Hope that soon we can see an Adelaide player feature on this list for players drafted 2012 onwards.

There will be massive meltdowns in the AFL cave in and hand them a compo pick.
They don't deserve one.. they burn pick 2 the other year on a player like Weller.. they have had their chance to bring in players. if they get it means we miss out on both Rowell or Anderson. I hope the AFC are kicking up a stink about this..

No chance Carlton get one after the past few weeks.

GC on the other hand are absolute certainties to get something.

Of course Gold Coast will. This is a club who has had 25 first round picks and haven't even been in the league 10 years. Just keep on getting hand outs and still on bottom as players don't want to be there.

Don’t think they will get one, Paul Roos has made a point and the AFL do listen. They will give them unlimited access to all mature players not drafted previously.

More young players won’t help, they may give them access to uncontracted players as well to help.
The reality is gc don’t have money to develop young players like Melbourne of 7 years ago. GC stupidly went for another untried coach instead of a Roos to help set them up. The sad thing is I believe the AFL will shaft any club that tries to poach their best players just as we want some.

Are there any player highlights from the carnival so that I can create my 'informed' decision about who we should and shouldn't draft?

Cheeses aged crust! What a bull poop idea.

But maybe there could be a bright side if this were to eventuate. If not to us, Rowell & Ando going to the black hole that is GC might not be a bad thing (though they might well end up back at a big Vic club eventually). There's probably still a strong chance we would get pick #3 or worse in any case.

Also what if there was a player aside from RowAndo that Hamish can feel it in his bones would be better for us in the long run - ie Hamish Special - that if we had pick #2 he/we'd be less willing to go out on a limb to pick but stick with the generally safe choice of Ando?

Looking back at past drafts, how often has pick #1 & #2 ended up as the clear cut best of the class? (even if this year it might just turn out that way)

alternatively, if GC squeal and the AFL cave in and give them a priority pick before ours, we should go after Lukosius at 100 miles per hour - offer him the world to come home so that he tell them he wants out and will not sign a contract extension no matter what..Then if a trade happens for pick 3 so be it - at least we would have got a player we coveted and probably give up pick 2 for anyway

Theres no way the AFL can gift the Gold Coast suns another pick at the top of the draft. Firstly it compromises future years draft picks because what the point in doing this if the afl then pick and choose what they do with the draft order.

Secondly if gc get this extra pick then carlton and stkilda should go straight to the afl and say wheres our priority pick.

Gold coast badly need good experienced players around the inexperienced young players to help. How they do it is a good question?

Ive said for years when players are drafted there contracts should be longer. For example if you are a first round draft pick you have to sign a five year contract, second round pick maybe 4 years. If the club wishes to trade or delist you then they should have the right during that period. The clubs invest so much into these first round picks and to lose them after a couple years with pathetic compensation is a joke.

Oh, I'm sure they are. I expect to see similarly robust objections from our club as we saw over the AFL's decision to sell the grand final to the MCG for the rest of our lives.

There's no point giving GC and Carlton priority picks. They've both had endless early draft picks and are still sh*t. Carlton, in particular, would have a hard time making a case for it given that they've actually traded out their own first round pick this year.

What about this for an idea - allow them an increase in the football department soft cap for a few years. This might allow them to attract better coaches and development staff to help them make the most of the early picks they've already had without compromising the draft.
