2019 Draft

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Just wanted to clear up something regarding the list for 2020.

When the club lodged the list for 2020 back on October 31 we had to lodge retained rookies for 2020 as well. What that means is those players listed on the rookie list are rookies for 2020. We can't then elevate them to the senior list after the draft. With the new rookie rules they can be selected for the senior side even if we don't have a LTI.

That means that we are entering the draft with 6 live picks and will most likely take 5 picks in the draft, saving 1 for a rookie pick or SSP/mid season draft and we'll also have a Cat B rookie still.

We hear it every year this draft isn't strong but i think theirs heaps of talent right up to the 40's
If we are looking for a medium-sized defender then Day or Rivers are the most likely, we can't go wrong with either.
I'm a rap for Cooper Stephens good running ability and hard at it for our first pic.

Is there any way he could slide to late 30's cause i think the club has the mindset of a running defender for pic 19

Can you imagine if we nabbed one of Day or Rivers then Stephens then Ralphsmith.
For our 4th pic, a tall forward either Riccardi or Georgiades would be a great get to compliment CCJ, Balta, Chol etc
Well I'm leaning to Georgiades but not sure if he lasts to pick 41

draft central have not released its 1-20 rankings yet. One would assume it has Jackson, McAnsey, Worrell as the three best bigs. Maybe Nyoun?

Probably moved Gould into top 20.

Where's Riccardi?

I think we need talls personally. Rance and Jack ageing. Maybe CCJ could play forward but nothing else other than Lynch. Grimes and Astbury have years in them but otherwise not a lot of tall depth down back.

I'd want any or all of Gould, Riccardi and Jeka with our picks, and a couple of inside mids.

Stephens probably doesn’t even make it to our first pick so for sure doesn’t make it to 38. Will actually be pretty interesting who’s still on the board at our first pick.

KPF are bloody hard to find, and as stated in Konrads book they mostly come very early in the draft. We won’t have a high pick for awhile so our best bet is to target one in FA/trade.

As for KPD I don’t believe it’s that dire, Balta and garthwaite have another 1-2 years of development before Rance moves on. Astbury, Grimes, Broad and Flossy will be around to guide them too for awhile. We also have access to Baxter next year who is CHB and has talent, and the club will already be developing him for a KPD post.

We can easy pick up another with our 3 middle picks as well.

I reckon he'll be on the board at pick 19 but yeah wishful thinking for our 2nd pick (that was more just hoping he slides)
He's a Geelong Falcons boy and the Cats have two picks in the teens before us. After what happened with them letting Worpel slip through their fingers I doubt Stephens will get past their picks. Will be very interesting to see if they take him.

I really have to get off the Bigfooty/Draft addiction and spending way too much time here as im starting to have dreams about the draft FMD

My dream last night

* Richmond traded picks #38+#56 to Hawks for #30
* #19 Cooper Stephens
* #30 Sam De Koning
* #39 Mitchell Georgiades
* #41 Hugo Ralphsmith

I should really stop drinking the Vodka/RedBull prior to bed

Swap De Koning for Kossie Pickett and Ralphsmith for Hilder and I'd be happy

yeah good question. I was thinking the same thing. I am assuming Riccardi is not included because he is an overage player in the VFL not the u18s

Let me go back to sleep and see how i go ..................

I need a bottle of grey goose , shall i put that on your tab ?
Haha.....bit of a joke about my tab (don't have one) Staff always say to newbies "put it on his tab" Can take them quite a while to realize that I don't have one.

Don't have the Goose here, use a local Oz product 'Bondi Blue' 5 times filtered on par with the Goose quality but at a Smirnoff price.

Smirnoff is used as nail polish and paint remover , tried the BB but still rather kill the goose

We squeeze two years out of Rance we will have been doing well i reckon... 👍

This is who i think WILL BE A DECENT CHANCE TO BE AVAILABLE at our picks, that i sort of like. Its not overly informed but i have followed the WA boys a little bit.
I also try to address list needs as i see them.

19 in order.
Cooper Stevens 188/83 mid VIC. What ive seen i really like and as usual with me a bigger bodied mid. Despite injury early on and missing most of the season i think he could be best mid left available .Imo we have room for three genuine mid spots on the list so fits a need. Powerful great size decent ball use and a good mover.

I do like east freo's
Trent Rivers 188. hes a defender but can also play midfield and win a bit of contested ball.Im hoping one of these two get to our first pick

38

Sam Philip 187 . Hard at it mid who brings both pace and a big tank .Would be a good get here as he would help us out with clearances.

39

Mitch Georgiades 191 Tall /fwd This pick is a stretch i dont think he will get past pick 25. We need a tall fwd on the list.

41

Trey Ruscoe 190 Utility versatile hard at it and can play either end or mid and a very nice size.

Fraser Phillips 187 MED/FWD. Seems he may be the medium fwd left who has the most upside.I think the list clearly is wanting for a medium sized fwd with x factor.

56 dyson Hilder 196 KPD To me hes our Astbury replacement. Lovely height and size and looks like he will be capable of playing on the bigger fwds going around.Looks to be very good one v one. Atall defender around pick 41 - 56 if available makes sense to me as im not over confident about Garthwaite and Miller making it.

75 Luke Partington 181cm mid, Ticks all the boxes for me as far as a mature recruit goes.Ready to go mid and have no problems useing such a late pick on him.

77 Ben Sokal 186cm medium fwd who topped the wafl for goals this yr. he also ticks most of the boxes for a mature recruit and actually fills a gaping list hole as we dont have one genuine med fwd on the list apart from a mid or two who rotate thru there.

Will reiterate it is a not very informed opinion Mainly just looking at snippets and looking at list needs and trying to guess who will be available where.

Would you be happy drafting a non KPP defender with the first pick?

there is a theory draft the best mids and put the ones that develop less on the flanks
I actually have two big mids with my first two picks and i reckon Rivers has shown he can play inside mid very well already. its just that hes played a lot across h/b.In some ways Rivers is a better fit than Stevens as we only have Vlastuin on the list who is a Medium defender well Markov as well i suppose.

Day for me is just too skinny i tend to stay clear of the rakes especially with early picks. He is highly rated by a lot of people and there is a lot of talk about his upside but players like menadue and Markov keep coming to mind and if he cannot adequately bulk up then i think he will struggle.
