So considering we have played the same gamestyle for years and were avg'ing over 100 points per game for the last 6 years was it the game style that suddenly doesn't work this year or was it the fact that we lost too many players to injury and guys like Kennedy etc had their worst year in his career?

Hit the nail on the head.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with our game plan. When you have your best players on the park, healthy and in good form the game plan is proven and more than capable to be high scoring and attractive.

2018 will go down as a year where the playing group (for a number of reasons) was not able to deliver.

Let's see how we go with some of our senior players on the field. 2017/18 have been rebuilding and injury plagued years but we haven't bottomed out. Some of our young forwards are going to pay big dividends. We developed a lot of depth this year.

Yep, that's pretty much how I see it. Can't wait for 2019...

Yep say Parker 22 games buddy at least 19 Kennedy plays every game, rampe plays every game .

Then say 18-19 from McVeigh jack Grundy and Smith

If we get that from the senior core there won’t be much to complain about

My 22 for round one 2019 as things stand now.
Smith - Grundy - O'Riordan
McVeigh - Melican - Rampe
Jones - Kennedy - Lloyd
Hayward - Reid - Heeney
Papley - Franklin - Ronke
Naismith - Mills - Parker

Bench: Aliir, Hewitt, Cunningham, Florent

It's tricky, I'm hoping this isnt how we line up next year, I'm hoping we bring in someone who can take FF, push Buddy to the flank, and let him play that role. Move Heeney to the wing, change up the midfield. I don't know how everyone fits in, which is a good problem up to a point. My issue is that we can put together 22 players who have a reasonable shot at beating their opponent, but how you make it all work gameplan wise I'm not sure about.

So there was no way I was having Hewett coming off the bench, so I played with your best 22 a little...

Smith - Grundy - Melican
McVeigh - Mills - Rampe
Jones - Kennedy - Lloyd
Hayward - Reid - Heeney
Papley - Franklin - Ronke
Naismith - Hewett - Parker

Bench: Aliir, O'Riordan, Cunningham, Florent

So now where's Dawson going? And how defensive is that bench? And who have we forgotton?

No, but I couldn't be bothered moving everyone! Who would your team be?
Not Reid because he just doesn’t play enough , so not point planing with him and I’ll wait to after the off season

Naismith another one I wouldn’t have and I also can’t see Grundy, aliir amd melican playing together even if Rampe is pushed up to the HBF

Yep, so write it up (or be lazy like me and copy and paste).

Yes, I have issues with the Grundy/Aliir/Melican deal. But of the three, who do you drop?

Depends who we are playing Kirky. Each play different roles.

Personally I'd have Dawson in. I think Tommy Mac is the right size to be third tall if Reid is fit. I hope Tommy spends the off season with Plugger or Davis to work on his kicking.

I'd be happy for Macca to play 10 to 12 games next year. Suspect Jones may not be an automatic selection next year. As I wrote elsewhere, I expect KJ to be a fill in.

B: Smith, Grundy, Lloyd
HB: Aliir, Melican, Rampe
C: Florent, Mills, Jones
HF: Heeney, Reid, Hayward
FF: Sinclair, Buddy, Papley
R: Naismith, Parker, Kennedy
Int: Cunningham, Hewett, Ronke, McVeigh

When I put a fully fit list down we look to be in a good spot. Didn't find room for Dawson or COR. I don't feel Hannebery or Rohan are missing. Jack and Marsh would be around the mark but not there. McCartin doesn't have to play as the key forward plus I'm not sure where our recruits fit all this

Best 22... write em up and put em up for all to see... Round 1, 2019 opponent to be determined, so just the best team from the current available.

OMG! I can't believe I left Sinclair out!!! I wondered why I had space for COR... I would certainly play him ahead of COR and shuffle! :p

Lloyd Reg Allir
Mills Melican Rampe
Heeney JPK Florent
Ronke Bud McCartin
Papley Reid Haywood
Naismith Hewett Parker

I/C McVeigh Dawson Cunningham Jones

Emergencies Smith, COR, Sinkers

Did we get permission from the footy experts to do this Kirky?
I wouldn't want to upset them by having my own opinion and have the temerity to express it on a discussion forum of all places.

Its tricky right?!?!? Apparently the number of players I think of as being "best 22" is more than 22. As far as who's missing / depth the players who have played seniors who I can't fit in are:
Callum Sinclair
Dan Robinson
Dean Towers
Nick Newman
Ryley Stoddart
Jordan Dawson
Jordan Foote
Darcy Cameron
James Rose
Kieran Jack
Robbie Fox
Tom McCartin
Harry Marsh
Gary Rohan
Dan Hanneberry

That's obviously before delistings / trades, but also before we bring anybody in who takes a place in the starting 22. If we bring in Moore or Gaff or May, etc I'm now struggling to think who I would drop for them.

Stop stirring!!! ;)

Nice team... why is everyone playing Hewett off the bench? Am I missing something here? And in your case, Lloyd too... are you playing him on the wing or down back?

Hewett...only place to fit him.

Lloyd...Cunningham to take over Lloyd's role with free reign to use his kicking skills to our advantage. Lloyd on the wing in a pseudo Hanners type role. He's gotta earn them big bucks now.
