So senior list 5 players out Wells, Goldsack, Aish, Dunn, Crocker.
In Cameron & Lynch upgrade.
So 3 list places available for draft.

Rookies:
Cat A Out Murray, Lynch
Remaining Mihocek, Broomhead, Appleby, Keane, Noble, Dunn?
Cat B Tohill, Magden, Wilson

If we redraft Dunn, then no room for anymore rookies.
we will have 6 Cat A & 3 Cat B.

Everything you say looks right but I can't find the 6th player/category

6 players in total off the list: Wells Goldsack Aish Crocker Dunn Murray

3 x National Drafts
Cameron on Senior list
Dunn redrafted to Rookie list
????????

We also have to squeeze Noble into the Cat A Rookie list.
He was effectively our ‘7th’ Cat A rookie this year.
He must become part of the 6 for 2020 (assuming we are running with a 38+6 list again)

Interesting if we are thinking of upgrading Lynch to the senior list with no AFL exposure, and the fact he is probably even further behind in the pecking order with Cameron coming onto the list.

Can't keep him on the rookie list any longer so it was either that or delist.

It has to be salary cap decision, we are obviously maxed out to promote a spud like Lynch, won't play a senior game next year and if he does then look out because he will become an even bigger whipping boy than Blair

Yeah I see that but for mine he has no more development left in him that will see him play good football on a Hawkins or Lynch.... and I'd much rather Howe, Scharenberg, Langdon play on the Darling or Membrey sized forward.

Cut our loses and get another Cat B rookie in if need be

Who is this alternate Cat B? If there isn't 1 available then why not retain Madgen? He won't be keeping anyone out of a spot.

Coming from a long way back in terms of alternate junior pathways and only just turned 21 so still relatively young for a ruckman. Well worth another year. I'm looking forward to the Lynch-Cameron battle for a senior spot.

Maybe there aren't very many good Cat B prospects? May as well keep a bloke as one if the available options don't stack up given he doesn't take up a list spot that would be otherwise taken up by a genuine footballer, nor does he take cap space.

There's also a general assumption on here that Madgen is on a two year contract, but that was never announced. For all we know he was given the max term of three years.

Madgen is fine option as a third tall defender but he comes into the seniors mostly to play as a CHB, which is clearly a mistake.

True. He may have another year on his deal.

Agreed. He is a general defender. But are several others who can play that role better.

Every year there are an assortment of Cat B rookies available either at the draft end of season or mid season like Tom Wilson.

If Magden is not good enough as a KPD and is behind several others when it comes to mid sized intercepting defenders then why not delist and keep the spot open? Look far and wide for the Cat B rookie that offers us something we desire (e.g outside pace or small forward) or at least is more likely to have a career (and future trade value) than Magden.

If finding potential Cat B rookies was as easy as you suggest we'd have had a full quota every year since the inception of the program, but that's just not the case. If there's a better option available then I'd be happy for Madgen to be moved on but it's not something I'd entertain on the off chance we might unearth 1. I'd assume they look far and wide for prospects yet we've had years where we haven't had any or been lucky to have had 1 or occasionally 2.

I'm happy they have given Lynch another chance, pretty raw and still young.

Might also be prudent to have that extra tall in our back pocket in case things go south with Grundy next year (not that I think they will..)

It's not just an assumption Madgen is uncontracted. Footywire has him listed as uncontracted here. Now footywire might be wrong but it seems a bigger assumption that he's on 3 years to me.

Footywire also says Treloar is contracted until 2021, which we know is untrue because the Hun revealed he signed an unannounced extension. Just because they list players under years doesn't mean they're not just taking educated guesses like the rest of us.

It's a source of debatable accuracy but is generally correct. You're just guessing.

I’m not sure playing talls in the back pocket suits when we have so many medium defenders already ;)

I'll come back to this comment then if Madgen is still on the list but isn't included in the bulk re-signings the club announces.

Sure thing. It will be the equivalent of randomly choosing a multiple choice question and guessing the answer right.
