Utterly mind blowing is that there was no Lions interest in Lyons during trade period yet when trade period was over Lyons wanted to go to Lions and asked to be de-listed with contract offer from Lions. Suns were happy to have Lyons on a list in 2019. Suns de-listed Lyons because he asked for it.

Brisbane had their hands full dealing with Collingwood trying to get the Beams deal over the line. That went right to the wire. I think GC were happy to tear up Lyons contract and get his wage off the cap. That's how I saw it. Could be right, could be wrong.

Brodie will be fine and with Swallow the start of a good midfield - need one really good additional player to support the kiddies - Bowes, Fiorini etc. Re Barlow and Lyons, we didn't keep either so mute point really. I preferred we keep both of them but wasn't to be.

I think the last few years have shown the Lions are pretty prepared to pay fair rates for players with more of a focus on getting a trade done and the players they target to the club rather than worrying about perceived value. I mean you only have to look at the Cameron trade to see that. We had pick 12 and 15 in that draft and probably could have argued over the 3 pick difference but the focus was on getting the player we were after rather than a 3 draft pick difference. There was a fair bit of consternation on the lions board about it too, but it has certainly been worth it.

If it ends up being accurate and we are after Ah Chee then I'm sure the lions and suns will end up working out an appropriate deal. As with most trades these days it will probably be a number of picks flying around in exchange and quite possibly using ones that the two teams don't even have at the moment (given how many pick trades happen).

As for what Ah Chee is worth from a lions perspective I wouldn't have him at pick 15 given he's uncontracted and we paid pick 12 for a still contracted Cameron, but each trade is its own entity and the strength of the draft this year will play a factor in how we value it.

I'd probably add to that the fact that we were pretty confident that Mitch Wallis was coming to brisbane as a FA right up until he re-signed with Bulldogs which forced a late scramble for someone to fill that role. Could have contributed to the last minute nature of what happened with Lyons.

I come in peace, one missing element in the Lyons interest got to do with how we traded Beams. It wasn't until the last day or two that we traded Beams, got that extra first rounder to get Neale. In my view Beams exit created that additonal mid void which wasn't there earlier.

EDIT: Looks like other posters have beat me to it.

   Jack Martin has flown to Melbourne for talks on his future this week with Carlton and the Western Bulldogs. He meets with Steve Silvagni and co. tomorrow. Not sure Bombers have the money to strike a trade.

Does it strike anyone weird that North Melbourne just have to make up the difference in Brad Scotts pay?
Does that happen for all coaches moved on?
Do Carlton only have to make up the remaining component after Bolton gets paid by Hawthron?

Think it depends how long they were contracted for. Scott had another year on his contract. Bolton? I'm not sure what his contract was like at Blues.
