Agree. In the last quarter I could not believe how hard he chased until the last second together with Lemmens, Miller. And for sure it's no fun when every time we have the ball we turn it over, we chase, opposition score, repeat.

Sexton is a number one target for opposition in our forward line. Yes, sometimes he is trying to do too much on his own but most teams would be very happy to have him. He is our best scorer, probably our best runner, entering his prime. To trade him would be plainly stupid. And we would get only a pick back as no quality player will come at the moment most probably. How does that help us? Besides he loves the club and is great around.
If he gets traded l'll go... ing nuts.
Won't happen he's highly rated internally.

There is no disputing Rozee has been the better two of this season. But going back to you’re original argument Zaharakis and Hurley whilst great players and have runs on the board aren’t the demographic of players the suns are looking for. There a bit old by the tooth
In the context of discussion about experience, professionalism and on-field leadership, I don't see how they aren't the demographic of players your looking for. Ben Drever mentioned Nat Fyfe; there's 1 year difference between those players. Both Zaharakis and Hurley have been part of our leadership group for many years. A lot of the discussion here has lauded the work of Luke Hodge yet these guys are 'a bit old by the tooth'. Yeah, okay.
Parish was a gun in his first year when he played through the middle, while most of your list was suspended for a year.

Now he’s being played through the midfield, on ball again, he’s showing his true worth.

Hope you draft a decent kid with the Collingwood first round pick we send your way for Parish.
There's no question Parish was played out of position for a while, learning how to hit the scoreboard at hf. It has paid dividends. I hope we don't lose Parish, but there are rumours about. I don't think we'll receive, for instance, Touk Miller and Dave Swallow for him if his name comes up though, which is the premise gcsunsfc raised that I was contesting.

On that note, I'll bail. Interested in Wright or King still. We're missing Joey and have no certainty on his injury :(

Good luck with your drafting and trading.

Dyson Heppell or a Zach Merritt is more who we are after but I’m sure there untouchables. Both those players have leadership skills and hit all of the criteria of what is needed at the suns. We have Hanley and Harbow down back so older heads aren’t an issue there.

Even so, his tackle and disposal numbers for hb in a team that has had to play defensively, compared to a hf;
Rozee averages:
15 disposals
3.5 marks
4 tackles

Lukosius averages:
10 disposals
4 marks
2 tackles

One is a tall and one is a midfielder.

Funny how an 18 yr midfielder gets more touches and goals a game then a tall whose been floating between HB and HF

Think we might keep him. He's got his part time coach, part time media gig all sorted for next year.

There's some in the AFL media who are doing their best to put our footy manager David Noble, name out there as a potential coach for St Kilda. They can gagf, as we'd like to keep our current set up for a few years to get some stability.
I played footy against Noble as a kid in Hobart in high school, he was talented

After listening to the GCSunscast last night, Cal said Sam Day should sign a contract in the next couple weeks. Expects Jack Lukosius to resign while King waiting until early next year.
It seems like Cal was really impressed by Suns environment and by the young core of players. He also sounded much more optimistic about Suns future than most Suns fans on this forum.

Cal sounds like a good bloke, would happily buy him a pint. Road to the Draft is the only footy podcast I listen to.

Good to hear some of his opinions. Sam Day has shown he has some use, holding his spot in the team. Positive to hear from Cal that he thinks Lukosius stays on.

Yeah, he really sounded impressed by what he saw and witnessed. Not to mention impressed by the players, especially the young ones.

Not sure if that’s good or bad..
If we could of got a FA compo pick 3 or 19 I would prefer that.
And the money saved?

Where does Day play?
Lukosious and King need game time
Collins and Rory are defenders
Corbett’s a forward
And burgess swings both ways

Pick 19 could be traded for Hugh greenwood and Jordan Gallucci for instance from Adelaide

Add to our missing mature midfield depth

Well the general thought around it is that Sam Day doesn't want to leave and the club doesn't want him to leave; that's what Cal said. You fit him in the team somehow when you're a good player, and so they will find a way. His kind of experience at forward will only help those younger forwards around him.
So I certainly see it as a good thing.

Let's agree to disagree then and hope he turns out to be the champion we need up forward. Time will tell.

You're no hope of getting 3/19 as compo. IMO

We’re Zaharakis and Hurley part of your leadership group during the Hird era?
Serious question, not trolling.

Michael Hurley and David Zaharakis join the leadership group for 2012.
Essendon Football Club today confirmed the leadership group that will support captain Jobe Watson during the 2012 season.

Michael Hurley and David Zaharakis become the newest additions to the group which also includes Watson, Mark McVeigh, Brent Stanton and Heath Hocking.
Senior coach James Hird said the inclusion of emerging players Hurley and Zaharakis would add a new dimension to the leadership group next season.

Same here. He's a great footy personality and true student of the game. Love Road To The Draft.

Rozee: 20 goals from 16 games
Lukosius: 3 goals from 15 games

Zaharakis is a best and fairest winner while Hurley is twice All Australian. Zaharakis has a Rising Star nomination and Hurley has two.

With respect, I understand the frustration about the young talent being poached. If the consensus is that you need experience and leadership on the field, both of these players are very reasonable.

Lukosius, by comparison, hasn't demonstrated anything. Shown some promise in a handful of games. We see the same at EFC with Parish - a pick 5 who has only really started to show some mettle this year.

You won't receive two seasoned and successful afl standard players for an 18 year old who just got here, without something else going the other way, and that is a bitter pill.

In any case, I hope it can all work out for you. FWIW, many on our board feared losing Parish to Brisbane for a while because he and Mathieson are mates, like McLuggage and Berry. Might be something in that. 😉
Obviously your two have had good careers.
You left out the most important aspects of this trade. AGE.

Hurley and Zaharakis would be 30 by the time they played a game for the GC - with Hurleys injury history - might play another 2 years? Zaharakis maybe 3? Not many going around at 33+ years old.

Lukosius has been great in defence the past 6 weeks or so. Obviously haven't been watching.

I think we would definitely go for those types.
The problem is the asking price. Ben King for a pair that would be 30 before they play a game for us.

Maybe 2 or 3 years at GC respectively for Hurls and Zaka isn't enough time to have any positive and constructive influence on the way a player with 23 or so games goes about their business. Yeah, I don't get that.

A 2 time AA defender marshalling the backline for even one year wouldn't be worth exposing a player like Luko to. Sorry gcsunsfc, I don't get that either.

As far as I see, those 2 - 3 years would be development years. Astonishing things would have to happen for GCFC to be serious contenders in that time.

I think we're talking down different lines.
Someone with Hurleys experience would be great as a bridge for the development of our young team.
Lukosius would definitely benefit if he continued down back - don't deny that at all.

I'm just suggesting that the asking price in a trade you suggested was way off. You basically said Essendon give us Hurley - a 2 year player beyond his best for Ben King - an 18 year old key forward with 15+ years ahead of him. That was the part I am disagreeing with.

My Lukosius comment above was aimed at your comparison with Rozee, they play completely different roles - not really sure how or why he came into the conversation. Wouldn't necessarily take the performance of a 196cm player in their first year as representative of his future performance.

Its like saying - Hey Sam Draper hasn't shown anything at AFL level - we'll take him for a 5th round pick thanks.

Suns targeting Shaun Burgoyne
similars

"Gold Coast has set its sights on Hawthorn champion Shaun Burgoyne filling a Luke Hodge-type role for them next year.
The Suns’ plan is for 36-year-old Burgoyne to play in 2020 and then in 2021 if his body holds up.
As part of the package to lure the four-time premiership player north they would offer him an off-field role after he finishes playing."
