List Mgmt. 2019 Draft/Trade/FA Thread - Final Wrap

Just wondering that if the Lions having a good season will help with a PP?
If the Lions had finished 11th and we ended up with pick 8 this year I kinda think that hurts the PP case.

The media seem to go mad for top 10 picks and are a lot less fussed about late 1st rounders.
If we go to the AFL with picks 1 and 8 and ask for pick 2 as well? Fury X 10.

So I will take 1, 2, and 15 and celebrate the great season the Lions had. Thanks for the PP help boys.

don't really matter, nobody intend to apply for Priority pick before the season start. You can celebrate or joined and support the lion if you want to.

Now offer a deal to geelong with it for Selwood
Robo I don't think he will come, just go to the state league and pick a few utility, hopefully out of 4-5, two are capable of playing AFL.

31 years old offer him 4 years deal if Ellis want 750 pay him 850

Geelong probably only give him 1 or 2 more years maybe 650/700

Club Probably only want players that cost 500 who are nice guys off the field and good for neafl though

Club should be turning over rocks on players at top clubs that could be available depending on what other clubs are likely to do during trade period.

E.g. if Cats are going after Jack Steven and another mid, chances are you could shake loose a Menegola or a Cockatoo who have taken unders to stay who may no longer be an automatic best 22.

Blakely may be gettable as there seems to be an issue with him staying at Freo apparently due to off-field issues. As a keen surfer and Weller's mate might be a better alternative. If Freo are having to pushing him out the door and he nominates us I would give up a pick in the 20s or if we ended up with pick 8 from Blues downgrade that for a pick in the late teens or early 20s (Freo have an academy player Liam Henry rated 10-20 so to get another pick ahead of that would appeal to them).

If the Cats fall short again this year, there's no way he'll leave with their premiership window open.

Unless you try you never know.. if you make an offer he can’t refuse then he might

keep hearing we need a Luke hodge type and he is from the same mould..
strong on field leader/organiser, demands high standards, finals experience, premiership player

Most people seem to be happy with keep getting draft picks and fringe players though

No harm in asking the question - when he laughs in our face immediately we won't have wasted much time.

One player club legends that have high character usually won't be the players who will leave for a quick bucks (notice I said high character so this excludes GAJ). By staying a one club player of his status he will make millions in retirement with high powered club coterie people wanting to fill his pockets with cash on no brainer property deals just so they can have the accessibility to such an exhulted figure in the Geelong community.

Absolutely. Never die wondering.

No harm trying, but you still need to identify talent if he don't want to come. No more drafting GC academy players just because GCS sold the farm out ( multiple second and third Rd)

Identify talent and getting top draft picks every year then they’re going to leave anyway in 4 or 5 years because all you have to offer them is reserve players from other teams and the next lot of talented draft picks you’re going to get in the next years draft while watching the others walk out..
we all got excited over Bowes Ainsworth fiorini brodie Martin ah Chee lukosious rankine now Rowell and Anderson when in reality they’re probably just going to leave like their predecessors if something doesn’t change

instead of bundling up picks for future picks just bundle up and pay overs for players
I don’t mind giving up pick 2 for Weller but need more than one player could’ve said pick 2 and future first round for Neale and Weller

Apart from Saad and Holman, I don't see any mature age players that are good in GCS. Most of them after pick 40+ and from GCS academy.

Your academy intake for the next two years 2019/20 is the best yet . I can see at least four players in that list that could make it

It take time Budarick and Davies will be on senior list, other can stay on rookie B list for maximum 3 years and take their time to develop. If they exceed expectation can always upgrade them later. Once you are on senior list the club need to delist them and run the risk of other club getting them through ND draft and rookie draft. , eg Nutting and Crossley. Look at GWS and Sydney former academy players NEAFL rising star last year and this year. Maguire and baker

According to Tom Browne we are leading the race for Betts with a more attractive offer. He was right about Burgoyne will he be right about this?

I know some people will disagree with me on this but I think we have to go all in on this one and give Eddie what he wants to move here. We just can't afford to mess another one up. Get him in and let his leadership/experience shine a light on our young list. He's currently 32 years old so it's really not that bad in terms of the age bracket like it was with Burgoyne.

'Whatever he wants' is a big call for a bloke who is more than likely cooked and will give limited on-field return.

Burgoyne despite his age was showing he had more in the tank by end of the year than Betts.

The ambassadorial money and our ability to pay 100% of his $500k salary should be enough. Anything over that and he is taking the piss.

I think we have to get Greenwood and CEY not sure we should do Ellis, we will have to pay the most for
the longest to Greenwood but he is something we don't have a tough, big midfielder who can mark and kick goals.

We probably can get an older Hawk as well and or a mature Carlton player we want or a pick from them we can swap for a mature player from another club, Betts wife wants to go back to her friends in Melbourne apparently, its a long way down to earth after missing Burgoyne and probably Betts

Maybe Isaac Smith is a possibility

Hawks policy has been to only offer 1 year extensions for players over 30 and Smith is been looking for 3 years, so certainly worth the inquiry. Still playing very good football, and has been remarkably durable, possibly due to the late start of his AFL career. That trick is to convince him to come to the Suns. Hawthorn don't want to lose him, but Smith is entitled to try and set himself up for life after football.

Perhaps Suns should be asking the AFL for "ambassadorial" assistance for marquee players similar to the deal that persuaded Coniglio to stay.

As well as being that quality outside player every team needs he seems to have a really good character that people want to get around and get the guys up and being positive, with a bit of swagger, without being the warrior Hodge was or the combative type Sam Mitchell was.

no doubt he'll get what he wants from Hawthorn by leveraging desperate offers from us

We didn't alter our offer for Burgoyne, who re-signed for one year. We would not be matching a 3 year contract for Smith. The question is whether Gold Coast can convince him to move North.

The time spend on convincing players to come better spend on spotting the right mature age players in the state league, Tom stewart, mihochek, tim Kelly, Liam Ryan, Luke Ryan, Callum Wilkins and how to manage injuries.
