Walsh and Setters will line up Round 1 v Tiges. Bank it.

They'll both be in my Consensus 22 votes, that's for sure.

They are two shortest odds on sportsbet for rising star also.

I was hoping to get Setterfield in the 30s

Yes.

But many would have had the benefit of continuous training blocks and development

Still. If he's fit and firing now, and gets a full 4-month preseason in, plus a couple of JLT games, I don't see why he'd need to come back through the VFL. Barring setbacks, he should be in the frame, and selection should be based on the best available players for round one. If he needs a spell after a few games because he can't string them together, so be it.

I would love it to be Stocker!!
Wouldn't surprise for Stock to play 10+ games after seeing what LOB and Dow did in 2018. But can't see him being 'sexy' enough so if it came down to Setters, Walsh or a few others (Rankine, JL) - I'd say he'll be pushed back in the voting.

Yes, but after missing so much football (and having only played 12 games) he is less of a chance of being best available

And the future ones:
1. Setterfield will be better than shiel
2. Stocker will be better than Walsh
3. Polson will be en elite small forward
4. We have so much depth
5. Murphy will be lucky to get an AFL game this year

etc etc etc. Im sure in 5 years you will look back at a lot of comments on players and laugh as well
If the kids come on I wouldn't be surprised if Murphy gets edged out sometime next season.

Murphy is completely fine and will be outstanding as long as he is not asked to perform roles his body can no longer handle. With the depth now in place that should be the case and we’ll see the best of what he still has to offer. I’m really looking forward to seeing what he adds to the team next year.

And while I’m of the belief that the whole ‘captaincy is a burden’ is overblown, in his specific case I’m sure he’d be Glad in some ways to take a step back in a formal sense and just get himself right to contribute each week.

Respectfully disagree with the not a natural footballer comment, imo he’s the opposite. When he gets an injury free run at it he’ll improve. Cuningham is not front of mind for best 22 with most supporters but when it clicks he’ll be a vital cog in the machine.

I did say that if it all clicks, he will be a handy player, not being a natural footballer isn’t a slight on him, one could argue that Fyfe is more athlete then footballer, he’s still a gun.

I think the advantage of not having the captaincy is less meetings, less press conferences more time to focus on your own game and more time to enjoy his young family. I think it will result in a happier more relaxed player and that has to be a good thing.

"As long as he is not asked to perform roles his body can no longer handle." With Cripps, E Curnow, Kennedy & Setterfield on the inside with the like of Dow and Stocker chipping in Murphy will have to do a lot less bash and crash and just focus on running his opponent into the ground.

Personally, I really think Murph will flourish without the Captaincy pressure. If he can get himself cherry ripe for 2019, he could get back to his AA best and be in our top 3 players.

He is 32 and injury prone, I think this is unlikely

I Hope he can be effective as a small forward or wing

by 2020 he should be the 8th or 9th in line for the a spot in the square, this is great for the club
