Bit out there, and I'm aware of his recent injury profile and age....Lynden Dunn any shot for a year or two? Aggressive defender with experience.

i know it's been mentioned previously, but it's pretty funny seeing how cats fans are blowing up about kelly wanting to go home for family reasons, when they were so vehemently in favour of the idea with ablett just a couple years ago.
Not to mention Dangerfield. They also both chose the club they wanted to play at, rather than just any club in their preferred state. Much like Tim Kelly is doing now.

N

nah he is shot I reckon, will fall off a cliff

Pretty much a free hit at a low coin. Could do one year with a games trigger. If he wasn’t motivated to get back to the afl he would’ve retired by now.

Just trying to throw a new name in since the past 30 pages seem to recycle the same names. Don’t get me wrong BCrouch would be a much better get, but we need maturity down back.

Some on this board are questioning Ellis's ability, and rightly so, and whether he would suit us. The stat I quite like is that he has played 167 games in 8 seasons....that is not quite 21 games each season, as well as his age and experience. In actual fact his lowest number of games in any season was 18. If we can get 100 games out of Brandon in his 5 yrs with us, I would consider that a win, especially with our past injury record.
He has actually player 176 games ;)
He is extremely durable and rarely injured or reported , He has just turned 26 in august and is the type of player that could play until 32/33 with his pace and tank so you could get 7 years from him and i would be 99% sure he will play 100 games but we as richmond supporters hope he gets to 99 :p

100%

Rather Ellis over Martin and we’re not using a pick to get him

We were discussing this with a mate just yesterday and compared their stats and you guys look like getting an upgrade on Martin going by stats and probably for $200k less as well as banking a draft pick what ever that may be.

We also discussed another thing that my mate said (carlton supporter and not 1 eyed) What he said was very interesting and made alot of common sens
He said if Brandon Ellis was going to Gold Coast for $450k x 5 year deal every body would be saying what a great get and the suns have done well to get such a player to come there, He is a 2 time premiership player thats been selected every week for the premiers since being drafted and maintained a very high level

What he said next was the thing that made me think about posting this here , In a 45 man team with $13 million cap that needs experienced quality player and cant convince them to move is $150k a year such a big deal ? specially when you get him without a pick

Well said The Gun.

If anyone thinks the suns can get a dual premiership 26 year old up here without paying a little overs they are kidding themselves.

It’s exactly the right move, isn’t ridiculously overs and no cost of a draft pick. Well done I say. Need a couple more to improve significantly Greenwood probably happens for a pick in the 30s or 40s and I’m sure they are sniffing around for a couple more.

If we get 4 mature players in that would be best 22 I would call that a win for the period.

Ellis
Greenwood (very likely)
???
???

Our starting 22 automatically improves with the only outgoings being Martin and Ah Chee.

Gold Coast CEO Mark Evans details why the Suns won’t repeat the failures of the past

“Retention of players still remains the key to unlocking our future success and at the start of the year we nominated 14 players that had contract expiries in 2019 or 2020 that we thought we had some priority to try and re-sign,” Evans said.

“Pleasingly, we have signed 10 of those already.

“It leaves a few out at the end of next year and that becomes the key focus for next year.

So who are those 4 prioriy players remaining to be re-signed?
Lukosius, King, Fiorini and Collins?

Lukosius, King, Fiorini and Collins?

Three of those are dicy, will depend on next years success Collins will resign regardless

Looking at our retention issues this year compared to rest of competition.
Martin - no doubt we would like to keep.
Ah Chee - interesting case. It looks like we were not willing to offer contract length, money Lions did. Result of handling TPP a new way? :)

Now some other teams potentially struggling to keep players. I am sure more surprises to come. Some nice targets there already for Melbourne media :)
Freo - Langdon, B Hill
Cats - Kelly
Swans - Jones, Papley
Essendon - Daniher, Fantasia
Port - Howard
St Kilda - Stevens, Bruce - need a pick for other trades
Pies - Ellis
GWS - Tomlinson - result of TPP pressure
Crows - wrong decision in my opinion to let go Greenwood and Keath, ?B. Crouch
Lions - some depth probably on the way out - Taylor, Robertson, Cutler

A lot of the boys were down at end of the year which is to be expected getting smashed weekly.
They are extremely excited about Greewood Ellis 2 x PP + more. Excitement rating 9/10.
SO I'M TOLD
The 20 years curse is about to expire at the end of the this year according to Bods. Limit injuries, get early wins and the team will improve. With wins comes confidence. I watch every Lions game. In their first 5-6 game they did not play great but then with more wins even average players looked like stars. Damn I wish we have Lions no-existing injury list.
