decent-ish fast (mature) mid, partnered with Rankine and Ainsworth running mid-forward, will very quickly push guys like Miller and Sexton out of the team. But Miller and Sexton will provide better depth options than heron and rischitelli.

We should still have trade stock through guys that will be asking to leave like Martin, Brodie. The AFL assistance needs to be known.

Trading Sexton and Miller???

They aren't A+ grade players, but 2 blokes that bleed Red and Gold, would never think about it.

In a better team with more goal threats Sexton probably kicks more goals but tbh 28 goals to this point is a fair effort for a small forward in a poor team. If he can finish the season with 35 goals, that is a pretty good season.

Need to hold onto Sexton and Wright.
Both could destroy us in a team with a half reasonable midfield.
Wright with his 55m goals and sexton throwing it over his shoulder any given second

And burgess is the perfect third tall in attack or defence.

Just need a midfield that can hold onto the ball rather it constantly sling shotted into our defence

Also think Scheer should be persistent with.
His tagging work the past few weeks has been impressive.

The rest is worth a second Rd pick for the lot.

My solutions to the go some ways to fixing the Suns:
  • A PP, maybe 2. 1 & 2, then 20 & 21. Might be a bit much asking for 2, but pick 1 should be a certainty. A core of 4 high picks combined with the 3 last year is a mini-rebuild essentially completed.
  • Temporary boost to salary cap. The rest of the league will lose there nut, but it needs to happen. Sorry Eddie. By temporary I mean 10-15 years worth. Really get the team established before bringing it back.
  • Expanded zones. I like the NT idea.
  • Another round of access to reserve league players, probably 2 again. They won't set the world on fire but they'll add some depth.
This isn't specific to the Suns, but rather is league wide, though it will have a big impact on the Suns: Draft pick contracts extended.
Rd 1 - 4 years
Rd 2 - 3 years
Rd 3+ - 2 years

I would copy the NFL model, personally. 4 years with a 5 year club option for first round picks. In the AFL that gets them to 23 years old with the club option. Still a whole career ahead of them if they do want to move on. Though I really doubt the AFLPA will allow this. Best case I see them upping it to 3 years. 4 years should be the minimum imo.

Either way, 2 years is a joke. That's no amount of time to truly integrate yourself into a team and community.

P.S. even though I'm a Carlton fan first and foremost, I'm a Suns foundation member and have been to every home game at Metricon the last 3 years (very rarely missed any more before that tbf). I want this team to be successful.

How can you possibly trade Sexxy?
People interstate can't believe he recommitted
He'd be worth much much more on the market but he loves the Club, is a club leader and is one of the best small forwards in the AFL
If you hadn't noticed one of our problems is kicking goals and getting I50's and effective kicks and marks inside 50
Ranked 18th for every one of those
What Sexton does off the back of that shit is pretty remarkable IMO

Just at a guess from what Cameron had said in that podcast about moving on around 8 people.

Out-
Martin
Wigg
Leslie
Heron
Nutting
Nicholls
Dawson
Rischitelli (Retired)
Schoenfeld (Contracted till 2020, so probably hangs around)

They would be my 9.

Would keep hold of Brodie, no point in offing him when he is at his lowest value.

I delist Joyce too and Rookie him , if somebody take Him in national draft the better, he is a dumb footballer, can mark but then kick it back to opposition.
I like Jesse and when he is confident and up and going I think his disposal and decision making is elite, he reads the play better than most in our team BUT the gap between his best and worst is waaaaay too much. When he is off and second guessing himself he is simply atrocious and costs us momentum shifts and games

The Afl should give right to GC to pick any Neafl players they desire I’m sure blokes like Hammelmann Maguire Smout Baker even a Tristan Davies would be good free additions. Atleast these blokes dominate the Neafl and would relish the Afl opportunity

The momentum shifts is real I am glad you noticed it, he nearly cost GCS a win when he kick it out of bounce without actually hearing the siren sound VS Carlton just half of a 10 second Carlton got the shot at goal.

It’s a process you twit. The club started with its hands behind its back, literally working out of tin sheds, it would be the equivalent of training in Alice Springs. We lost our players as we did everything around the wrong way and are now only just getting structures in place to stem the retention issues. We are now growing the way a normal club that did it the right way would, but we have lost a lot of talent in the process and have a handicap to work with now. We are not proud of the situation, nor did we ask for it, but it’s our reality.
We wanted a club, we got it. We probably assumed it came ready made, but it didn’t, we have had to build it from the ground up. What will be, will be. Suck it up if your a true supporter.

I can tell you now, you have not been attacked, you would know about it if I attacked you cupcake.

For the record, plenty of supporters read these forums to gain some insight about what’s going on, what’s around the corner etc. Not just to listen to people rabbit on and talk rubbish.
Stop taking it personally just because you were brought into line, look at it as a wake up call to stop talking shit.;)

Stop your nonsense, even Jonathan Brown said the same thing, if AFL not going to help just send the team to Tasmania , just because you want to support Carlton first does not mean Gold Coast don't need help. You are those supporter that appeared when the club had two trashing and VS Carlton your first team..o_O

Top three pick and NT zone. You can go back and support your Carlton.

If you get the right player in the trade then why not? He's one of our better players atm but when fit he's fringe. He's 26 and not consistent.. he doesn't tackle with the ferocity of holman, dmac, scheer, even miller if and when he gets moved into a negating role. He doesn't have the class of ah chee, martin, powel. His best is very good and I'd be more than happy to honour his contract but I wouldn't lock him in to the must keep pile. Just my opinion
