I said last week that I thought we'd just sit back and let the draft unfold and would take the kids we rated the highest when our picks rolled around and I don't see that changing. The only thing I can see happening is us offering up our 2020 R1 pick to try and get a pick before our 3 straight picks in the 40s. 5 picks inside the top 45 for the reigning premiers will be annoying to those clubs who have sold the farm to load up on picks.

What Cal Twoomey is putting up might be true or BS, Either way, its not a bad move for RFC because if Sam Philp does really take off, especially being a RFC supporter, RFC might be able to nab him off CFC later

What is annoying me now is I talked up Williams amongst other left footers to suit RFC for second rounder and now Twoomey is saying Williams could be a bolter

So did Kelly and he did go but at pick #21 his talent is worth the risk and there will be no guarantee's he can get there and the perth clubs will pay

I think Richmond made a huge mistake with the way they took their selection and not because of who they selected but the way they went about it.
Personally if i was in charge of Richmond i would have bid on Mead and made port accountable for being cocky enough to trade back 2 spots and give pick #20 to carlton.

This would have forced Port to use pick #22 on mead and if they passed i would have easily been happy with Mead at #21 and dont believe there is much difference in Dow/Mead quality

Ideally, they should be thinking like you, embracing the CFC manoeuvres, even forecast them as potentials and have strategies to mitigate any risks and weaken opponents like bidding on Mead. See why did we not bid on Macguiness to get Hawks to cough up and give us time to think. Remember, the CFC bid on Green and Henry that gave them time t implement and think about trades. Frankly, I think its all to convenient CFC managed to do what they did against RFC including Port getting Mitch as well as compo for Ellis. Other clubs do not like RFC getting too strong from Stack and Pickett last year not does the AFL, they like clubs successes turing over to foster interest and keep their revenue projections turning over linked to their pay packets. Included Ellis compo I think other clubs care of AFL ganged up against RFC as a tall poppy syndrome and trying to bring us back down!! The other thing with trading is it takes two to tango and collusion is a possibility, its one way trading allows AFL have more control through nefarious activity. Remember Geelong should have won at least 5 premierships in a row but did not. The AFL are glad about that and they prefer clubs going turn about, even the great Hawks teams in the late eighties lost here and there so as not to seem to dominant. A lot of this can be treated as conspiracy crap but a number of times CFC in the commentary appear overly focussed on what RFC was doing whether right or wrong in regard to Sam Philps and others. There is a case we are being watched

You can say that about all the mids, they go well against U18's, hence the big mids dominating and hence recruiters taking that into consideration and not many being selected. Jack Graham is a great example. Recruiters look at AFL traits and how that will transition into the future. Mids with great lateral movement and speed are gold, Cotchin is one, Robert Harvey the best example.

Jack Ross's are critical to making clubs effective and team orientated and successful, something the likes of GWS still need to understand

Not sure how the big mid concept applies because he was short. He just showed he was a competitor at the highest levels

Larke medalist but drafted in the 50's because he wasn't seen as having much of an upside. Short, but built like Tarzan.
Great competitor, but that is what he is mainly known for. So whilst he is a good player, he will never be more than that and as much as I appreciate how hard he works, he is certainly not in our top 15 players, which you'd hope a first round pick to be.

just because someone supported a team when they were younger, doesn’t mean they’re a certainty to be traded that team.
