Injury 2019 Injury Thread

Disappointed about Haynes... excellent player and I hope he recovers quickly. But maybe you need to direct your annoyance toward your club officials. The GWS Medical report on Haynes was not submitted to the tribunal. There was no mention of a fractured larynx. The MRP were aware that he played out the game but were unaware of his injury because your officials didn’t submit the medical. I think Bont may have gone if they had. They can be lass than impressed all they like but maybe they should have done something about it before the tribunal hearing.

All the best to Nick Haynes. Great footballer.

Yeah I'm all for smashing our medical staff when they screw up, happily do so.

But they didn't break his Larynx with a high late hit.

Bont should be gone for at least 2 maybe even 4 weeks.

Don't be stupid.

AFL clubs can't dictate medical appointments for scans and specialist appointments. That's not how the medical system works unless Victoria Health is in a worse state than I thought.

The article on it clearly states that the follow-up with the specialist was after the MRP deadline for evidence. GWS reported Haynes was injured and was going in for scans/appointments. The AFL didn't/wouldn't extend the deadline.

AFL umps are biased on the field, why on earth would we expect it to change off the field. A non-clown organisation would have said - 'hang on, let's wait for that report - he had trouble breathing so there might be something in it' but no it was a case of rush to get it sorted before knowing. It's called willful indifference.

Disappointed for Haynes but hopefully he is back for the 1st or 2nd final as he is such an important player for the club but it is even more important now for Corr and Taylor to be in the line up and hopefully they both find form quickly again
If the AFL can change the rules for sooky boy Reiwoldt I dont see why they cant change the rule to re examine the Bont/Haynes incident and I dont see it as a conspiracy just another way that makes it harder for the club to be successful

Not sure where Lloyd will play this weekend as seniors would like another senior body but with him missing several weeks if he is fit enough to come straight back in as I think he would enable Greene to play more midfield minutes

Fingers crossed for first final:

Haynes Davis Shaw
Whitfield Taylor Williams
Kelly Cogs Tomlinson
Greene Cameron Finlayson
Daniels HH Hill
Mummy Hopper Taranto

DeBoer Kennedy Reid Keeffe

I’ve got Keeffe for his versatility (forward, back and in the ruck).
Haven’t put Lids in because of likelihood of re-injury. I’ve got Cogs in (probably just wishful thinking). I reckon Haynes will be alright (you don’t run on your throat). And I’m just hoping Greene and Hopper are magically ok!

What do you you think of this lineup?

Close to our strongest lineup all year, but yeah wishful thinking I'm guessing.

I hope we don't see a situation where Haynes is still out come week 1 of the finals but the guy who put him out can play. God the AFL are muppets sometimes.

From the herald sun with my thoughts and Greene, Hopper and Haynes to come back in for Hill, Cumming and Keefe

Stephen Coniglio (knee) test I dont think he will make it for the 1st final

Toby Greene (calf) test Straight back in

Jacob Hopper (hamstring) test Straight back in and maybe half of the NEAFL final

Zac Langdon (ankle) test May get up for the NEAFL final if not season over

Brett Deledio (calf) test Season over

Nick Haynes (throat) test I think the club will play him

Matt Flynn (knee) season

Jonathon Patton (knee) season

Callan Ward (knee) season

I’ve taken Cogs out and put Corr in. Cogs won’t be ready. I personally think the club overages Corr. I hope I’m proved wrong.

I think Corr has only gotten games because of injuries to first Taylor and then Haynes. I'd definitely be putting Lloyd in over Corr.

I now think Cogs won’t play next week. Shame as we may never see him run out for the Giants again.
The good thing is that Cogs will tell us this time when he is ready

If he is going the last thing he needs is to come back early and do a knee

If he is picked I'm confident he is 100%

I think Zac Langdon is a risk. Been out too long

I think Haynes will play, but cogs will play the following week

I think Lids will play.

Agreed. I think the three talls is enough down back and Lloyd has shown an ability to hit the scoreboard

I’d be backing him as well

I don’t want to go too far back and talk of Shiel Cotchin but you can look at historically of Tom Mitchell elbows, Gablett, Fyfe, Cunnington, all ‘good bloke’ or ‘Brownlow favourites’ and they get let off. Bont is the same boat. It’s only GWS so we shouldn’t care.
I remember all the late shots in the Nth game in Tassie. All of them were okayed. Just one look at Siebel’s late hit on Toby, very similar to Haynes, but because it’s Toby - nothing to see here.
Evident also in the language around the studs up rule. We’d better change it in case Tiger-Jack gets pinged.
One rule for some.

Regardless of injury, do you folks think that it would be a boost to our confidence if Cogs signed?
Equally, do you think it would break the team if he announced his departure?
I think his return from injury may be a good indicator of either scenario but like to hear your thoughts.

He wouldn’t announce his departure until after the season is done.
