I've had Heath Shaw in my side every year since '07. I've been planning on leaving him out for the first time but then he goes and complicates things
Same. I think we were the only 2 that had him last year. New rule should suit also.

Made this comparison late last year, and as I watch the replay + check the stats from JLT1, Paul Ahern finds himself in my side yet again.

26 disposals, 11 contested, 80% efficiency, 7 clearances, 11 inside 50's from 56% game time.

Mentioned him a few pages ago.

He’s lost a mountain of weight, he was chubby last year and was still getting good numbers. First real pre-season, he’s going to beast it.

Great user as well.

I'm still wary of consistency with 11 game players in their 2nd year ......I'm a huge fan of Ahern, but next year for me

It's hard to see him as your normal second year player given the huge amount of footy he missed after he was drafted.

He's getting very close to selection in my team.

One suave ****

I'm not denying Ahern is good ......he was in my R1 side last season, even though he wasn't named ..... I just think one year early to pick him ....just an opinion, not worth much ;)

Still haven't put Hately or Butters in either.

I really need a cheaper ruck to put their hand up or I'm screwed and have to change my entire team.. again

Yeah couple weeks ago I traded Macrae down to I think it was Taranto (might’ve been Adams at the time but he’s injured now) which allowed me to upgrade all my $117-$123K rookies to the $140K-$210K rookies who I think will be needed this year.

A lot of love getting thrown around on here over a few practice matches. Teams chopping and changing, this player out for this player that starred. Not buying it. We wouldn’t do it through the season if one player had one good game. Practice matches are by and large a place where players blow out the cobwebs and from a SC perspective we get to see what the rookies can potentially do. Need to keep in mind that plenty of stars are missing from all sides that run out there thus inflating scores from certain players-Ruckmen going up against 2nd or 3rd stringers, on ballers being the #1 mid with there guns missing as a couple examples. I think we need to wait for the dust to settle on all the JLT games before making decisions on who we keep/throw away. I won’t be touching my side until the round one teams are announced, too many variables at the moment. No knee jerk reactions this early in the piece.
Talking logic in this thread is a breach of the terms of use. Permaban please modz.

What do you see Aherns averaging?
Hard to say but if he's getting 75% tog it's gotta be 90+ and he's capable of going far higher.

Game against WC last year in Hobart he scored 124 gave a glimpse of his potential.

Paying $375k for a player should not be a stepping stone. Should be paying that price in the hope they are going to break out and be a keeper. Would need to average 105-110 to be considered keeper status IMO.

If 375k isn't a stepping stone price, what price is?

Rookies. Do you think it's wise paying $375k for someone that you are fairly certain won't be a keeper?

My team is looking like a bit of mid priced madness at the moment, but I have hopes that all my mid pricers will score well enough to be keepers. Realistically, the odds of success with every one of them is low, but that should be the goal with mid pricers IMO. Each to their own though. It wouldn't be much fun if we all had the same view.

Yes I do. My whole strategy is based on this. I have less rookies on-field so I have trades available to upgrade my stepping stones. Arguably faster than you can upgrade your on-field rookies.

Says who? Is that another "rule" like never ever trade a premo? There's more than one way to skin a cat/play SC.
If you pay 375k and get a 95 average it's not a wasted pick just because u have to eventually upgrade them.
You'll make 100k and can make up the 15 points a premo would score and more with the 200k+ saved spent elsewhere.
Sure you'd rather them turn premo, but it's about value for money with starting picks too.
