I get that many of you folks are disappointed with the way the Papley & Martin stuff has played out, but IMHO I reckon it's a blessing in disguise, as the list isn't quite ready to switch in to top up mode yet.

There's a very promising young ruckman in this years draft, a small forward, and a couple of quality defenders, who are all tipped to be around both of your picks.

Stiff, but assume the club knows what they are doing. Hope he gets re-rookied.

This would suggest, that may be a possibility..

“He has taken up the opportunity to train with the Club during pre-season and we will provide him with all the support he needs to continue his playing career.”

I guess we have one free rookie spot now.

I actually kind of agree, I would have preferred Papley over pick 9, but it isn't the end the end of the world either.

As for pick 9, I can't see us using it on Luke Jackson, since we seem to rate TDK as our ruck of the future going forward, and the only defender I'd be keen on in Lachie Ash, but I'd be surprised if he made it to our pick.

Deluca a bit stiff.

To be honest I don't think he showed overly much. He was okay at senior level but nothing to show he could be a long term player.

Just very stiff to ask a bloke to drop everything. Uproot his life. Move to the otherside of the country.. only to chop him at the end of the year.

Maybe these mid season picks should be a guaranteed 18 month contract?

Yeah, it's kind of odd really....not sure why he would still be training with the club

Sounds like the club may have an eye on re-listing him depending on who is available in the ND and RD. I thought he could have been a good foot soldier in the midfield next season....definitely aint a specialist forward where they played him this year.

$50K contract and if not renewed they get a further $20K.

I have been thinking for a while and I reckon that each team should have a seconds team who plays curtain raisers.

Total list size should be 55 (2.5 teams).

Players who can't make the seconds team can play in an affiliate VFL size.

The last 11 can be rookies if you like, only able to play AFL as LTI replacements.

Would certainly give a lot more second tier guns a chance to make the breakthrough

Seemingly the more that doesn't come our way, the luckier we happen to be: Tomlinson, Shiel, Papley etc :)
Papley wasn't to be this time around but people are fooling themselves if they feel that we're better off without him.

So 11 off the list to date (Bugg included which shouldn't really come into play) and now only Lang left hanging.
I still feel we cut off too many too soon. We must be confident in sizing-up with whoever we take via DFA's and drafts. We'll see.

Will be interesting to see how we go about things, as it does appear there’s a plan to fill the spots as desired (minus 2 targets in Coniglio & Papley already).

34 senior (35 with Martin, 36 with Newnes, 37 if we end up going for Sam Gray)
3 rookies

Will we keep a spot again for either supplementary draft > mid-season (may have learnt from that one)?
