2019 Draft

Afl website mentions Charlie Comben as a possible need. With heavy investment into Lynch there is no way we need someone of that type especially when we have Balta, Chol and others as well which also means we do not need a ruck prospect yet adding in Nank and Soldo

Yeah I wouldn't draft a KPF either. I know Riewoldt is on the wrong side of 30 but he's been fairly durable during his career, and IMO a KPF in the later rounds would probably be stashed in the VFL, only to be wasted and eventually either be delisted or look for options elsewhere. Richmond has a lot of money and spots tied up in KPFs, investing more just seems like an opportunity cost.

i think people are too focused on KPF / KFD

its not that black and white, we still dont know if Balta, Chol, Miller are key forwards or defenders

need another tall or two to round out the list IMO

We do not want fill ins.

We can always rookie a fill in, or even trade for a fill in, get a fill in at the back of their careers.

You want to be drafting for a player that can at least command a role head to head and if he can add to the team even better let alone star potential

I think we currently only have one rookie spot open?

Not sure. If Gould, McAnsty, Worrell are still around id be having a long hard look, might be best available too

Gawthwaite, Balta, Miller, Chol are pretty questionable still at this stage unfortunate, rumors CCJ isnt too happy also

to get a pick swap of future 4ths apparently
Pick 65 -70 lol

They do breed them on that board

we have 75+77 which we wont even use this year and next year the list will be even tighter

But im happy to do them a favour , Lets swap 1st rounders and throw in pick #41 as the sweetener

I forgot about CCJ,

There is another reason we would not get another ruck

So I thought I'd have a crack at a a 3 round Phantom draft based on a combination of best available in the first round and then list needs after the first round. Tried to predict when bids would come on Henry Maguinness & Mead. Was not an easy task and let me just say that I'm not a draft watcher by any means but I do spend quite a bit of time reading up on as many kids as I can from many different sources so I can form a broad view of the kids as possible. Happy to share to generate a bit of discussion prior to the draft on Wednesday.

Read the post again, and do the maths on your draft hand. You may need to take your shoes and socks off first though..
we could target p38 for 51 and a measly future 4th swap.

Whats there to read !! Its a stupid suggestion that make no sense at all

Going down from 38 to 51 for a 4th round swap of picks that we wont use

You better put your shoes and socks back on to run away quickly before people that are not as polite as me kick your ass out of here

Typical StKilda supporter

Stephens looks good with his hands in the contest but this was my concern; almost every kick highlight is cut off before it reaches its target... Makes me think he missing his target regularly so he's removed from the videos.

I Have been on this kid a while now and really like what he brings to the team , He is what we need going foward

Exactly.

We are not going down trade so dream on. Possibly might trade one of the second round picks for a future second, but Saints don't have one now after Freo r*ped you on the Hill trade.
That's totally incorrect. The Hill trade was a fully consensual insertion of a traffic cone, and Saints had a full week to stretch out beforehand.
Our list manager will sit again one day. He says he enjoys standing for the moment anyway..

On other matters, all things being equal your pick 38 and our pick 51 will be about 41 and 47 after bidding, so it's not much of a stretch to see a trade happening with one of your 3 consecutive picks.

Found this on the St Kilda draft thread.

Just a reminder that for every fiendish plan we have to relieve another club of an earlier pick, other supporters are likewise scheming to do the same to us, with the saints seemingly targeting us more than most. This was one of their more optimistic ones. Not sure why but it kind of made me laugh. :D
Tell him 'he's dreamin'

You're the Saints version of Mr Magic aren't you?

Why would Richmond trade down from 41 to 47 to improve a 2020 R4 pick 17 spots?

Ideally we would want to use 3 picks so we can elevate rookies (Baker / Stack), so would be looking to trade up if possible and not for picks lower in the draft.

does it matter?

i think they new rules are you can play rookies whenever you want
More flexibility in list management. Bringing 5 or 6 players in on 2 year contracts would make it much harder next year compared to using 3 senior list spots and picking 3 rookies. We also need to elevate DES and Baker in 2020 or would have to re-rookie them and they could be picked by another club in that case.

Our game plan requires elite levels of gut run and defensive pressure which again makes me think we’ll look hard at Rantall who smashed the combine. Huge upside there imo
The knock re his disposal by foot probably has a fair bit to do with the fact he played so much junior basketball. Get him into an AFL system and that can be improved.
Making a late charge I reckon to be the first name we call out

If Lynch goes down we play a different way and get ready for his return, we cannot replace Lynch with a cheap foil just like we cannot replace Dusty. This is why its smart for us to manage Lynch as a key lynch pin to the team no pun intended. If we get Charlie Comben that means we over paid for Lynch because its saying we could have got a lessor type to play a similar role anticipating to still get the chocolates and is also saying Balta and Chol along with others belong on the scrap heap. The only way one would consider a ruck is if a Grundy type, supposedly Jackson has similarities slides to 19 or our first.

If Lynch goes down (heaven forbid, touch wood, etc.)

i doubt richmond change the whole system

its not 2017 any more, they will bring in another tall; Balta / CCJ / new player

imo

Not necessarily. Depends if they stand up. Might just play Dusty, JR, smalls and see what happens while Lynch comes back.

Might even bring in CCJ and drop one of the other rucks

Why would Richmond trade down from 41 to 47 to improve a 2020 R4 pick 17 spots?
Thats a fantastic question RT. My answer is it's because draft picks have become a liquid equity market since the introduction of FS, NGA, Futures and Live trading, with next year supposedly being the standout example thus far.

Since the Tiges have an excess of picks, they'll be wanting to consolidate the equity into some higher picks, though that may be possible to do with all your picks and you'll end up with a remainder that's wasted.

If it doesn't hurt your 2019 draft goals, your list manager will look to shift any potentially wasted equity into 2020 where it can be recycled into a trade or better pick. Much the same as collecting your lose change each year, or paying a mortgage for those who are lucky enough to attain the privilege.

Your list management will be well on top of it. Supporters not so much, but that's everywhere..
