This post is exciting all of my senses

Likelihood of it actually happening would be slim - but I'd be surprised if SOS hasn't at least thrown it out there to GWS. Not much stopping anyone else offering the same and accepting less back, so it's possible our return would be significantly lower. Ideally we'd throw in a player that GWS wanted who was planning on leaving us anyway. Say, hypothetically, Macreadie (GWS Academy once upon a time) is open to a move and GWS can promise him game time.

Future first and Macreadie for 10 and 14.
GWS take Green with Pick 15 and late pick(s).
Trade pick 10 back for our future first.

Carlton get Pick 14 for Macreadie.
GWS get Macreadie and Pick 10 for Pick 14.
Both sides get a massive win by gaming the draft.

Not 100% sold we would even need to trade with Giants.

IF, we offer Coniglio a front ended loaded contract that SOS calculates that Giants almost certainly cannot afford to keep under salary cap and Coniglio decides he is willing to move if Giants cannot match to keep him, then no trade happens......We just get him...
I still not get my hopes up until I actually heard he is 100% coming but it is one scenario that very possibly could play out if we really super shrewd.
Giants have already stated they will not match a bid for Coniglio. They don't have the cap space.

Think we can shelve any talk of parting ways with Deluca.

Clearly rated highly internally and the bloke has come in and impressed straight away.

What more could he have possibly done to this point in time?

Will not happen. It’s a waste of time even talking about it.

The only question is whether he’s elevated to the senior list or kept on as a rookie.

Are we really going to delist someone like Kerr? A KPP we have put 3 years in to develop and has shown some promising signs? Would hope we stick with him for another year at least.
A various stages during this season, when due to injury, etc, we were missing Gov & Charlie in our forwArd line, I thought they may have given him a game, especially after he kicked 6 against Frankston. His papers maybe stamped though I'm afraid.

I love Deluca and the intensity he brings, but we’ll make another 7-8 changes and unfortunately he’s likely to be one of them. Can’t keep everyone on the list.

Who would you delist instead? He’s played 3 games in two years and hasn’t done much at VFL level. Also sits behind H, Charlie, McG, TDK and Levi.

Likely? No. Not even close.

We brought Deluca in less than 3 months ago and he’s already had an impact.

Why on earth would we get rid of him 6 months after recruiting him?

I don't understand your reasoning?

We had first choice of all previously listed players and state league players only 2 months ago, and we picked him. He's played senior footy already. It doesn't make any sense to cut him, just so we can have another pick in the rookie draft?

I think SOS needs to get creative with GWS they have 2 first round draft picks and possible a 3rd if Coniglio leaves and they have an Academy player Tom Green who is at least a top 10 pick. If GWS look what Sydney did last year Nick Blakely. We will need some 2nd round picks, So we need to look at players we can trade out for me that's some of our talls Casboult, Kerr, Macreadie and one of Marchbank or Plowman. Also possible swap future first round pick. We can also live trade 1 or 2 of the first round picks back to GWS after they have drafted Green.
Let's be honest. If we already had a Bolton/Papley/Gray on our list, Lebois wouldn't even be on the list this year.

If he's happy to wait, I don't see an issue with retaining him. Won't cost much and gives us some stability in the reserves.

Give it two years, and if TDK is playing predominantly in the ruck, and Casboult is in decline, Kerr could find himself at the front of the queue for injury/form cover.

Looking at someone like Tim O'Brien at Hawthorn - played 4 games in his first three seasons, and has averaged around 15 games a season since then. He hasn't been a first choice forward for them, but he's had opportunities to get games and is becoming a more consistent footballer now in his mid 20s.

If Kerr wants to chase opportunity elsewhere, happy to facilitate it, but some blokes know their level and are just happy to be on a list and playing football for a club they love. That could be a good thing for our list management moving forward.

Yes.

Behind McKay/Curnow/Cas/McGovern and probably even TDK next year. We also have medium marking targets in JSOS & Kennedy.

He wasn't even getting a game when 2 of the above first 4 were out injured, which shows how far back he is.

Yep, Kerr is depth for our depth players.

You would think Deluca stays on the Rookie list and Gibbons gets upgraded to the Senior list. That's seems far more likely than anything else Id suggest.

With Gibbons, I think it will depend entirely on who we can trade in, and list numbers.
If we only want to use 2 picks in the draft, he'll be elevated. If we use 3, he stays as a rookie.

Pretty sure other clubs were keen, we could probs trade him if we wanted.

He is like a mini Hamill, looks like he's gunna kill someone soon

In what sense has he had an impact?

Made his way into the senior side already despite arriving at the club with an injury.

Has already featured in the top 5 for pressure acts and tackles at least once. And has recorded a game high tackles I50 in one game.

All that despite limited TOG - he has spent the least time on the ground of all 44 players once (was second last by 2 mins in another), and has spent the least TOG out of all Carlton players in two of his three senior games.

He’s no star but has shown he could be a good solid role player. Someone who is picked to perform a particular task and does so without fanfare nor fuss. Teague has made mention of these role players in his press conferences.

I’m not sure what more Deluca could have done to this point in time.

So the theory is:

We trade GWS our future first for Picks 10 and 14.
On draft night, Green gets bid on at Pick 5, GWS match with Pick 15 and a third rounder.
Then we trade them back Pick 10 for our future first.

GWS get Green and Pick 10 instead of Green, pick 15 and a third rounder
We're up Pick 14 for helping them out.

Specific pieces can change a bit (ie. could be a future pick that we get instead of Pick 14), but it should pass the AFL checks and balances on draft night as GWS can easily claim that they want to overpay to get Pick 10 back due to a specific player being available. "We were happy to trade into the 2020 draft given we knew Green would attract a bid before our first picks, and Carlton were keen to do a deal. But when we saw Player X was still on the board at Pick 10 we just knew we had to get him on our list." AFL gives the tick of approval because live trades are exciting anyway and all that jazz.
AFL has already put rules in place to stop what Swans did last year, that loophole is now closed, we did well to dream it up and use it last year.

Very well

Imagine the look on the AFLs face while a blatant "against the spirit" manipulation of the rules is happening in slow motion and there is nothing they could do to stop it.
