I don't know of any other instances where the CEO of a business sits on the board of a competing business or related entity. Surely it isn't too difficult to grasp that it is a huge conflict of interest.

PAFC is not in competition with McGuire Media.

Technically correct but McGuire Media, Collingwood FC and Eddie McGuire are closely related entities.

Can you see McGuire Media making a decision that produces a brilliant financial result for McGuire Media but s**t house result for Collingwood FC, whilst Eddie is chairman of the board for both entities??

Still not in competition with the PAFC

If CFC wasn’t non profit it might be an issue for Eddie with the ACCC?

I would put it another way, CFC and McM are only connected by Eddie.

In your scenario, if it could be proved that McM made a decision against its shareholders' interests, due to Eddie's role at CFC, then HE would have a massive COI issue to deal with.

Eddie is powerful, but he isn't that powerful.

McGuire Media is in direct competition with PAFC in the media industry.

as far as ‘is it ok that cardone blah blah’. On paper? Yes, same as its ‘ok’ that News Ltd whispers right wing bias and mistruth into the ears of every boomer - its legal, its being allowed, and no its not a good thing

Cordone’s is the sort of thing members of the PAFC should bring up with the board they elect

That's the crux of it - it's the sports industry so the ACCC don't give a stuff.

News Corp had full veto power over the NRL and they gave TV rights to Fox Sports then owned 50% Murdoch and 50% Packer and rejected a higher bid by Stokes C7 cable sports station that was only on Optus at the time. The ACCC didn't want to touch it. It's partly why Stokes ended up in court about it and suing everyone for about 5 years.

Anyway any legal conflict of interest is with Cardone not Eddie.

Given the shareholders are Eddie and his brother Frank, who is bringing the legal action?

The afl audit will be even more embarrassing for us

Considering the (non) performance off field and off field of the PAFC in recent years, in a numerical sense it's rather indicative of exactly where members/supporters believe the club is at.

Not bad - not good, just mediocre.

It will be of interest to see what is the actual dollar value of membership which is the genuine test.
