Where do we sit? compared to every other team?

I see lots of predictions of us finishing bottom 4 to everything going right and making the 8. Our midfield will either make or break our season. I feel Fyfe, SHill, Walters, Mundy, Langdon staying fit and playing at their best is critical. Hopefully Cerra and Brayshaw can step up and be more than just young players playing a role.

I feel the strong teams will be Richmond, Essendon, Melbourne, Collingwood and West Coast. Then there will be the rest.

My ladder prediction

Richmond – Adding Lynch to what they have. They should be a powerful team

Essendon – Drug saga the best thing that to the club? Their list is crazy good now

Melbourne – Should improve on 2018

Collingwood – Should improve or stay much the same.

West Coast – Should stay the same

GWS – Still so much talent.

Adelaide – See them rising slightly. I rate their list.

Geelong – Much the same

North – Much the same, should slightly improve.

Hawthorn – Think will fall with older players failing.

Fremantle – Improved scoring and a settled defence should help us.

Brisbane – Seem to be a team that has belief. Hard to predict.

Bulldogs – Much the same.

Sydney – Think their list has hit a tipping point.

Carlton – Expecting a few more wins just from general improvement.

St Kilda – Much the same.

Port Adelaide – I see port failing due to their poor list management.

Gold Coast – Much the same.

Its hard isnt it. You always look at the year that went and think certain things are a lock and then Collingwood/WC make the GF...

I agree with yours roughly bar Geelong, Hawthorn and Essendon.

Geelong are another year older with every decent player in or over their prime. Dont think they are going anywhere with too many one-way runners in the midfield which means they get belted when its not going there way.

Hawks: Clarkson is a genius and they added Winguard. Unlike Geelong, I dont think their most important players are passed it (Roughy and co contributed little last year and their out put will be similar). I think they make the 8 but probably not the 4 (they over-achieved).

Essendon: Will find a way to not make the 4.

I also still expect Carlton to be bottom 2 because Bolton has proven nothing and I dont anyone else bar GC could be worse.

Can see Melbourne finishing top 2.

I have us at 8th, very winnable games on our fixture especially considering our improvement in terms of list

1st. Melbourne (Looked great last year but couldn't capitalise on it when it mattered. My tip for the flag)
2nd. Richmond (Really good culture and bringing in a premier tall forward isn't too bad either)
3rd. Collingwood (Collingwood are an interesting one, I could see them fall but they are at a really good point as a team)
4th. West Coast (Premiers, last time a premier didn't make the 8 after winning was the Bulldogs I think? West Coast have a much better list then the bullies)
5th. Geelong (I like them here, but they could fall. Their draft didn't really help)
6th. Adelaide (Bad season for Adelaide last year but they can bounce back. They don't have the X-Factor but can be pretty solid)
7th. GWS (Just overall talent. In terms of structure they fall behind other teams, but they're around this mark)
8th. Fremantle (Going through the ladder predictor I think we'll be lucky to make it but it's entirely possible. I think adding Bewley and Valente will help our midfield this year. Schultz and Sturt can be good forwards too)

9th. Essendon (Swap em with Freo if you want, I only have a game or two seperating them. Essendon had the same wrap as the big improvers at the start of last year. They've got the talent, but is it enough?)
10th. Hawthorn (Could make the 8. Lists a bit old and there's no real star upcoming young player on their list besides say Worpel?. Wingard will help though)
11th. Sydney (Their list just doesn't seem very good. Bringing in players like Thurlow doesn't help either)
12th. Brisbane (Set for big improvement, Neale AND Lyons are amazing additions and I think Joyce can make an impact straight away)
13th. North Melbourne (Another team that can be up there, the fixture isn't kind but i won't put it past them to be top 8)
14th. Port Adelaide (I rate them a bit higher than most but their list is a bit of a mess and losing Wingard doesn't help. I don't rate Butters and Duursma either.)
15th. Western Bulldogs (Bailey Smith will make an immediate impact but outside of that I don't know what's to look forward to. They've surprised us before though; see 2016)
16th. Carlton (I wish I could place them higher cause I love some of their young blokes like Cripps, SPS and Dow but they lose too many games I feel)
17th. St Kilda (Overall a mess, Gresham looks good and I had Bytel in my top 20 for the draft but outside of that there's not much)
18th. Gold Coast (Obvious choice for obvious reasons)

I see every team improving except North, Geel, Syd, Carl, WC, Rich and Pies.

For the third year in a row, I'll go 10th give or take 2 for us.

Well I cranked up the ladder predictor and got a strange result.

Freo, Eagles and Pies all missed out on the 8 on % on 13 wins apiece.

The top 4 were Melb, Ess, Ric and GWS followed by Haw, NME, Ade and Bri

I'd have the dominant teams being Collingwood, West Coast, Melbourne, and Adelaide.

I think Richmond have lost a lot of that quality depth that kept them strong for so long and an injury or two will expose them big time.

On the flipside I think Adelaide will rise. Everything that could possibly go wrong for them last year did and they still managed 12 wins with a tough draw. Their list is still quite talented.

About 10th with 10-11 wins I think. Reckon the 8 is probably outside our reach but I'd hope we are competitive against Sydney/Hawthorn/Port/NM (all very average sides imo). WB/Brisbane are rising but you'd think we'd have them covered as well.

I know we are a different side this year but based on absolutely zero research I wouldn't think there has been a hell of a lot of teams jump into finals off the back of a low 70's percentage. Back to back solid trade / draft years should hold us in good stead in the next few years but we seem way too talent dependant for mine and our systems fall into total dysfunction as soon as we have a few of our key pieces out.

I wouldn't be surprised if we just hold ground as far as wins go but improve our percentage

But then again I've always been a pessimistic bugger

Doggies are my surprise riser this year , that game late in the year against the tigers was as good a performance from a bottom 6 team I saw all year just absolute precision kicking. Love their midfield and if one of their flakey fwds ( Boyd of Shache ) can stand up they will push right up the ladder

We took the losing grand finalist just as close in R23?

From the teams that finished below us I'd say only Brisbane could go past us and having lost Beams I'm not as bullish about them rising up too far anymore either. Some key injuries could destroy them. Does anyone really see Gold Coast, Carlton or St Kilda improving that much, if at all?

Of the teams that finished in the 8 I think Sydney, Hawthorn, GWS and Geelong are all possibilities to fall out. Think Collingwood and Melbourne are the two teams in the 8 most likely to improve. Richmond and West Coast I think will drop slightly but probably not far enough to be out of the 8.

Of those above us not in the 8 I don't see Port, North or the Dogs really improving that much - I think Port the most likely of those to fall off a cliff. Adelaide probably the most likely to bounce back but they are just as likely to drop further imo. And I'm still not convinced Essendon are the real deal either - they got a bunch of shiny new toys last year and went backwards.

There is no reason we can't finish in the 8 - and if we don't we should be extremely close. Our best football that we showed early last season, with a better forward line, better depth across the field, and a more accountable midfield, should have us pushing for finals. No excuses - including injuries.

Sure that was a good showing by us but it was in Perth on a warmish day and we matched the pies in a real gruelling hard running affair on a fast track
The Dogs took it right up to the Tigers at the ' G ' on the back of some awesome kicking through the middle of the ground against some pretty hot tiger pressure. It's all guesswork I suppose but it impressed me anyway

I’m not expecting any miracles next season, I see it as a season of building. Get us to a stage where we can kick a 100 points a game, have the kids all start to gel and get bigger bodies. Not tolerate a 60 point flogging and learn to win away as well as making ourselves hard to beat at home. I see us sitting around 8-10 at the end of 2019, and if all this can happen, then I see 2020 where our window will open. If none of that happens next year, then RTB should be shown the door.

A team that kicks 100 points per game average is the likely premier, or at least right up at the pointy end in September. A team capable of kicking 100 points every week is almost certainly the premier. Yeah I'd take that too.
