We seem to get better results (W/L) when we are decimated by injuries eg 2016. Jesus is a strange cat.

Gardner (PCL) looks gone for the season.
Libba a chance this week. Gowers I reckon will be in the VFL if he comes through the test.
Wallis (coming back from a stress fracture) says he's definitely playing VFL (not AFL) this week. He admits it's still a bit uncertain when he'll be 100%.

Bont sounds 50-50 for this week. Hope we go conservative with him if there's any doubt.
Libba sounds near certain.
Daniel also about 50-50 by the sound of it.
Wally sounds done. Hope he just works on getting himself right for 2020.
Toby McLean was described as a low-grade hammy so only 2-3 weeks.
It'll be an important few weeks for Webby when he gets back on the field in the VFL.

Libba, Macrae, Dunkley. We'll be fine. Saints have worse injuries than us. Bont didn't do much against the Demons. Saints are a mess right now. Have lost 8 straight. Sacking their coach won't instantly make them better like it did for North and Carlton because it's their list that's the problem.

We can get it done without Bont. At least against St Kilda we can.
If there's any doubt I'd rather he recovered fully. I don't want him breaking down completely and finding he's done for the season.

Agree we can still significantly outclass the Saints in the guts without Bont

I wouldnt 'rest' him but if hes not right I dont want him potentially risking anything for the run home. Will be more important later on

It is a big worry. He has been great this year (bar goal kicking accuracy, of course).
If it was seen as any risk of making the injury worse I'd give him the week off. We have the players to fill the role ( obviously not his ilk) his not someone we can afford to loose long term.

No surprises but no mention of Suckling, Naughton or Bont. (Docs had a look at Naughton's hand on Sunday but he went back out and finished the game.)

Morris's ACL is obviously the attention grabber this week. He'll undergo a conventional ACL reco (presumably with bone broth supplements).

However the rest of the list is in pretty good shape barring Wallis, Gardner and Greene who are done for the season. Gardner (PCL) is a slight possibility to play VFL finals but I can't see him getting any more senior games this year.

The good news is that Cavarra, McLean, Schache, Suckling, Vandermeer and Webb are all a chance to be playing at some level this week.

We've been critical of our medicos/conditioning staff in recent years From memory a fairly thorough review was undertaken last offseason. Credit where credit is due, whatever changes were instituted have produced a much healthier list this year.
Good point.
Some people were potting our medical and conditioning staff when we had an unfortunate run with injuries ("we must be the worst in the league ... blah blah"). It seems they aren't so bad after all.

The reality is there's a fairly significant element of luck - both good and bad - that determines how your club's injury list looks at any given time. Quality staff and practices are of course important but our fairly short list of injuries is no more a measure of that quality than were the long injury lists of 2016-2018.

Is it that they weren't/aren't so bad after all and our luck has just changed? Or is it as BHS suggests, that after a review following some pretty dire years, we have improved our personnel/systems, which has resulted in a healthier injury list?

I'd say luck is the most significant factor. Tigers and Pies have some of the biggest injury lists this year and I'd say they are probably employing the best (or the most expensive at least).

The same people that were lamenting the professionalism of our medical/rehab staff were also the ones leading the charge claiming that we had the worst assistant coaches in all humanity. That subject hasn't had a run in a while.

This is a massive problem with people constantly potting the club. As soon as something comes good, they claim things have obviously changed and they were right all along.

Were they really the same people? Will take your word on that one. However, I think you'll find that most of the criticisms about our assistant coaches were that 1) we hadn't got new ones in with new ideas in a while, and 2) the ones we had had been (in their opinion) needlessly shuffled and 'played out of position'. Argument could be made that they've finally learnt their new roles, hence why performance is better, leading to fewer complaints.

As opposed to the constant reference to authority and not asking questions, because we're all just plebs, the club is obviously always right and can never improve on anything? Surely there is a balance to be had?
