Geelong, it appears, can have everyone.

It's either that or they manage their cap splendidly and should be commended.
Brilliant list management. Clearly a league leader in terms of attracting but also retaining players... Even players like Kelly that might've wanted out at some point.

Something I think we've tradotionally been quite good at this past 15 odd years (E.g. as is widely reported guys like ROK & Jude contemplated/requested/explored their options at one point too)... A good club manages it's players as a priority & is rewarded IMO. Good on the cats. Lots of respect.

Hoarding In bringing back home local Geelong talent also helps GTG.

Geelong are absolutely a leader in list management. They make a mockery out of the main whinges on here

1) No great draft picks - Geelong has taken 2 top 10 picks in the past 15 years

2) Less attractive destination - Geelong is a working class industrial town with a population of <200k, Sydney is a global metropolitan centre with a population of 4m+

Stephen Wells has done a brilliant job over a long period and we should aspire to match it

Like what you’re saying but ‘industrial town’? Industry is dead in Geelong...no more Ford, Shell sold to Viva and downsized, Alcoa given the heave-ho, Geelong Cement gone and Boral on its knees!

There’s plenty of accommodation though, they’re constantly expanding and building new facilities to accommodate those that don’t want to live by societal rules!

Aye. There has been sfa to cheer about in the Geelong economy. About all it makes nowadays is cups of coffee and bespoke bicycles. Still it is the doorway to some decent surf and fishing.

We haven't been too bad a this ourselves you realize?

In fact they haven't won a flag since 2011 and haven't been back to the big dance since, 3 prelims lost during this time.

May have only had 2 top 10 picks but benefited greatly in 01 and 06 for father son selections Ablett and Hawkins I think both cost picks in the 40s.

Geelong may not be a glamorous city but it hasn't seemed to stop Dangerfield, Ablett, Rohan, Tuohy, Dalhaus, Stanley or Henderson request trades to move there.

Probably also helps if you have your own tac cup team, in a footballing state. Not to mention only being an hours drive from the city where the majority of kids get drafted from.

Whilst Wells and his recruitment team have undoubtedly done an excellent job at keeping the cats up the top of the ladder for a sustained period of time, if you compare the 2 clubs in the 15 year period you highlighted it reads pretty similar.

flags 3 to 2 geelong
gf appearances 5 to 4 syd

yet we should aspire to match Geelong? I think we have

Geelong has a median house price of $780,000.

Bondi has a median house price of $2.3 million.

Gil is seriously a goose

He shouldn’t open his mouth on some of the subjects he has since started.

Not sure how long he left but for the better of the game he needs to go imo
AFL and North Melbourne and their ‘exhaustive processes’ hey?

Brendon Gale should help wheel him out now & take his seat. Should have been the man given the job when Gilligan took it.

We have also won more interstate finals than any other club in the last 15 years.
