We need speed in the back half of the ground. Simmo is still going strong as he offers one of the only run and carry options out of there. Newman is okay for pace but not quick. A line breaker would be good.

We need more speed all over the ground, although since the rebuild started, has change for the better comparing it to our 2014 squad

I think the fwd line is mobile enough, lacking the pressure smalls though. Midfield with Dow and Fisher is okay speed wise, though they both haven't made the big jump to consistent output yet. Defence is where it is most notably lacking.

I agree speed/run and carry in the backline is a priority, I would target the likes of Zac Wiiliams, Zac Jones

Dow has burst, Fisher zip, Cuners, both

LOB, Walsh add the Gaff running characteristics

2-3 more of the above in that best 22 is what I would prefer

Speed isn't the issue for me. We have plenty. The problem is disposal at speed (and in general) and has been for a long time through succesive coaches.
Teague has adressed this and to immediate beneficial effect. Some more pace won't hurt of course however there is nothing worse in football at present than a fast player that suddenly stops because there is not a single player ahead of him. It makes the game farcical.

^^football can be so much better when targets are hit. The flow-on effect with players pace, controlling the pill & releasing pressure from the resultant turnovers is gold.
Same for kicking straight for goal.
I’m still waiting for that elusive skills coach that get all our players into the elite category with our disposals.

Diesel Williams?

Everything looks better when the skills are there - Players become faster, seem smarter, work harder etc etc
Skills are poorer for the dilution of talent and for having an 18 a team competition. Bring it to 16 a side and watch how much more things open up.

I feel we need speed, but then again it may just be skills.
One won't ever get everything they want but the best any club can do is to build a team that play as one.

If North Melbourne and Saint Kilda folded, would it make less sound than a tree falling in the woods?

Diesel Williams?
Yep, happy that Diesel is back & assisting where he can.

Ideally the mechanics & ball placement/weighting could be tailored to each player and then even a little hypnotics for confidence. Get everyone self-assured with ball in hand, just like giving it to Nathan Buckley (or even Diesel) on every possession.

It was easy to miss but it was mentioned in the HUN yesterday that the club is negotiating to extend Stocker's contract but they have been unable to agree yet.
I think money is the issue.

Would be an interesting negotiation.

No one has a real idea of what he will be producing in years 3 & 4.

He could be struggling to break into the first and be worth $100k. Or he could be getting 22 touches and 5 clearances a game and be worth $500k.

I guess you just take a stab in the middle and pay him $250-300k based on some general projection of a 21-22yo's output and worth.

All the dons supporters are in full melts asking to trade Merrett - Would anyone see a way we could land him and remain in the race for Papley and Martin? Feel like we'd have to give up Kennedy in a trade

Merrett - Future First, Kennedy and 3rd rounder
Papley - Pick 8
Martin - Future 2nd

might be a bit piss weak at times but I feel like he gets thrown around a fair bit due to being the dons most damaging mid, next to Cripps he'd hardly get a finger on him
far better user than Crouch or Wines and gives us some speed and tackles well

cant see it happening for multiple reasons but who knows how many heads will roll after thursday nights belting, they are clearly way off it with a tight cap as it is

I must admit, I am surprised at the amount of acceptance around 'our need for leg-speed on the outside' being one of if not our biggest need at the moment. Do we really need it THAT badly? I for one, am none-too-excited to hear us being linked to Jack Martin. Are we not bullish on Fisher's, SPS's and Cuningham's development?

I would rather see us target a B+, two-way mid who is a footballer first and foremost. A clean, tough, good user who can play a couple of different roles for the team but doesn't have a Coniglio price tag. Think Mitch Duncan, Kane Lambert type.

For mine, this should be our #1 priority and should be a guy who is 22-27 yo. From then on, I would say our priorities are;

small forward(s)
developing ruck(s)
outside runner(s)
lock down small defender

Am I on drugs?

Lol Merrett is Essendon’s best and for their supporters to want him out is hilarious. I’d take him in a heartbeat for the right price.

Let’s see if that remains the case in a few weeks once the dust has settled.

Wouldn’t have thought there’ll be too many who still think that’s a good idea. He’s a gun.

Sounds like Papley will be doable, hard work yes, but doable.
Butler should be fairly painless to obtain.
Reportedly some posturing re Betts but ultimately attainable at very little cost.

Add these 3 players, a fit Cuningham and possibly Martin to Curnow McGovern McKay and a roaming Silvagni and you have the makings of a very very dangerous forward line.

4 or 5 times last night, I saw Brisbane fight hard to get a shot on goal, mostly easy, miss and see Richmond stroll up the other end and nail the shot.

It’s soul destroying as a supporter when your team is on the end of these.

The only reason i come onto this board is due to having so many friends that support your club and go to alot of carlton games as well as some pre season training sessions and probably know your list almost as much as the Richmond list. Whilst there are alot of things i do read here from supporters that are just not true or wrong i tend to not post about it and let it fly over so as to not get into conflict.

There are also a number of posters here that give me crap on this board and are all tuff and mighty but when i come acrosss them either on the main board or even when they venture over to the richmond board are then all of a sudden extremely polite and fluffy but i suppose thats how it goes.

I genuinely dont hate Carlton any more because i actually want my very good friends to see there team do well and experience success as we have done, We all convince our kids to follow our team and make sure they do and i know exactly what it feels like for your kids to follow your team and have nothing to show for it and you do feel crap about being the reason for this. I have 2 kids 30 & 23 and both are educated and intelligent girls who have double degree's and 1 is a lawyer whilst the other is in finance. But i see my friends younger kids that are 17-25 who say things like i only support carlton because i have to for Dad now that feels crap so i do genuinely want you guys to do well (except against us)

There are just 2 other teams boards i visit GC & Doggies sometimes and only 3 teams now i truly hate Adelaide,Lions,Pies and couldnt care if they finished up tomorrow. Any way thats me
