2019 Draft

Same. He's grown on me. Our phantom draft also showed that Rivers, Stephens etc just may not get to our pick.
Rivers/Stephens/Day or Sharp i'd be content with.

Class of 2019: Flag skipper keen to prove he's no flash in the pan

It's why the likes of Richmond, Gold Coast, Port Adelaide and Geelong have all been linked to Bianco in the first 20 picks on draft night. For now, Bianco will patiently wait. Lazy Moe's might have taught him that skill.

"There's not much more I can do now," he said. "It's been a very long road and I'm really looking forward to what's next."

Another Croatian at Tigerland? I don't see why we should deviate from what works.

Welcome to Richmond Trent!

Based on the response from Richmond FC, looks likely we will select 5 or 6 players in the ND, As it stands we have picks 19, 38,39, 41, 56 and 77
We may have that many picks available, but I can't see us actually using any more than 3 or 4 at the absolute most.
We'll have a huge issue with having no room to elevate our rookies at the end of 2020 if we fill up our list with 6 picks on 2 year contracts

The Richmond board phantom also probably has posters who have looked more closely at players that are a good fit for Richmond, so have some bias towards those players to take them early.

He is a only 178 cm (5.8 ft), not a midfield Goliath!
I'll never understand why people think you need to be tall to be a great midfielder. Just because Fyfe and Cripps are tall doesn't mean anything, they're the exception to the rule, not the rule.

I guess people seem to forget how instrumental Prestia and Lambert were in our premiership years.

Garry Ablett Jr went ok too (not suggesting he'll be as good as him)

There's obviously an enormous list but I really cbf listing them all.

The average height of an AFL player is increasing (Goddard, Hodge, Dusty, Josh Kelly); using a 1st rounder on 178 cm midfielder?

I've got no problem with it as long as they can play.

Heights are given way too much emphasis these days.

I'll take the short mid who can play over the taller mid who shows potential. The laws of probability indicate the taller kid is more likely to be David Myers than Nat Fyfe.

Would be a good outcome to trade up for Freo's pick 22 with pick 38 + 39 which will give Freo and extra 66 points

That would give us picks 19,22, 40 , 56 and elevate Baker as the 38th player.

I agree, though I'd probably offer 38, 39 & 56 for 22 & a 2020 3rd round pick
Then we just take 3 players in the draft and bank a little bit more currency for next year

Even better as we then could elevate Stack as well and keep the senior list to 38 player.

38 is smart. Saves us 250k in salary cap space for doing nothing and gives us a spot to take a player in the supplementary draft if we want.

Do not want

" since he fell in love with Collingwood at a young age. He trained there earlier this year "

2020 3rd rounder could possibly become pick #68 with all the academy picks, There could be very little points value attached to that

Taking 3 picks & elevating Stack and Baker doesn't save us money in fact it probably costs us the same if not more given both of them would be on more than a first year kid would be on.

Will Day: The Tigers can afford to pick someone who needs a bit of development, and Will Day is exactly that. A great user of the ball, he’s tall but very skinny. Could be elite if he builds up his size..... remind you a bit of Connor Menadue.
Very few skinny half backs make the grade at the top level these days, the game it just too contested and one on one strength especially at half back/wing is so important. Half forwards who put their nose over it like Dan Rioli not such a problem. So no skinny half backs please. Trent Rivers if available, yes please.

or could end up higher given that teams will be using multiple 2nd and 3rd picks to pay for players.

The more time spent reading through draft profiles the more comfortable I am that should we take 5 picks in the draft, which I believe we will be doing, we'll find ourselves with 5 quality kids who will add to the depth at Richmond.

No more Menadue types, spend 5 years on the list and achieve nothing.
Waiting 5 years for a midfielder to have impact is crazy.

We've currently got kids on our list that are going to take around that amount of time before they start to have a consistent senior impact, with the way our senior players are performing. Any kid who gets drafted this year is going to have to be quite special to be able to come in and have an immediate impact.

Probably runs a bit deeper than a fat v skinny debate when you're investing a minimum of $250,000 in these kids and looking to draft them for a 12 year period. TOTALLY different players in my view with the only comparison is that they've both played back in recent years (Gould played forward in juniors and Day inside mid).

BTW Day played Champs at 187cm / 70kg and tested at the combine at 189cm / 76kg. So at that rate he'll be 82kgs by opening round.
I agree , the kids 106kg bulk at such a young age is a worry to me , best of luck to him but I’d be going the kid with agility first
