Even if not a superstar, a ruckman has to bring SOMETHING. Whether it's contested marking (McEvoy), clearance work (Marshall), great tap work (Goldstein) or physical presence (Mumford).

If Pittonet as a backup can bring some hard-hitting grunt work, that sounds OK to me.

Personally watching Phillips in the AFL and VFL I am more than happy to try someone else, because expecting anything more of Phillips at this point is insanity.

To me he just never covered the ground and against the premier ruckman that isn't an option.

Watching Philips and Lobbe get smashed by Werribee's ruckman was enough for me.

Here is my last day of the trade period guess

Pittonet for pick 72

Phillips for pick 65

Martin and a 2020 2nd GC for our 2020 1st

Papley and pick 44 for pick 9

My left field trade Bonar and Flynn for our 2020 2nd (there is question marks on Pittonet and with Flynn we give us another option plus we lose Phillips and Lobbe and now add 2 younger rucks)

Leave us with picks 43, 44, 48 & 65

We were way too single-minded; when it became obvious that the trades weren't going to happen, we should have changed tack. If it basically wasn't in motion the night before, it wasn't going to happen, that's been the pattern. Having said that, I'm happy to go to the draft and to have the first three rounds of next year's picks intact. I'd try to trade pick 9 for multiples.

SOS has done great work with our list up to this point. But there's a pretty big body of evidence now to suggest he simply doesn't recognize the importance of small forwards in this era and that's just unacceptable.

We started the trade period with no small forwards and we ended up with 33yo betts and that's only because teague had to force it. Maybe papely was too hard to get done and didn't want to pay overs, fair enough. What about butler?

Can't wait for another season of dow and fisher wasting away as makeshift small forwards...

Surely we can draft someone good with pick 9.

If we walk away with a young gun small forward, Betts and Martin then that is somewhat of a small win.

Get Papley next year. Reckon he will be disappointed and pissed with Sydney.

Full set of picks next year. We have to go well and have a strong season and attract players to us.

There weren't a lot of good small forwards available and we went after one who was contracted and one where the club didn't care about losing him for nothing.

I would think we have a huge amount of cap space. Martin just has to put that massive price on himself and we get him via the PSD I would assume. That game is well and truly not over yet.

Swans also not chasing Daniher seriously. A fair bit of WTF towards them. They were trying to get a contracted key forward from Essendon and wouldn't offer pick 5.

I don't think we can blame us here, some unbelievable stuff has gone on here blocking our trades.

Can't blame SOS for the Papley deal not happening. It was only ever a chance if Daniher went north, and we all know what * are like to deal with.

Martin in the PSD is a lot better than 2020:1 + 2020:2. Happy with that.

I think this is fair criticism. We may have been too focused and/or over-confident of making the Papley deal happen. So hard to understand the dynamics without inside knowledge - but you wonder if we could've set a deadline of midday monday for the deals and once that passed chased other options.

The relationships with Papley and Martin would've been built over months.

I wonder how much "Welcome to Carlton Jack and Tom" propaganda is currently being shredded.

Butler for a late pick would've been handy. Bonar a steal for a future 4th.

Deluca probably just got himself another year.

Was surprised we didn't go after Bonar with pick #43.

Must have our eye on someone around that point in the draft.
