Am i right in that the articles mention an unspecified ankle injury? Given he played out the semi although not effective hopefully it is not too serious and it does say he will be back training after the xmas break só hoping he is but at the same time like most I do take these media reports with a grain of salt and hope for the best
I am confident the club can cover the injury short term during the season but it is dependant on all the other key pieces staying on the park and also being in form
Yep, hope will fix it

Did anyone notice who was in the rehab group for any of the training sessions?
I think Shaw and Deledio would be on modified programs and with the coaching in AFLW I don't think they will participate in many sessions till the new year
Good to see Buntine and Kennedy in the top 5 of the time trial and the others I noticed were Cameron, Keefe and Haynes but any other names apart from those mentioned in the top 5?
I am assuming Kelly and Greene are in the rehab group but no updates on either? I would hope the key players are back in full training for when the team is back in early January

Nothing new in the article from fox but it will be interesting to see who is back with the main group when they return from their Xmas break, I think they have it wrong about Toby still in a moon boot as I thought I read he was out of it?

GWS GIANTS

It’s a star studded line up when it comes to injuries at the Giants. Josh Kelly (hip surgery) has been undergoing rehab at the club, while Toby Greene (foot surgery) remains in a moon boot. Jon Patton (ACL) went for his first run earlier this week, after the 25-year-old underwent his third knee reconstruction in July. Heath Shaw and Lachie Whitfield are both on their own individual programs, after respective knee surgeries, but should be back to full training in the new year. The same can be said for Aiden Corr(groin).

I'd actually be more wirried about injuries if I was a Demons supporter. If you look at the AFL article it doesn't look great.

As for Adam Simpson's very frank report on the Eagles it's hard to guage if clubs have real problems or are just more open than others.

I think Heater and Deledio will always be on individual programmes, most guys over 30 are.

We have some things to worry about though.

I think some clubs are more open about injuries than others and also I think some clubs have better rehab departments and I understand how it does give some clubs an advantage and I see the Giants as a club that needs to find the right person to oversee that area so hopefully next year it all clicks for them

Look at the position from the AFL article and our's objectively isn't unusual.

I have no problem with problem with improvements and have never suggested otherwise.

The fact I am disgusted by abuse of the club by "supporters" is entirely compatible with that.

From the media articles lately
Has it been confirmed that Greene is not yet back running? That would be a concern for me as although he is experienced I feel he would need a good pre season to start the season well. Hopefully he is back running by the end of jan and full contact in late feb but i would rather he is 100% for game time
Sounds like Kelly is progressing well and I would be confident he will be ready for at least 1 of the pre season games
Also I think it will be the same for Shaw as he completed the latest 2k run and I think the coaches will have told him to take it easy with the pre season
It will be interesting to see if they ramp up Deledio's training for a pre season game as with rd 1 a home game he could be 1 that comes straight in
Haynes has had an ongoing issue with back tightness but not last season from memory so it may be a management thing with him
The Tomlinson calf strain is interesting as he has been very durable the last 2 years so hopefully the coaches can just adjust his program to minimise any potential recurrences
With the 2 game suspension for Mumford I think he would step back up his training when the JLT starts so his hamstring issue will have plenty of time to recover
I wonder if they will have a different approach to the management of Corr and his Groin issue and if they will need him to miss some games to avoid a repeat of last season but I am confident in Taylor or Buntine coming in and it may present an opportunity for Keefe as well
And great to see Patton back on the track running and maybe he can be back playing in the reserves before the bye

I think Shaw is a better chance of returning before Greene which most would have said was crazy

To give an indication, jesse Hogan is almost in full match sims at Freo, and even the coaching staff are saying he is unlikely to be ready round one

Greene ain't playing round 1

I agree in that I think Shaw will likely be right for rd 1 and I am thinking Greene for rd 4 or thereabouts but I think it will give an opportunity for Bonar to spend time in the forward 50 and maybe Daniels depending on pre season form

Any updates on the injured/returning players?
Haynes didn't run in the 2k when the players came back from the xmas/ny break
Corr did run but I am not sure where he is at after his groin problems last year

Is Kelly back in full contact training?
Same for Deledio and Shaw or if they are still on a modified program?

Not sure on any other small niggles but hopefully we get some news coming through during the week on the pre season progress of these guys and others

As official as it gets from the AFL and I am sure we will get a better idea over the next week with the practice games starting but apart from Patton everyone should have a run in the practice games and although we will have to see about Haynes and how his injury goes as a unspecified back injury could drag out. If i see him around the game tomorrow I will see what he reveals and the other one with questions marks is Corr so hopefully he plays tomorrow

Estimated Return

Toby Greene Ankle 2-3 weeks
Nick Haynes Back 2-3 weeks
Jon Patton Knee Mid-May
Adam Tomlinson Calf 2-3 weeks

Early prognosis

Greene, Haynes and Tomlinson are all aiming to play in one of GWS's JLT Community Series games, with the Giants' second match, against Adelaide on March 8, their most likely return date. Tomlinson is the most advanced of the trio, with the defender close to resuming full training. Greene has made steady progress since undergoing ankle surgery last November, but Haynes is taking longer than expected to overcome back soreness. Key forward Patton's rehabilitation from his third knee reconstruction has been going well and he will look to fast-track that process when he visits knee specialists in Philadelphia next month. Brett Deledio won't play in Friday's practice match against Sydney for management reasons, but the veteran is expected to be available for the Giants' opening JLT game against the Swans on March 2. - Nick Bowen
