Hottest 100 of the '10s

Sick, we share a fair few votes. Not a single one of yours I dislike either.

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs (2010)
M83 - Midnight City (2011)
Metronomy - The Look (2011)
Todd Terje - Inspector Norse (2012)
Hot Chip - Flutes (2012)
Beach House - Myth (2012)
Vampire Weekend - Hannah Hunt (2013)
The War on Drugs - Red Eyes (2014)
Future Islands - Seasons (Waiting On You) (2014)
Tame Impala - Let It Happen (2015)

Weird that my votes are so skewed to the first half of the decade but they were some really formative years for me in terms of finishing school/starting uni etc. Probably look back more fondly on Triple J during that era too.

Great selections.

Yeah I found it interesting most of my votes lie within the first half of the decade as well (Tints my only post-2016 song and was also the one I was least certain on).

I get that Triple J’s remit is to pump up Aussie music, but the idea that 65 of the best songs of the year come from Australia and 35 from the entire rest of the world is laughable. They have pushed it too far, abandoning acts that used to be their bread and butter. Hard to believe Vampire Weekend didn’t get a single song in when the album is making top 10 lists. Harmony Hall would have been a top 10 song in years gone by.

Launching Double J in 2014 was the worst thing to happen to Triple J IMO.

Sure it's great it offers an alternative option that caters to an older adult audience, but digital radio still isn't widely available (even in 2020) and the station just doesn't get anywhere near the exposure Triple J does.

Now artists who are still releasing great music like King Gizzard, The War on Drugs, Robyn, Vampire Weekend, Beach House, FKA Twigs, Father John Misty, Thundercat, Sufjan Stevens, Sampha, Kurt Vile, Pusha T, Thom Yorke, Fleet Foxes, LCD Soundsystem & St Vincent get their material allocated to the Double J "black hole" and most people don't get to hear it.

I do wonder how different the 2014-2019 Hottest 100s would look if they never splintered the station and still gave "Double J artists" airtime on Triple J.

Donny Benet, Touch Sensitive, Charli XCX, Rihanna & Radiohead were my clear fave tracks of the decade. Beyond that, Gotye, Tame Impala & Frank Ocean are then chosen as the best of all those likely to feature in the 100 (thereabouts classics). George Michael & Beth Ditto are some early 10s good-time bangers for ol' times sake (who I've been). Decided to leave out album tracks and more obscure JJJ-unfriendly stuff.

For the record, my 5 favourite albums of the decade:
1. Honey - Robyn
2. NTS Sessions 1-4 - Autechre
3. The Fool - Warpaint
4. Suck it and See - Arctic Monkeys
5. Exai - Autechre

Seems as though the songs on the list to choose from are just what made all of the 200s of each year, plus some other bigger songs. Shame I had to add Hannah Hunt manually, would’ve given it a slight chance of making the 100 if it was a standard choice.

Some very interesting songs on the voting list. Eg Adele's Rolling in the Deep.

according to reddit they’ve cocked up and left the entire 2018 H100 off the voting list. No Confidence, Losing It, Sicko Mode etc.

can someone who hasn’t voted yet please log in and see if this has been fixed ?

It would feel weird leaving it off, as it was a fairly iconic (and her most widely appealing) song, although it would be interesting to go through and separate out all the non-200 songs that JJJ shortlisted.

There’s so much music missing.

This is also way too hard! Only down to D and I have about 30 songs.....

I’ve noticed quite a few of these songs have been voted for by the presenters, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of them have been added so that when they do artists votes (Which they typically do for each countdown) and presenters votes, it’ll be easy for other people to find and vote for.

My actual top 15 songs didn’t make it but funny enough plenty of songs from the same albums did, think it shows a real decline in rock when bands like Biffy Clyro and Billy Talent don’t get a look in for Triple J but hey here is mine

Oh Papa vs Pretty... so sad they broke up so soon :(

One of the best tracks ever Children Collide - Social Currency missed out by 2 years 😢.

I only counted Kendrick's Money Trees & Backseat Freestyle, Azealia Banks' 212, Solange's Cranes In The Sky & Frank Ocean's Nights from the presenter votes on that list. On the flip side, i noticed the presenters voted for Middle Kids' Edge of Town, King Gizzard's Robot Stop & Kendrick's Art of Peer Pressure which aren't there.

Some of the non-H200 selections are genuinely bizarre. I'm pretty certain some of the tracks like Nicki Minaj's Anaconda have never been played on Triple J. Then you have Silversun Pickups' Skin Graph - a non-single with "only" 2.4 million Spotify streams (4th most on the album and relatively low for a song on the voting list) from an American rock band past their peak in both commercial and critical relevance.

Literally everything that's ever made a voting list last decade should be there if Skin Graph is included.

Bit the bullet and stuck with my previous 10:

Runaway #1

q3J6SDJ.jpg

Reckon I've got a chance with ~4-5 of those (Runaway, Dancing..., Midnight City, Video Games and maybe one of the others).

OOFT obviously things will change in the next month but Violent Soho winning would be amazing

all those Ruel tracks tho, wtf? bloke is average. at least there's no current sign of Dance Monkey

Would love a Violent Soho win. Hell * yeah.

Very early days though considering the stuff at the back end only has 10 to 20 votes against them at the moment. Would take anything from 100-50 with a grain of salt for another week or so.
