To be fair, we've said similar for the last few years but we still continue to get smashed through the middle.

I'll wait for it to happen before looking too far ahead. There's every chance multiple players aren't able to do pre-seasons and we are back at square 1.

I mean, it'll happen at some point. Deluca will be handy, but the young mids will still be < 22.

If we wants next year to be any different, Cuningham and Deluca need to be full time midfielders at 23 and 24 years old respectively.

Walsh will likely be outstanding, but the output of the rest is speculative, at best.

Spot on gbatman our thinking aligns perfectly on time frame and the rest. Just been looking at Cunningtons numbers on the afl site he is 2nd or 3rd to Cripps in Clearances, Contested possessions, Possesions, Centre Clearances and Stoppage Clearances the only area he is down is in tackles. They are Ranked 8&9 in the AFL.
Carey just said on talking footy no player should be off the table at North, he is 27 so I think our pick in the first round from Adelaide and maybe something else should get it done.
Imagine Cripps and Cunnington on the inside feeding out to the speedsters on the outside wowee that would make a massive difference to our team and our win/loss rate, those 2 at centre clearances late in games forget about losing the close ones the oppo would never get the ball.

The club needs to get on the front foot and go hard at Cunnington now until the end of the year.

It’s that type we desperately need. Would make a huge difference. I’ve said before we need a Ward type. Cunnington fits the bill. Any others?

Deluca will play seniors during the second half the season, with the view of potentially promoting him and Gibbo to the senior list to fulfill the criteria of the ND.

If we trade away anything of value during the trade period to bring in some a-grade talent, we may only be left with 4th/5th round picks.

Deluca is classed as a rookie as is Gibbons. If they both prove themselves I can see them being upgraded in place of using draft picks

Correct Soap, they'd be rookie promotions, so would fulfill the criteria as draft picks in the ND.
It would also clear space on the rookie list to re-rookie players from the senior list.

Cripps is the gun
Cunnington would make a massive difference to our contested ball
Dow Cuningham Fisher Setterfield will improve a lot
Walsh & Stocker are 2 that will improve quickly
Deluca is mature and knows the AFL
Kennedy O’Brien SPS as well

Add a Jong and even a Townsend as well then we can compete harder for longer. That is the difference

Given where we are would anyone trade our first round pick (12?) for Cunnington and maybe a Sam Wright or a late pick? I know I would

Others we should look at are

Coniglio Ellis Lester Tomlinson & Cuningham. All FAs

Touk Miller, Jack Martin, Tom Papley as mature players to trade for.

Jong, Townsend as cheap options.

And maybe Joe Atley, Willam Drew, Will Brodie as young players that are ready to step up.

Then there are State League players. A Jye Bolton would be good and I like Mason Blakey

I wouldn't waste precious neurons and synaptic activity on the thought of Cunnington. Guy is a gun and North won't trade him.

All those young guys will still be skinny and thrown aside by senior midfielders apart from Cuningham and Stocker, which is the main issue.

Let’s look at our players that are in there 4th year this year, McKay, Weitering, Curnow, Silvagni and Cunningham all of whom have become genuine first 22 AFL players this year.
Next year we have Sam Petrevski-Seton, Zac Fisher, McReadie, Polson, Williamson, Kerr and LeBois coming into there 4th years, now obviously not all of these are going to be ready but SPS, Fisher, Williamson, Kerr I think will step up next year, maybe McReadie and Polson and LeBois probably played his best game for us on the weekend and if he can stay fit I think he has some X factor. Point is it takes at least 4 years to produce a regular AFL player we are only just getting our first crop this year, so how can anyone be making judgments on us at this stage.

100%. What a lot of our young players are doing especially in such a poor side is impressive. Walsh & Stocker have really impressed me this year and you haven’t included Setterfield who is not only young but coming off an acl. Can play

They will all be better next year plus will have the help

Don’t forget Docherty [emoji6]

Hell Soap if they will take 12 for Cunnington I would jump on it, I was thinking we might have to give something else.
Cunnington will be 29 next season.
In June next year.

If North were going to trade out some players, I'd be looking at Trent Dumont, Shaun Atley and Jed Anderson.

Serviceable players that won't cost an arm and a leg.

Use our first round draft pick on the best available player in the national draft.

I wouldn’t be writing off Owies Cottrell Goddard BSOS LeBois Schumacher Lang Garlett or even Finbar yet. I’ve seen some positive signs. If 2-3 of them step up even better.

As I mentioned the other day I think we should have a discussion with Jack Trengove and see where he thinks he’s at, still only 27 and talent doesn’t disappear, his sanfl numbers are right up there with the best, while it’s not the AFL he obviously can still play now that his body is right, Port have a surplus of inside mids so don’t need him, so why not have a chat.

Averaging 6.3 tackles and 7 clearances so he has hardness.

I agree I like what I’ve seen of Cottrell, Owies gets better by the week, Finbar is raw but has a crack not unlike Lynch from Adelaide, Goddard has been best nearly every week and is underrated, Schumacher will make it of that I have no doubt.

I really like Owies and Cottrell.

Owies could be our best small forward by the start of the 2020 season. He's improving at a rapid rate of knots.

Cottrell is a player. He's tough and runs all day. Relatively quick off the mark too. He'll be one to watch with a full preseason in 2020.
