Unless we have the prospect of getting some seriously good senior players in, I would be working hard to get both if their words of being happy to come here are correct.
Yep. Two best mates getting drafted to the same club. Would massively mitigate the go home risk. And they are both absolute guns. If you were to only have pick 1 though, I'd be going with Rowell. Such a sure thing gun similar to Walsh in that regard. You just know he'll go on to play 200+ quality games. Would be the A grade mid you've been crying out for and ready to impact from day 1.

Ok pick 1.

A Lachie Neale/Tom Mitchell type, or a Marcus Bontempelli type?
A Bontempelli type is probably more what we need, unless the Lachie Neale type is very, very good. ;) From all accounts, Rowell is ready to play at a high level straight away, which would be handy. Hopefully we get a priority pick, so we can choose both.

I think other clubs will lobby strongly for us not to get a no. 1 priority pick, but we need to reframe it as an establishment measure, rather than an equalisation measure. We need to argue that our initial club establishment rules were inadequate, so we need extra help just to get to a decent starting point. I don't think the opposition to the no. 1 priority pick will be as strong if Melbourne finishes 17th, as if Carlton does. Most footy people would see Melbourne's list as being far better than 17th, whereas they would have sympathy for Adelaide cleverly trading for Carlton's pick, only to have it artificially devalued by an AFL decision.

Don't think there is too much sympathy for either Melbourne (due to finals last year and previously being rewarded for tanking) or the Crows (while shrewd trading don't desperately need it to remain competitive).

I hope you're right. I just think other clubs could picture themselves in Adelaide's position & feel it is unfair. I agree there's not much sympathy for Melbourne after the tanking & all their early draft picks.

Drafting 2 gun players, who are also best mates would be a great fillip for the Suns after our earlier problems with attracting & retaining players. I think we need more than one extra draft pick, but this one looks more useful than most.

Jack Martin and Brisbane’s pick for Melbournes pick 2

If we don’t get given a priority pick.

Is that around the mark?

Get the 2 best mates.

The safe bet Rowell

And the higher ceiling Anderson
Yeah, I don't believe that's enough. Especially in what's generally regarded as weak and shallow draft, on top end talent.

One Draft Podcast I listen to, believes there are currently 16 players worth selecting in the first round. They break their groupings in to tiers. And two of those players are tied to clubs as academy selections.

Players worth a top 3 pick (in a normal draft year)
Anderson
Rowell

Players worth a top 10 pick (in a normal draft year)
Tom Green (GWS Academy)
Will Gould
Hayden Young
Luke Jackson
Dylan Stephens

Players worth picking in the first round (in a normal draft year)
Lachlan Ash
Caleb Serong
Deven Robertson
Brodie Kemp
Liam Henry (Fremantle NGA)
Jeremy Sharp
Harry Schoenberg
Sam Flanders
Cameron Taheny

In the grand scheme of it the only team that would feel slighted if we got the priority pick is the team with pick 2 as there is no clear cut pecking order after that.

Edit: I wonder if the AFL would consider giving us the PP at 1 or 2 in exchange for taking our Lions pick from us. Certainly an upgrade that would help with retention in an area we need it.

Forward this to Gold Coast bulletin 😁

be nice to get a couple of intimidating mids like Greenwood and CEY or Brendon Ah Chee, would think any of them would consider a long term deal with us and would be best 22 we don't have any tough big bastards that make the oppo think twice
Bowes, Fiorini, etc could get on the outside of them
Brodie is a good size but like Wright and Burgess and Day they don't really use their size anywhere near enough to advantage

Interesting point.... have you changed your mind on Robertson ? No doubt the talent this year is not as developed or as obvious.

To me the logic of P2 for Martin says that should be enough.. perhaps some icing.. yet as you mention the draft this year may means P2 for Martin and P14-P18 may still struggle to get the deal done..
One advanatge in trying to get the deal done is Melb have had several early picks and they are aware of how the pick can tease but can fall short. Maybe Anderson is better than those picks .. but I think Melb do need to strike back hard ..just how much can Anderson give them in 2020? On the other hand... they did trade out the pick that could have gotten them Josh Kelly... would they do that again..

Does Kemp slip now he has done his knee..?
