I don’t understand the need to recruit for the NEAFL.

Recruit for the first team. If they’re good enough they’ll put pressure on your best 22, or push someone out of your best 22, who should try hard enough in the NEAFL to get back in to the first team.
Is for AFL but I can't guarantee he is AFL standard just like when Holman came in or Darcy machpheson first few season. You need to reserve a bit when it come to players that going to be delisted and be realistic, Sam Collins only signed two years contract compare to Corbett and Burgess but he did perform better than both. I don't sell you a spud and said he is a superstar. You get what you paid for, anything extra is a bonus eg Lyon to Brisbane (longer and better contract without any pick) or pick 2 for Weller and Ballard. Ballard is a bonus. Nyhuis,, Collins already show they are capable performing in state league and win flag, I am not sure about Joyce eg no Neafl flag also. Transition period is very important, all not AFL standard in Brisbane NEAFL flag team are mostly gone but you need them to protect your kids during that time and have a winning mentality.

Every Suns fan supports another team some still follow the side they supported before the Suns join the AFL. They are their main team why they have the Suns as their second team. Then you have the Suns fans who jump off their old teams and try to calm they’ve never supported another team and Suns have always been their team. Yeah right like you’ll all started following AFL when the Suns came. I’ve just join BF been reading on here for awhile one Suns fans calms he only ever was a Suns fan joined BF in 2007.
You joined BF this afternoon solely to reply randomly on the GC Suns board as a Pies fan?? :drunk:
I supported Collingwood until 2011. I now despise them like every other Victorian club.

My kids all support & love the Suns and have never followed any other teams. So no, not every Suns fan has a 2nd team.....

My first memories are going to Arden Street to watch my Dad play.My brother was North my cousin was North. Our next door neighbours were the Bakers and the Longmires
Even I went down and trained
Raised as Royal Blue and White but they don't interest me anymore

There's 3 things about being a Suns supporter
Only the Suns
Never Brisbane
No-one else ever again

Feel the same... Loved the feeling of supporting the local team.

Used to support WC, no way I could ever go back after supporting a team from my local area.

If the Suns go, I'm done with football.

Always support your Local team, no matter where you lived before or who you supported before....I'm with Bodsy on that.....

I didn't always live on the GC, and am not living there now, but became a Member the first year of our existence, and am still a Member, and will continue to sign up every November, even though I have been residing in Thailand since 2005......

Everyone's entitled to support anyone they damn well please for whatever reason they want to.

The Suns can be someone's first team, second team, only team, pity team whatever, I don't care so long as y'all are nice and civil about it.

Now if we can kindly move this thread back to being on topic that would be grand.

the 250,000 kids in SE QLD that play AFL.. or whatever the figure that Coch loves to quote are new to the game.
Its the whole point of the GC Suns right.

It's not rocket science.. but guys that are 24+ years old are generally just better players than 21 year olds.

No surprise that Sexton (25), Lemmens (24), Collins (25), Witts (26), Swallow (26) have all looked better players this year than at any previous point in their careers.

As 21-22 year olds Bowes, Ainsworth, Wright, Joyce, Brodie, Ah Chee, Ellis, Fiorini, Weller, Macpherson gain another 2-3 years experience they will all be far better players than present. The good thing is it seems like most of that group is in for the long haul. Got to keep that core together. If they get to 24-25 years old as a unit, it makes the development of the current 17-19 year olds (Lukosius,Rankine, Ballard, Buderick, King, Powell, Riordan, Rowell) - who will then be in that 21-22 year old age group so much easier

Holman, Miller, Day + Sexton, Swallow, Collins, Witts, Lemmens, Hombsch should be at peak performance over the next few years. IFFF they can stay injury free and should a large brunt of the work - gives us a good shot at actually improving when looking at a 3 year plan.

A team 3 years down the track containing the below is still young on field (av age 24.5 years) but looks quite like a Brisbane Lionsesque up and coming team.

Joyce (24) Thompson (31) Ballard (24)
Weller (27) Collins (28) Lukosius (21)
Fiorini (24) Swallow (29) Powell (22)
Sexton (28) Wright (25) Ainsworth (24)
Rankine (21) King (21) Buderick (20)

Witts (29) Bowes (24) Rowell (20)

Brodie (24) / Ah Chee (24) / Lemmens (27) / Macpherson (24)

e: Holman, Day, Miller - all solid replacements

+ 2019 Top 15 pick from Lions
+ 2020 Top 5 pick from Suns
Jez McLennan, Riordan, Caleb Graham, Alex Davies, Corey Ellis

If the team stick together it opens a lot of options.
Package together a Brodie / Ah Chee / Sam Day / MClennan etc..with picks in the next 1-2 years to get a highly rated older player to boost the number of 27-30 year olds and add further maturity. Adelaide's team last night had 2 players < 24 years old. Can you imagine!

i dont often like what this bloke says and I really hate brisbane lions but he's got a bloody good point.

and whatever that pies supporter was waffling on about(it got kinda twisted) im a former crows fan and jumped ship as soon as the suns came on board to support my local team. I have absolutely no feelings towards the crows anymore and if the suns were to fold would abandon AFL as im sure many others would as their are quite a few passionate suns fans here that only support 1 team and only gave a damn about AFL when they arrived.
Spot on, I don’t even watch other games anymore. Suns fold and that’s it for me in the AFL

Hawks fielding this week 27 years 1 month old team, 14 players 100+ games!

Good team. Yes, I also expect there will be 2-5 players extra players we bring from outside to the list and top picks from next couple of years.

I would add to depth Hombsh, Miles, Corbett, Burgess, Crossley. I actually think Fletcher has a chance too besides young players you mentioned. Let's see how Heron goes today :) There is another talented academy player U17 Harris who may be on the list too.

Hoping I can still see Harbrow on 2021-22 team similar to Carlton's Simpson story. But not sure if he can survive current beltings mentally. His body language did not look good against Crows.

I don't see Martin on your team :) That's another round 1 pick 2019. According to Haines (today GCBulletin interview) he dislocated finger, will not play a couple more weeks. I guess we may still see him this year. Suns talking to him and his partner.

Yeah left off a couple. Assuming Dawson, Heron, GHS, Murdoch, Nutting, Nicholls, Scheer, Rischitelli, Schoenfeld, Wigg, Young gone by then.
Martin seems unlikely to be here.
Miles I think will be superfluous and potentially delisted by then.

Hombsch, Corbett, Crossley maybe Conroy decent KP depth.
Draft picks - Lions pick 15: Will Gould selected in BF phantom draft - was u18 All australian for consecutive years, compared to Shannon Hurn - a very solid 3rd tall defender with an excellent kick.
Top 5 pick 2020 - another top class midfielder.

Will see with Fletcher, I haven't seen him play so far.

I picked Gould for a couple of reasons.

First, I felt he was far and away the best player available at that selection, and he really is a top 10 talent.

Second, he has a mature body and is ready to play AFL now. Even though he has a big body, he still has room for improvement.

All the mids I liked for your second pick were all drafted just before your second pick.

The other player I considered was Trent Bianco who plays HBF and wing. He’s classy off either foot, has good but not outstanding speed, is not afraid to put his head over the ball. But he’s only 178cm and I felt GC already have a lot of shorter mids, especially after I drafted one with your first pick. And you’ll be matching a bid on another shorter play in Connor Budarick.

Gould can play on genuine third talls, medium forwards, and can play on smaller defenders that don’t have blistering speed.

He’s a very good read of the ball in flight, takes contested marks, will run the ball and then kick 60 metres, to advantage. He’s good defensively, and if he can’t lay a tackle, hits hard enough to stop a players momentum, that the player has to stop and make a decision, which gives a second defender time to close the ball down.

Lions currently 2nd on the ladder.

Our list management all need the sack.
In all fairness, if you had asked any Lions fan where they hopped we would finish, it would have been maybe just making the 8. Would have been happy if we finished just outside the 8, having shown improvement on the year before.

Given how giving up a future pick to the Sun's has been a lucky rabbit foot we should be auctioning it off to the highest bidder

Lukosius showing why he went Pick 2.

He's no ready-made star like Walsh, but his kicking is near elite.
In time he'll be a real weapon and will be capable of playing in multiple positions.

Absolutely have to retain him.
I think I'd be sick if I saw him playing in a Crows jumper next year.
Yeah he's going to be a ripper. His improvement as the season has gone on is really noticeable after a slowish start.

Is draft order decided on finishing order after the finals? BRISBANE hasn’t got that experience so maybe they’ll be bundled out sooner than expected.
