I can't fathom just how they think they can police this ruck HTB rule correctly. It's a straight up dumb idea (the only kind the AFL come up with)

So when HAS the ruckman had prior opportunity before he's allowed to be pinged if he takes it out of the ruck? 2 seconds? 3 fend off's later?

Every spud ruck is going to be thinking he's Paul Salmon and just take it out of the ruck every time, get tackled, hold onto it and have another ball up.

If anything, they've just introduced a dummy's way of wasting time.

Eat shit Gil. Also AFLX sucks, and Dangerfield is a flog.

Don't reckon it changes much, if a ruckman was in position to grab it out of the ruck chances are he's well on top of the other ruck and would of slapped down a big ol' +5 for a HTA anyways if they'd kept the old rules.
Clunking it out of the ruck and whacking it on your boot or shooting out a handball probably won't net them any more extra points than those crisp +5s.

Does it mean less contested possession each game for guys like Oliver? If Gawns gonna grab it and kick it away.
 
Anyone have a quick way of estimating what players in the 250-300k range need to average early on to be a worthwhile stepping stone?

Liberatore is one but there's a bunch of underpriced injury or new club guys in the forwards - Daniher, Elliott, Kent, Long, Fasolo. You'd need at least 80 from them to make it worthwhile correct?

Olivers biggest threat is Viney and Brayshaw

I can't see the Rucks grabbing it that much or them improving their average because of these rule changes.

I'd say you'd want a 80-90 average for a stepping stone. If a rookie half that price can average 70 then a midpricers has to make up the difference between them and the premo they could have been if you saved money going with the rookie over the midpricer.

Cheers. I figured it'd have to at least be 80 - which is frustrating because I think each of them being 50k less would make for solid 75s picks.

The way I usually do it is divide their price by 5(k) and add 30. If their predicted average is around or more than this then they're probably a decent pick.

So Libba, Roberton etc @ $300k -> Need to score 90+ to be a good pick
$250k guys -> Need to score 80+ to be a good pick

Position comes in to it too, for example, if they're a defender then 90+ is probably enough to be a keeper (so guys like Z Williams at $400k would still be a decent pick imo even if they won't average 110)

Just my quick way of evaluating mid-pricers, before the countless re-thinks, doubting judgement etc which is such a fun part of SC...

Fwiw, I agree 100% that it is an awful rule for football, and seems logically that it will increase congestion.

The AFL took out the third man up, and then introduced a 5 second delay per contest by having to nominate ruckmen and then wait for them to get to the bounce.

Then when the game got more congested (somehow, shockingly...) they brought in another new rule...
