Also with Martin I would take a lower draft pick in return but make Carlton take 1 or 2 of the worst contracted suns players as steak knives to free up the list

Martin, Ahchee , Nichols out . Ellis , Greenwood and Smith in is still not a great improve in talent. To get anything out of the trade period I would offer the two late first round picks for B Crouch

Nicholls only played neafl, Martin didn't give a crap and ah chee was injured half the time so really its a huge improvement. I loved Nicholls and I wish he played longer but in my opinion all Ah Chee and Martin did was chew up money so now we've got three good ready made players

Exactly and they are exactly the types we need big bodied hard runners not skinny flankers.
You chuck in Rowell Anderson and don't forget Rankine who is basically a new No 2 pick the upside in King Luko Bowes Fiorini Brodie Ainsworth etc. Big keys Thompson and Collins returning to defence and a good injury run and anything is possible IMO.

On exposed form you take Ellis and Greenwood over Martin and Ah Chee all day IMO. Our list has improved from before the trade period.

Couldn’t agree more about the list improving. IMO Martin is the sort of player that makes an A grade side A+, and offers minimal to our developing C grade side. Ellis will push his guts out up and down the wing. Ah Chee has massive potential but just couldn’t get it together. Greenwood will bring the big body we need around the ball. Smith is a local and I assume coming up for peanuts, though it does speak for the changes around the club if he is willing to come back.

If the bombers got 5 & 9 for joey, would u consider 5&9, heppell & hooker for 1 & 2?

Hooker is on his last legs - a year or two left
Heppell has also been injured hasn't he? Foot injury? In an older guy not great news. Is a solid a-/b+ grade player - in the realm of crouch. Obviously good leader.

I'd say Hooker is worth a 3rd rounder and Heppell probably a mid first at best
Don't think thats enough to downgrade from best friend / junior stars to pick 5-9 which might be so-so players.

There is no rule about it. AFL can do whatever they want.

Cameron funny answer to question if Ben is payed ambassador money, something like:

"You have to ask his agent. I don't know. Suns negotiate only salary which is part of TPP. Agent can ask AFL for ambassador money"

"I assume some Suns players receive ambassador money" (like he got no idea).

I did also pose this on the bombers thread and they also thought they would be getting ripped off,
I personally think it would be win/win you still get two top 10 picks and the leadership of heppell and hooker as an experienced key position to take the pressure off the young kpp you have

Heppell and Hooker are hardly what I’d call A Grade leaders. IMO we’ve already got two better leaders in Dave Swallow and Wittsy.

I reckon thats enough talent to really get us in the conversation the next few years.

We can pre select all three as academy selections however that’s 3 list spots gone. I suggest just Budarick as Ace and Rosas are similar players and we have Rankine, Ainsworth, McPherson and Holman to play that role

I did not see any details about this part of AFL assistance. I suspect people just assume.

the ability to pre-sign academy players without bidding and an increased rookie list up to 10 players.

It does not say that pre-signed academy players have to be put on the senior list.

The only worry would be that Brad in would probably mean less opportunity for Brodie, Bowes, Fiorini in the middle especially when I expect Greenwood to start in the middle too. But yes we need as much improvement as possible next year.

That’s an article outlining the package but it doesn’t make it clear. I would assume it’s a similar arrangement to normal process we just don’t have to match the offer in picks. Budarick would be pissed if he has to take a rookie contract receiving less than if he was drafted to the main list

Talent, no. Effort, desire, experience, the will to improve the club...vastly different.

That would be fine because we could always match. We would have to keep a list spot in that case though
