My comment was in relation to you alluding to getting cheap picks ups/money ball selections vs big money stars.

We paid a premium price for McGov, they ontraded 2 second rounders for pick 13 and kept McAdam who many say would have gone top 30, plus I'm guessing he'd be on 750-800k as he was unhappy to sign for only 550k at Adelaide.

Not saying I'm unhappy with the deal, McGov could help us for the best tall forward line up in the comp.

I still think we'd be unders in cap space but need to get a long term FA this offseason to take advantage of front loading.

We'll be competing for a flag hopefully by 2021 and struggling with cap space from 2022 onwards.

Cripps will go from 900 - 1.6
Charlie 800-1.4
Harry 300-800
Dow - 400-800
Setterfield - 500-800
Fisher 300 - 650

Plus Weitering, marchbank, O'Brien, SPS
McGovern himself said he was getting the same money at Carlton that he was getting at Adelaide.

Cognilio would be a good addition but I don't like over paying for anyone.

It's the deals like Setterfield or Kennedy or Newman that can be just as valuable.

The Setterfield and Kennedy type deals are going to dry up soon.

GWS have their cap managed now. Will likely offload Patton at some stage which will open up big coin.

The likes of Delidio, Shaw and a few other older players on decent coin will retire too.

Bargain basement trades are more likely to come from Gold Coast over the next few years. If we're higher up the ladder and competing for finals, we may not go as hard for these younger players.

For me taking Coniglio at $1mil would be a no brainer but I think he will be getting $1.2mil which makes it tricky.
I also think these players like Marchbank, Setterfield, Pickett, Kennedy will dry up. We are only attracting them because we have been able to overpay them which if we get to a position where we are contending and have salary cap pressure we won’t be making those type of decisions.

I for one actually love what North have been doing. They managed to keep all their first and second rounders while keep topping up. Their recruitment probably just hasn’t discovered enough stars.
They shouldn’t have been so public but they were ahead of the curve with their targeting of all of Martin, DeGoey and Kelly. Their offers at the time seemed crazy but now look like unders.

There are always players available. Especially interstate ones wanting to come home. We will need less and less over the next few years. The core of the rebuild is done. As we become more successful I expect players will be happy to come to us.

A lot of posters commented we would have trouble attracting players after this season. Imagine when we start winning?

The 3rd rounder we got back from adelaide in the McGovern deal cancells out the state league player (that we didnt pay for).
McGovern , who was contracted for 2 more seasons , cost 2 picks in the 20's and i reckon time will prove this to be an absolute steal.

agree McGovern was very reasonably valued at 2X 2nd rounders, he Fasolo and Bugg for that matter give us some decent potency in our attacking half an area in which we’re extremely weak.

Neither would I, I wouldn't mind Kelly either. It's the balance of the List that is hard to work out

I think by the end of next year it will be so much clearer, with respect to players that have been on the list for a couple of years, through sustained injury concerns. Players such as Garlett, Pickett, Lang, Cuningham, Lebois, Phillips

I'm not even considering who's leaving. Anything can happen. I am expecting no more than 5-7 changes maximum.

At this stage our picks are:

- Round one pick (tied to Adelaide)
- Round three pick
- Round three pick (tied to Adelaide)
- Round four pick (tied to GWS)
- Round five pick (tied to Adelaide)

Wow - I didn’t realise our fortunes were so closely tied to Adelaide next year. Go the Blues in 2019 and all playing the Crows (including both the filth and, gulp, those red and black feral cheats)

I would rather two quality players such as Ellis and Cunningham, than one Coniglio

Ellis from Richmond and Cunningham from Sydney ?
Couldnt see either of them even making our best 22 from 2020.
Coniglio on the other hand is the real deal who has that something special that seperates from most others ...
