Knew Redden would be cited. Surprised it was only a 1k fine with the similar tackles this year.

So a chest only magically becomes someone's throat if Cunners is involved.

We all know how renouned the consistency of the MRP is.
Either way they've played themselves. He should have been suspended, not fined for punching earlier in the year then this wouldn't be an issue.

KB's Take | I am concerned for Cotchin
By Kevin Bartlett

All Richmond fans and supporters should be worried and edgy waiting for the MRP decision regarding skipper Trent Cotchin’s hit on Dylan Shiel.

Since the game, I’ve watched it from all angles and videos available, and I am concerned under league rules that Cotchin didn’t have his arms outstretched towards the ball when he hit Shiel in the head with his shoulder.

Cotchin’s right arm was tucked in when contact was made.

This is going to be a line ball decision. In what part the consequences of finding Cotchin guilty will play on the minds of the MRP is unknown.

A careless finding means the captain misses the Grand Final before tribunal or appeal challeng
Tiger fans should be buoyed by the comments of former AFL boss Adrian Anderson who formulated the rules, for he believes he should get off.

And former MRP member Jimmy Bartel also says he thinks Cotchin will get the benefit of the doubt.

The MRP is meeting this morning.

Time for all Tiger supporters to hold their breath.

I’m KB, that’s my take.

Meh
If he gets off - we'll have a good precedent for the inevitable early season MRP visit by Ziebell Cunners or any other key north player that seems to get 1-3 weeks in the opening rounds of the season.
Save this statute for 2018

That would be good if you could use precedence to state your case, but you can't...

I'm so over the whole "you wouldn't want him to miss a GF for that" angle.

What if his actions caused Shiel and 21 team mates to miss a GF?

**** him, Shiel got to the ball first, Cotchin elected to use his body as a weapon and got the bloke high. This is karma for smugly getting away with punching Neale.

There's been a bunch of cases this year where the fact that a players has been concussed has resulted in suspension, whereas if they weren't concussed the offending player would have been ok to play the next week.

The AFL is really wary of the lawsuits coming out of the NFL with players now suffering delayed symptoms of CTE so are vigilant in showing they're doing anything and everything to show they're providing a duty of care to players.
The link between concussion and symptoms is getting stronger with ex players donating their brain to science. NFL is nervous and have even stopped finding into further research.

If something like this Cotchin case got through and allowed a chance for further let offs it'd be a flaw in their defence for any future litigation.
The fact it is a GF shouldn't be relevant - as unfair as it sounds - and as much as people like to label you a weak campaigner, it's the way the rules should be applied across the board
