Another preseason with Russell, the addition of a couple of best22 players and a healthy list then lets see what can happen under Teaguey...

Agree. I can't tell you how unfit and under developed this young group this. Think of any player we have drafted since the start of the rebuild and they all have massive improvement in them. Plus they are all growing together. That is what is exciting.

You could say that in one way we're coming from such a long way back in regards to high performance/fitness we're basically starting from scratch with Russell only just arriving last year, there will be huge steps over the preseason ..

2020

B: Docherty Jones Marchbank
HB: SPS Weitering Williamson (Newman Schumacher Plowman Goddard)

Foll: Kruezer Curnow Walsh
C: Setterfield Cripps O'Brien (Dow Stocker Kennedy Gibbons)

HF: Cuningham McKay Fisher
F: McGovern Charlie Murphy (Jack TDK Casboult DeLuca)

If that's our best 30 based on what we have NOW it has significant improvement and upside. It's huge!!! I haven't even included improvement in Owies Cottrell Finbar BSOS Macreadie etc and even Garlett Fasolo or Lang

I'm not even including Simpson & Thomas

Add Jack Martin (who I believe is a perfect fit for what we have) Darcy Cameron Ryan Lester & Liam Baker at worst and that is an impressive list.

I'm so looking forward to the trade period/trade period and 2020.

Massive. The plans in place are mind blowing. Russell has used this season to get the players ready for the pre season. I'm sure most don't understand how far behind we have been

I'd be pi**ed off if we sign Lyon or Voss as coach too but I don't expect it would worry the club too much and it certainly would not stop me being True Blue.

I want a coach that will get the best out of the players. We have the talent and a group of potential elite and top end players. We need to play to our strengths and back this group in. Let them play. I would hate someone to bring in a defensive mindset.

It's why I'm warming towards Teague with the right support

In no way am I doubting Russell but I’d love to know if we have ever had in the history of this forum someone bring up Hawthorn’s superior fitness and strength before.
No doubt they are well known for their ability to manage and possibly prevent injuries but I’m not expecting miracles with anything else. Also if players are on the park more they’ll also be obviously fitter so that is where he can probably help us the most, plus a young group is only ever going to improve.

Personally the only side I watch and think geez they look strong, powerful and fit are Richmond.

Geelong and West Coast are generally pretty well drilled as well.

I'm in the attacking style coach corner myself still doesn't mean the players can't be expected to not apply the necessary pressure required throughout the game itself, make the most of what your list has and take the game on.
It will bring the fans in numbers through the gates every week...

Hawks Cats Swans Tigers have been the best and keeping players on the park and getting the best out of them. I believe it is the most underrated part of the AFL. I have seen what Russell is doing and it is mind blowing. It will be the difference for us

Agree. We need to work both ways but when we have it we have the talent to carve up the opposition. That will be our advantage

I think it’s the most underrated thing in football. Brisbane atm is a prime example.
No doubt it takes abit of luck but minimising injuries is one of the most important things for any side.

Yep, bet the club would rather appease the Carlton fans than do what it thought was best for success of the team.
Trading away young developing players is a terrible idea. The only time it should be done is if a) they ask to go home, or b) there is a problem that no one knows about yet like troy menzel.

If we wanted to trade those players away for high end talent, then we were far better off doing in when they were just draft picks. We'd get 100 x more value trading pick 3 or pick 5 than we would for trading dow and sps. Trading any of them now when we've done the hard yards and the players are just starting to realise their potential is complete lunacy.

It's only a terrible idea in your opinion and, I concede, a number of other regular posters here.

I am not saying that the club will, or even should, trade one of our draftees but, in my view, what would be a terrible action is if the Club refused to consider it as a option if a benefit can be gained.

When the trade period starts if our club is not prepared to examine every, and I mean every, avenue to improve the team then it is derelict in it's duty to the supporter base.

From my perspective the sooner this club gets back to the finals powerhouse, that I've supported for more years than I can remember, the better. And I don't give a flying fig what they do with players to do that. I have always followed the CFC first, the players are only a secondary following and I've never lost any sleep if if one of my favoured players is moved on.

Okay.

But I'm not sure you understand the trade value of our players.

Unestablished talent has minimal value at the trade table, so offering them up is pointless and detracts more from our list than can be added to it.

Look, I don't have to understand and I don't care what the trade value of a player is. That is the domain of, not just our list managers, but also those who we may wish to deal with.

All I've been trying to say is that trading out one or more of our players to get someone who ticks a box with us has to be an option for our list management team and few on this board are prepared to recognise this. Too many think we'll change the world by just using draft picks and FA and totally dismiss the other option because "they're all going to be guns".

Put simply I am just expecting a wholistic approach on the trade table. Whether we can trade players or not is academic as long as all avenues are examined.

I hope so. If we are our best chance is hoping GWS want to trade out of this years first round to save picks getting matched on Green and have an extra pick next season.
Eg trade our future first and maybe our two thirds (points for them to match a bid or at least mid level picks for them, possibly even turn those into a mid second for them)
For Bonar and a first ~14 this season. Then on trade that pick for someone like Martin or whoever.
Something like that is the only way I could see us justifying the price he will cost. They won’t move him on unless they are getting something that really helps them out of it.

We have absolutely no need for someone like Bonar right now
