I'd like to think we're pragmatic enough not to find ourselves in this situation.
Teague should retain his friendship with Betts, but should not interfere in List Management.
If there is any semblance of an issue surfacing, Lloyd has to step in and make the judgement call.
No need at all for SOS and Teague to be engaged in any debate about players without Lloyd involved. Don't become a Ratten, Teague.

Purple is basing this solely on that off hand comment (made by Morris?) about a 'power struggle'.

I think he's putting less and less effort into these (if that's even possible), blatantly phoned in the Freo one this week

Absolute non-issue.

Journos love to fabricate a "power struggle" - it's a no-win situation for the club, and a win-win situation for the media. Whichever decision gets made they can craft a narrative about one department/individual winning out over another.

Realistically, this would be a regular occurrence in footy clubs. List management team rate a player a certain way, a coach with personal experience working with the player has their own anecdotal insight/opinion. Important that in these cases both parties share information and make their case, and see which one comes around. At the end of the day, the list management team will have the final say - if trading in Betts ruins other plans in any way they won't do it.

We went after Bugg, who decided to retire after a couple of training sessions. Fasolo never worked out. Eddie is a no brainer.
Guaranteed to kick at least 30 goals, he will be live wire in the forward line and the experience he will pass onto the younger guys will be invaluable. Having to deal with Mckay, Curnow and Eddie is going to cause a lot of opposition coaches grief.

Means they can turn what is effectively a normal club list management/strategy discussion/decision into a heated scenario with a defined winner and loser, guaranteeing further media content down the track where they can refer back to said power struggle

Reckon there's a power struggle? I think more likely Teague, SOS, Agresta and whoever sitting around at Ikon Park, having a coffee, reviewing some lists, discussing "what do we reckon about Betts?" These aren't children, they're professionals, I'm sure it's a discussion, even if opinions vary. Sounds exciting that there might be fireworks and blazing rows and "it's him or me!" ultimatums, but I bet the reality is far more low-key.

If TDK is the ruck of the future as suggested and we have retained Phillips and the steady hand back up, why are we pursuing Darcy Cameron?

Is anyone else concerned about Martin's inconsistency?

Has been this way his whole career. Understand the allure but is it something we're prepared to put up with over a season?

Hard to judge really, the bloke wanted out last year and a trade was blocked, so he has obviously been unhappy at work, for some people this comes out in their performance or application. If I were judging him I would ignore this season all together.
He is a solid player who has some really good attributes, you would hope with a little more consistency and if he was happier, then that would come through in his performance.

I find Martin hard to judge. There's something about the way he moves that makes him look really dangerous, which IMO is a big part of why he was so highly rated (rather than being based on his actual output). It also means opponents can't help but beeline rather than playing the ball - which works against him, but it does help the teammates around him

If we end up with Bulter, Gray and Betts I would call that a win. All are low cost and high reward like Newman was last year. We also get to keep pick 8 and bring in more young talent. I would still like us to pick up Elliott as a free agent. What happen to Bonar there was a lot of talk about him looking to get out of GWS earlier in the year.

The ruck we take in the draft this year

Doubt they'd be ready to take on full ruck duties in 2021 if TDK went down with an LTI.

2019 - Kreuzer > Phillips > Lobbe > TDK
2020 - Kreuzer > Cameron / Phillips > TDK > 18yo
2021* - TDK > Cameron > ???? > 19yo

*Could potentially slot in a year of Cameron > TDK > 19yo if Cameron's form is good and TDK needs more physical development.

I imagine that's the kind of transition we're looking at.
