Injury 2019 Injury Updates Thread

Dr Jonas should have just said the second bit - “And it turns out Ollie has been running around with a broken ankle on the weekend, he’s got a little fracture in his ankle,"

A small fracture in one of several bones in the ankle is different to saying a broken ankle.

It's not often they say what specific bone was broken when they claim they broke their ankle. The average Joe has no idea.

So Jonas gave out our changes 3 to 4 days before the deadline?

No big deal. Ollie was walking around in a moon boot for a couple of days, so its no as if it was a shock omission.

I feel like maybe it’s when you run you have an awareness of your calf being tight or something?

No idea though, same for “signalling”

It is pretty hard to get injury updates out of the Club lately. The last time I looked Charlie was 4-5 weeks away but the media had some vision of him training at Alberton last week and he looked to be moving pretty well. On the other hand the AFL website still lists him as 'indefinite' and of course Stephen Rowe says he 'will not play at all in 2019'. Hopefully Charlie is back just after the bye. With a bit of luck we may get Charlie, Ollie Wines and Hamish Hartlett back around the same time.

The AFL bye is in three weeks so maybe Robbie Gray and Hamish Hartlett who is also listed as three weeks could both return against Sturt at Alberton.

We must not rush our players back.

Give them the time to recover. Getting Dixon back may get us to 7th or 8th for an exit early on. Playing him early, along with Hartlett, Watts, Burton etc may also result in a chronic injury, which hurts us for next year.
I’m sure Hammer thought he could return earlier. We now know that didn’t end well!

So we are going to have a season where all of Dixon, Hartlett and Watts play less than 10 games with true long term injuries that could see us put them on the LTI list.

The medium term injuries are mounting ie 5 weeks straight - Jonas, Robbie and Wines.

There will always be 1 and 2 week injuries so our depth will be tested this year.

It's why those playing in the Maggies have to do well. But more importantly pick them when they are in very good form ie 4 or 5 good weeks in a row. Don't let them dangle like Mayes who has dropped off after a good month of footy.

Nah bro, we'll just look at the bottom of the stat line and pick the players with the least amount of touches.

Yeah I think we should be rotating players through much more than we have been, Drew really didn’t need to play every game, and it’s actually insane that we still haven’t tried Mayes up forward, though I think Farrell jumped him right at the moment a spot opened up.

There isn’t much reason to give Ryder and Westhoff gold passes anymore, they aren’t offering any leadership or experience at this point. Ladhams absolutely deserves a chance and Frampton isn’t far behind.

Atley just has to play sooner rather than later, same for Billy and Sam Mayes.

The problem we have is that we are missing so many senior players that we don’t want to drop any more, but Ryder, Westhoff and Motlop have all been terrible all year.

That’s why I reckon we have to use this week to rotate another couple through, and then make the call on who we drop of Johnson, Motlop, Westhoff, Ryder or Farrell the week after.

Seen some **** on bookface saying Burton out for a month.

Disappointing for Burton if true.

Embarrassing for the club, came off what, 3 times with soreness last week and couldn’t train for that very reason.

Then does a hammy in the first 5 minutes. Should have got the week off.

It really seems like our injury management is short sighted and in the shitter

Terrible management. Garner could have slotted in down back and given Burton a rest. Or a worse option, Bonner could have stayed in which would have made me angry but would have avoided an injury too.

Will any of our players, you know, return from injury this year? Wines gave it a go but he only lasted a few weeks. Broady did it just now but he’s cooked and it took 2 years to see him again. It just feels like every injured player falls in a black hole never to be seen ever again. At this rate we’ll need Sam Gray to play key forward and key defender.
