This is my opinion of it as well FWIW. I hope this doesn't have negative flow through the group and the AFL, but who knows.

If we can convince Jack to re-sign for one year, does he become a restricted free agent? If he does then it's probably worth trying to make it happen knowing we have the security of a compensation pick coming back our way this time next year should he choose to leave.
It looks like most of players couldn't give 2 ****s about him after being probably the only bloke not to buy in last year and playing with no effort or heart.
If you were ever going to make a stand and not have to worry about hurting the player group this is the perfect case.

If we tabled a contract to him prior to the trade period and it's still on the table, then he has til the 31st Oct to sign it and he stays at the Suns.
Or he nominates for the National Draft and takes his chances as to where he goes.
Or he nominates for the PSD and same scenario.
Or he tries to re-negotiate another contract with the Suns.

Further to that we should have plenty of cap room for next year (before extensions for King & co kick in) so we can match almost any deal. Don't know if Jack will like the idea of going to the PSD knowing the place he doesn't want be at can have him under contract for 3-4 years.

Exactly. No way I want him back. He was borderline embarrasing in the second half of the season. So we lost pick 30 or something. Who cares. We got plenty. It's a statement to other teams - don't f* with us. Pay fair price.

Extremely pleased we stuck fat and didnt give into bigger clubs like we would have a few years ago. Even if he still leaves I see this as a big win.

You think Melbourne will not be interested? We do have option to pick him up in PSD. Or will he last until pick 9 in ND? Martin is probably piss off with Carlton right now. Our offer was very fair. What Carlton offered is a joke. No guarantee at all he will end up with Carlton.
