Michael who?

"The 205cm, 103kg big man was a standout performer in last weekend's state game against the WAFL, earning the FOS Williams Medal as the SANFL's best player in their victory at Optus Stadium."

SANFL's best ruckman 2019 - picked up by Sydney in mid season draft.

Thanks

It's good that he can beat an uncapped state leaguer but that doesn't cut it for me.

This bloke has taken the piss for 9 years and been uncommitted, returned from off season out of shape and now that his career hangs by a thread he has managed to play more than 10 games he deserves to hang around.

Big no from me.

If he can't beat a mid season rookie pick Ruckmen without pre season, Nicholls might as well ruck against himself.

Wasn’t hopeless Keegan Brooksby an EX-SANFL player of the year too when we got him?

Nah best and fairest for his club, just like Nicholls is the best after Witts. Pick at 42 in the rookie draft. Any pick outside of ND draft is not highly rated.

Apparently is as slow as GHS but can rack up the ball. Sounds like another Jarryd Lyons so we wouldn't be interested.
Correct, why would we want somebody who can 'rack up the ball'! We have so many already in the mid field - and of course this is sarcasm to those who don't comprehend.

Thanks

Thats fine
Just tell me who you are planning to replace him with.

Or you going into a season with Witts as the only ruckman.
Or you planning on playing Wright as the 1st ruck if Witts injured.

I don't mind Nicholls as a rookie pick if nobody pick him up, I get the insurance thing, but backup ruck is like a condom, how many you need for abosulute protection.

If Witts go down, there is no guarantee Nicholls stays injuries free, how many game Nicholls played in 2018 NEAFL season due to injuries.

Some friends tell me thaf the Burgoyne deal is pretty much done and that barely a dime of it will come out of our cap. Going to be very mostly paid by the AFL with ambassador payments and the like.

If it’s going to happen there needs to be no fart arseing about and get this announced ASAP as it may just open the floodgates for the other blokes that are flirting with the idea of playing for us.

Not simple to do given contracts don't until October. Can't announce it until it actually happens.

I'm sure the club will be telling player managers though.

Apparently he is a train wreck in terms of defensive transition running ala Brodie

As he is a Sandringham boy I would suspect he could be involved in the Jack Steven trade.

Putting Nicholls many shortcomings aside (which he has many) in terms of list management he is the same age as Witts so when Witts is done in 4/5 years so will Nicholls.

Given Nicholls low upside why not draft a kid like Luke Jackson at the end of the 1st Rd who could develop as a 2nd ruck who win some ball around the ground or play key position.

If we get a kid to develop and they are not ready over the next 2 years you could play 2MP in that role.

Yeah fair enough if we get Jackson.
I reckon he is a perfect target for our Lions 1st rounder. Not sure if he lasts that long.
Definitely up for that.

Luke Jackson probably develops as a ruck/forward who can play as an extra inside mid when the ball hits the ground.

I’d love him with the Lions first or second pick.

Where are the lions first 2 picks currently sitting?
I thought talk of Jackson being an end of first round type talent?

That's really positive news. I heard Mitch Cleary reporting he was on the Gold Coast this week looking at schools for his children to attend. Given our history of sending academy kids to All Saints Anglican School, I figure his children will probably end up there. I can only assume Silk wants his children to attend an elitist private school and we have a good relationship with All Saints. I'm sure a nice deal can be struck there with the school and it would mostly likely mean Burgoyne will stay multiple years with us as a coach because he won't want to pull his oldest child out of school once he's started year 10/11.

It also looks like we're almost certain to land Brandon Ellis. Both he and Burgoyne are free agents and won't cost us a thing so that's a pretty big win for us. Beyond that, we need to figure out if it's worth engaging in a trade with the Crows to land Betts and/or Greenwood.

he is rising up the boards lately but he will be like Tim English and Grundy and slide down to late first round/early second

The issue with drafting a young ruck early is that it usually won't pay early dividends compared to a midfielder.

If we end up with the 2 kids at the start of the draft and given our timeframe for success it could be worth the investment of draft capital.
