you wonder if he might have made a little difference for pickett - can't hold a bloke's hand in the world of professional sport but the club initially believed the role was important enough to be created - why wasn't walker replaced then?

Think Josh Hill from WCE was attempting to get into that development space..additional role to the NB’s placement?

He was....by Kung fu panda.....that’s who Pickett was modelling himself on.

From our best 22 atm i think there are 4 players to be replaced in the next year or two.
Simpson , Kruezer , Curnow and Murphy.
De Konning will be groomed to replace Kruezer but with Lobbe (age) and Phillips (body) also not part of the future we will need to add to our ruck department going forward.
Curnow/Murphy replacement(s) were taken care of this year in Stocker and Walsh and hopefully Cuningham can establish himself but of course more midfield additions will be added each year.
A Simpson replacement (small defender) will be needed.
Docherty , Newman , Schumacher , Williamson are all medium defenders , could Polson be groomed for the position with his pressure/tackling and pace ?
We also need a dynamic/pressure small forward.
Prefer Pickett on a wing or hf if/when he gets fully into shape.
LeBois and Garlett are on the books but would like to add further class here going forward.
List starting to take good shape now , just need to add a few pieces along the way.

It'll be a shame when Ed doesn't make best 22, but given there'll always be injuries I can't see him not playing a substantial amount of footy over the next 2-3 years. It does mean that our list is getting somewhere though. Will be interesting to see how they use Murphy over the next couple of years given the amount of shiny new contested mids we've acquired.

Couldn't agree more here. A genuine dominant ruckman would have made as much of a difference to our midfield as Shiel. Pity we couldn't snag Lycett and Pruess' decision to go to the Demons was a strange one.

2019 may prove to be an important year for Cuningham. I reckon most of his issues are between the ears, which is an area where Russell excels.

A Simpson replacement (small defender) will be needed. Docherty, Newman, Schumacher, Williamson are all medium defenders, could Polson be groomed for the position with his pressure/tackling and pace?
Polson maybe, and I do emphasise the word "maybe", marginally quicker Cripps, Kennedy and/or Setterfield, but that's all. Small, quick forwards will run rings around Polson.

We also need a dynamic/pressure small forward.
Garlett is the man, but will he step up??? He's the one best credentialed to take over Wright's role and potentially be better at it. Needs to present up at the ball carrier, get front and square of contested marking contests, apply defensive pressure and show he can find his own ball regularly. Certainly has that bit of magic, creativity and flair the role requires, but will he have enough endurance and the desire to make it happen consistently. Garlett is one who might surprise at odds, but at this stage I don't have him in my best 22.

Prefer Pickett on a wing or hf if/when he gets fully into shape.
Don't see it happening Red Bull. Between Bolton, Teague, Lloyd, Russell, SOS, Liddle and Judd they've decided to Break glass in case of Emergency and flip the switch. They're are past the point of firing a warning shot across his bow, they've launched a tomahawk missile up his arse. He's coming from a extraordinarily long way back against bunch of much hungrier, more professional kids who exhibit greater desire and want it more. It's not just that he's behind physically, he's also behind mentally.

LeBois and Garlett are on the books but would like to add further class here going forward.
Can't argue with that.

We need at least a couple of rucks. Another 3-4 mids. Would love another mid-sized defender with speed who can really launch the ball and a couple of small forwards. It is getting there though and we have small amount of coverage for injuries.

I 100% agree with all of your points, I could never articulate it that well.
On Garlett 2018 was his first year back in the system so he lacked AFL standard conditioning and he had injuries as well. If I don’t see substantial improvement in 2019 I’ll be concerned for his place on the list.

Murphy a bit of wing, but mainly HFF. Will carve teams up.

What? Polson is quick.

Yup we also need to sort out Phillips, Levi, Lobb & Kerr as some will be OOC end 2019, not all can remain, also we can’t carry Pickett, Garlett , Lang, Polson, Lang and Cuningham more than aother couple of seasons they must begin to show some signs of better development and contribution to the team.

Yea it is burps need to sort out Phillips, Levi, Lobb & Kerr as some will be OOC end 2919 not all can remain and on the other end of the scale we can’t carry Pickett, Garlett , Lang, Polson, Lang and Cuningham more than a couple of seasons longer they must begin to show some signs of better development and contribution to the team.
I know Simmo is ageless but a 900 year contract extension is over the top.

The list is starting to look in a lot better shape but I wouldn't be surprised if any of Lobbe, Cuningham, Pickett, Le Bois, Goddard, Bugg, Thomas, Simpson, Phillips, Kerr or Lang were delisted next year. Obviously they won't all go but I'm still expecting about 8 changes.

You’ve really got it in for Lang, Lang don’t you...?
All bar Polson contracted til the end of 2019 (nothing concrete on Lang but assuming 2yrs), so decisions will be made on their performances this season.

Doing my own list analysis using the Champion Data model for classifying players. List looks pretty well covered in all areas. Next year probably need to look at our rucks but apart from that we've got good depth to play through the middle and the high HFF line. This is my take of the US style depth chart with the top player in each category the 1st choice in the area.

In terms of picking a 22 any given week for me it's 3-3-1-3-3-9 in terms of good balance. Could potentially go in with 10 of the listed midfielders and go 1 lighter in GF or KPD depending on matchups.

I like this but we wont be going in with 2 KPDs. More likely Bolts will play 7-12 KPDs

Disagree IMHO, Bugg, Newman will do well, also Fasolo and McGovern smart additions their mature bodies will support our youngsters and help reduce the pressure off Thomas, Simpson and Murphy. We’ll be a more aggressive and assertive goals scoring team.

I like the concept, but if you are adding JSOS to GF (which I agree with), you should be adding Plowman and Marchbank as GD, as they are not genuine KPD's and generally better suited to 3rd tall/medium forwards. That would change your split from 3-3-1-3-3-9 to 2-3-1-4-3-9

Do we go hard at Grundy rather than a mid next year? (I think it's next year he is ooc)

The average number across the league in the past 5 years is over 9 changes per team. Given the movement in the last 3 years, I am expecting at least that with our list changes at the end of next year
