I don't have a problem with anything he said. Of course the media had to take him out of context to try and make a story out of it. The spear chucking gesture (at the opposition cheer squad) was pretty antagonistic though, and only fuelled the fire.
That dance was poorly interpreted due to a complete lack of knowledge and understanding. It is something indigenous kids up North do as a goal celebration. I've seen it in person and it is pure celebration.

Goodes pointed out afterwards that he'd been working with kids remote areas and he'd not seen it. They taught it to him. He did it as a kind of shout out to them.
After he said this people continue to say it's aggressive and he brought it on himself. I guess it is too hard to say oops I'm wrong.

I was a police officer for 20 years and I was racially vilified regularly. Now I was in the position of power and was not particularly concerned about the vilification but there was no doubt of the intent. Position of privilege is irrelevant to the argument of whether words or actions are racist in content or intent. To say it is justifies racism by those who have been downtrodden or discriminated against.

I abhor racism in all forms but I won’t accept the assertion that racism is only a one way street

Just to confirm - you were a white police office in a position of power, and you're concerned by the comments of those who have been downtrodden or discriminated against?

Look, their comments may be race-based. They might even prejudge you, based on their previous experiences with other white police officers in a position of power. But something being "racist" assumes it holds some power - AND THEY HOLD NO POWER OVER YOU. They are powerless and downtrodden and your position of privilege gives you the amazing opportunity of their words holding no impact to you. The comparison is completely empty.

How many weeks for the pathetic captain of Hawthorn?
I just watched 'the verdict'.

Jesus, there really is one rule for some but not for others. I don't care about the severity of the outcome, if someone (Ben Brown in this instance), raises his forearm and intentionally collects another player on the side of his jaw or face, that's minimum of a week IMO. Absolute garbage to adjudicate on the opinion there was insufficient force. Intentional forearm to the face - FMD how much more evidence do they need?

And fines... need to be a percentage of a player's earnings, not a fixed price. Imagine highly paid players like eg a Buddy Franklin getting a $2000 for something. That's the small change bouncing around in his Jeep, but for a first year rookie? It's disproportionate.

**** I hate the AFL.

Clarko calling it hysteria. Nah mate it's undercooked if anything. Grub behaviour that's been going on for years.
Clarko can shut his wide-mouthed-frog face. This campaigner has been condoning s**t behaviour like this since forever. I hope captain ****pinch gets games. How come Clarko is allowed to try and influence the tribunal by talking this ****?

Australia as a whole isn't racist. There will be a few who will always be racist in such a diverse country but in the main Australians aren't racist. You wouldn't have record high immigration over the last decade if we were. There are alot of people who make their living out of propagating the racism BS. They should be called out as vigorously as the actual racists.

As for Goodes - meh - don't have much respect for the guy. Not a big fan of people who are happy to destroy other peoples lives. The fact it was a dim 13 year old child makes his actions even more grotesque.

Changing subject I'm still stunned at the lack of media focus on Brad Ebert's concussion issues. Has only just got back on the field this weekend and has had multiple checks with a specialist. There should be a major focus on how Port have handled his knocks over the years.
I am going to take a different tack and say I would hope the focus is on Brett and his concussion issues in an informative light.

By that I mean the need for a neurosurgeon to be consulted, what to look out for and as noted the potential signs and management issues along the way

Whoever the person or club information should be out there for all to see and listen.

He has struggled for any normalcy and it took 3 weeks for him to feel ok waking up. I can just imagine how Dean Kemp and Scott Stevens must feel day in day out.

I am glad he is openly talking about this issue on Triple M and hope he can recover to a good level and makes the right decisions regarding his long term life future

A) Stratton's behaviour
B) his non-apology
C) Jeff's "I'm not racist but..."
D) Clarko's "I can't go too hard on him because I'm ok with it"

I can imagine Hawthorn's PR department heads exploding.

Surely Hawthorn would have a pre-existing plan for anything Kennett says? Feels like it's every month or so that he comes out with something like this.

Some of these people were quite well off. Besides, I still believe that racism is a 2 way street. Societal standing is totally irrelevant

"Not a big fan of people who are happy to destroy other peoples lives"

Would that extend to those who decided to boo Goodes after it was obviously affecting him?

Wow On the Couch showed footage of a security guard in Hobart able to walk on the oval to intervene in a scuffle between a North and Giants player, the emergency umpire had to waive him away.

That’s unbelievable
So Gillon claimed to the (no) crackdown at Docklands was a stadium initiative... yet this happened in Tasmania.

Comes out with a pathetic apology today.

Security telling the cheer squad to stop cheering.

What a joke of a CEO. Completely devoid of leadership. GTF out & let someone come in who has leadership & actual intelligence.

Get Wayne Jackson back

Gerard Healy has just given Gill a big whack, good man
Everyone in the industry knows Gil is a clown not deserving of being a CEO. Us as members are paying this guy plenty more than our Prime Minister. Goyder sack him as we deserve better.

There is the saying about paying a monkey peanuts, but we are paying a monkey treasures of gold & as fans we are not laughing...
