Yeah they did. If we can draft a better small forward than papely with pick 8 then we should do it.
Small forward is basically the only difference between us and brisbane. They have cameron, mccarthy, rayner and sometimes zorko while our best is cuningham who plays once every ice age.
Bit more to it than that, Brisbane has a bit more of a even spread of ball winners, at least in terms of consistency.

Nah Papley the better prospect right now than Cameron in his last year at Adelaide...Papley far more consistent and less injuries. Tougher and brings leadership qualities.
Cameron has really elevated his game since joining Brisbane.
I'd be hoping in a David Teague led Carlton, guys like Papley and even Sam Gray could improve their games with us.

We could just use our extra Cap space to extend and front load Cripps contract so we will have more money later for other signings
On that front, if we exit this trade period without having acquired a high price player or two I would look out for a lot of "contract extensions" which will really be renegotiations. Eg. Harry, stick around for 2 years longer and we'll give you an extra million right now. It'll all be shuffling money forwards to soak up the cap and again free up next year and beyond space to try our hand again.
Yup that’s the only smart option available, should we cone out of trade period empty handed.

I must admit, whilst i'm an unabashed fan of what SOS and the list mgmt team have/are doing I'll be annoyed if we miss on Martin because of a lowball offer. If what we're led to believe his preference is Carlton then we should be just getting it done. When a young talent (that fits our needs) wants to come on board we shouldn't be too smug. He's known to be an extremely hard & committed trainer and with the polish of Andrew Russell i think Jack could be a real star.

Agree 100% Crippa, although I also trust that SOS has a 'grand plan' in place, where Martin would be one piece in the puzzle.
If we over commit on one, it may affect other deals along the way.....I may be completely wrong, but I assume that's why we would place limits on any offer.

The more time goes on the more I want Martin. He has his weaknesses but god it’s hard to find talent and class like he has.
