I'm going to need to remember to set an alarm for 7:30 on Sunday morning :yum:
To start your tail getting getting ready for the big mwcm game later on?

I know we're not meant to discuss "alternate methods" on BF - but surely it's reasonable if there's no way for us to see games?

Can someone please let me know the easiest way to watch LSU/Bama?

Thanks.

It's such a strange process with the committee. Being as selective as a politician about which criteria to apply when.

I get that they're keen to get discussion going on around the rankings and will often rank teams in back to back spots when they're going to still play each other, but seriously - OSU as the 1 seed, and PSU as the 4?

Whats your problem with the rankings

Ohio St are the best/most consistent team. They are #1 and have the best player in CFB
LSU 2nd. the Road win against Texas might be the best W for the top 5
Bama/Penn St 3rd/4th
and Clemson 5th because of the stumble against the Tarheels.

Alabama lose Sunday and its all over because of the schedule [unless there is total chaos]
LSU lose close and can still make it because of the road games at Texas and Bama. but would need a the Pac-12 Champion to stumble home, could get in over a 1 loss Utah if they have some unexpected close wins. 1 loss Oregon Champ gets in over 1 loss non champ LSU

Please tell me this was supposed to be sarcastic?

Or do you not remember the f**kery of the BCS system.
Vaguely remember controversy over TCU or somebody missing out, would have been in the playoff under the current 4 team system. They mostly got the top 2 teams correct under that system IMO.

But still I don't see why we can't have a system like that only tighter. Select a group of a few qualifiers be them strength of schedule, head to head results, quality wins, quality (or lack thereof) losses, conference championships, whatever you want, just decide on what they are and put them on a level of agreed importance to use as tie breakers. Some form of foolproof mathematical system. The way it is now just comes across as very subjective, I don't trust humans to put emotions, biases (recency and otherwise) aside when deciding this.

A few things OSU as no 1:

- AP and Coaches have had Bama/LSU in either 1st or 2nd the last few weeks.
- LSU have better ranked wins over Florida & Auburn (and to a lesser extent Texas) compared to Ohio's against Wisconsin and Cincinnati

On Clemson's ranking:

- Clemson have wiped everyone that they've played, except a close call against NC.
- Bama's signature win was against Texas A&M - (same as Clemson).
- Penn State also squeaked past Pitt in week 3 (their close call).

LSU/OSU/Bama/Clemson/Penn State would be a fair reflection.

TCU and Baylor was the first year of the CFP - they were ranked 3rd & 5th going in to the last week and both won and were Big12 co-champions. Ohio were 6th and had a massive win in the Big10 championship game and slaughtered Wisconsin 59-0 and the committee picked them over the 2 ranked ahead of them. Also they were on their 3rd QB by that stage.

Their selection was seen as a reach at the time, but proved spot on as the knocked out Alabama in the Semi Final, then went on to beat Oregon.

My qualm with the 4 team playoff now means we're seeing more soft schedules with teams trying to run the table, rather than meet strong opponents during the season which means we're seeing more garbage games.

Ohio State have a crazy defense. that is what is putting them over LSU in the rankings.

If it was a SEC team scoring 48 points a week and only giving up 8 there would be no discussion.

If LSU win this weekend they will jump Ohio St.

Rankings the first week of November are still kinda pointless when teams backload the schedule and have the big rivalry games in November.

The rankings are just a guide line right now.

Soft schedules are something i hate, and wish the committee would punish, but because most of the P5 teams play cupcakes and love to schedule one in mid November before a rivalry game it wont change.

Reward LSU for playing Texas, or Oregon for playing Auburn [Alabama tried it with Duke this year but Duke has fallen off]
punish teams like Clemson and Alabama who play Citadel or woffard every year. I understand why the FCS teams need the paydays but its just games that are a scrimmage for the teams who are contenders.

expanding the playoffs would be good, but how the do it would be hard, they still see them as "student athletes" so you cant force them into a pro like length schedule. but expand to 8 teams and just remove 1 game a year [the cupcake weekend] would be easy, but does punish FCS teams.

That's because chances are the SEC team would have at least a couple of quality wins (with the exception of Alabama this year).

Agreed with the rest of your post though (well apart from expanding the playoff, 4 is enough. It's the most cutthroat regular season of any sport and that's something worth preserving).

So Ohio State scoring 5TDs on a Wisconsin D who had only given up 7 all year is not a quality win. a at the time ranked MSU not a quality win, a shutout win over now ranked 20 Cincinnati is not a quality win? Ohio St is ranked as the 2nd best D in the nation, behind Wisconsin.

Like Alabama they still have 2 massive games at the end of the year with home Vs PSU and @ Michigan.

Yes LSU have wins over Texas, Florida and Auburn but 2 of them were 1 score games, Ohio St have blown everyone out.

Even if it was the old BCS system Ohio St would be #1 and Alabama of might be #2 based on the Offence and Defense metrics.

I’ll give you Wisconsin (barely). If they beat Michigan and Penn state then no argument from me.

Having a good defence or not just squeaking by in games hasn’t seem to have mattered in recent years when it comes to Oklahoma so I don’t see why it has to start mattering now.

So using the old BCS rankings (replacing Harris Interactive Poll with Coaches Poll - And as I cant remember which of the 4 Sagarin scores were used, I went predictor - It went by another name back then, and I remember the score used to order his list wasn't it.) The BCS Rankings would be

1. Ohio Sate - 0.952
2. LSU - 0.945
3. Alabama - 0.926
4. Clemson - 0.902
5. Penn State - 0.863
6. Oregon - 0.754
7. Georgia - 0.713
8. Oklahoma - 0.646 (0.6459)
9. Utah - 0.646 (0.6456)
10. Auburn - 0.595
11. Baylor - 0.593
12. Florida - 0.548
13. Minnesota - 0.526
14. Michigan - 0.494
15. Cincinnati - 0.423
16. Notre Dame - 0.355
17. Wisconsin - 0.331
18. Iowa - 0.300
19. Memphis - 0.299
20. SMU - 0.232
21. Boise State - 0.206
22. Kansas State - 0.176
23. Wake Forest - 0.174
24. Navy - 0.107
25. UCF - 0.086

Rest Ill do without overall score

26. San Diego State
27. Texas
28. Texas A&M
29. Appalachian State
30. Indiana
31. Oklahoma State
32. Louisiana Tech
33. Air Force
34. Pittsburgh
35. Virginia
36. Washington
37. Iowa State
38. North Dakota State
39. Wyoming
40. Michigan State
41. Washington State

What I hate at the moment is the computer love for the AAC.
Okay, they have a near perfect record vs teams in g5 conferences/fcs (27-1)
But theyre trash vs p5 (6-12)
But heres a list of the conferences OOC wins against p5 schools, you tell me the most impressive

p5
Temple 20-17 Maryland (3-6)
SMU 41-38 TCU (4-4)
Memphis 15-10 Ole Miss (3-6)
Cincinnati 24-14 UCLA (4-5)
UCF 45-27 Stanford (4-4)
Temple 24-2 Georgia Tech (2-6)

How can computers love a conference who has no good wins.
The conferences best win is literally a 3 point win over Wyoming.

I hate maths. Sweep the trash. Allow other conferences to schedule tough and have other conferences drop games, so the maths artificially inflates the AAC.

As much as Id like to see the BCS back. If conferences are going to manipulate the system (like SEC in the past and AAC now) thank god they got rid of it. (And don't worry. The MWC has a history of doing this in CBB, so were not in the clear)
