It what universe could this possible be considered let alone actually happen? This one I guess. I'd be furious as a Bengals fan they were even going down the interview path.
Whole-heartedly agree. Tho, both Joseph and Jackson as HC hires are bad ideas.
Would've been good to have a new young buck -- like one of the Rams guys they interviewed.
But given McDaniels turned down an interview and the only serious candidates are washed up retreads like Hue Jackson and Joseph....that clearly shows coaches don't want the Bengals due to a reason -- ie Mike Brown it has to be.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Jets are no longer pursuing Baylor coach Matt Rhule for their head coaching position.

Rhule had emerged as the favorite to replace Todd Bowles in East Rutherford, but he informed his staff Wednesday that he'll be staying at Baylor. Per beat reporter Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Rhule wanted to hire his own assistants, which was apparently a deal-breaker for the Jets. With Rhule no longer in the running, the Jets are left to choose between Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy, former Lions and Colts coach Jim Caldwell, former Dolphins coach Adam Gase, former Packers coach Mike McCarthy, former Buccaneers OC Todd Monken and Cowboys DBs coach/pass-game coordinator Kris Richard for their head coaching vacancy.

haha mccarthy snubbed again after making demands...

Sweet Jesus, times are tough when you're getting overlooked for Gase. Jets gonna Jet.

Gase is a train wreck. I look forward to him throwing a hissy fit when talented players bark back at him.

What has Gase actually done to be deserving of another HC stint straight away?

OC of a Peyton Manning lead team, hard job that.

"Cutler had his best year under Gase" ... id hope so, when he had weapons such as Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, Martellus Bennet and Matt Forte.

With former Packers coach Mike McCarthy going all in for the Jets job and with the Jets going all in for Adam Gase, McCarthy is officially SOL for 2019.

The good news is that the Packers will pay him to not work, until his contract expires. It’s expected that he’ll land a gig in broadcasting, taking his Pittsburgh dialect most likely to Bristol, joining an ever-growing army of on-air analysts.

So what happens next for McCarthy the football coach? He could end up being in play in 2020, or maybe not. The fact that there was no land rush for his services in the current hiring cycle underscores the widespread concerns regarding perceived (or actual) inflexibility and simplicity of his approach to offense. It’s widely regarded as an all-too-easily defended attack, lacking in creativity and innovation.

Apparently, the various teams currently looking for head coaches agreed.

The one place he could end up eventually being in play is Seattle. McCarthy and G.M. John Schneider are believed to be close friends, and Pete Carroll is likely moving toward the end of his run with the Seahawks. If Schneider stays post-Pete, McCarthy could be the successor to Carroll

Dowell Loggains is expected to join Adam Gase in New York as the Jets’ main offensive assistant, Jeff Darlington of ESPN reports.

Loggains served as Gase’s offensive coordinator in Miami in 2018. Loggains also had that role with the Titans (2012-13) and Bears (2016-17).

Former Broncos head coach Vance Joseph could join Gase as the Jets’ defensive coordinator, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. Joseph, though, remains a candidate for the head coaching vacancy in Cincinnati.

Gase and Joseph worked together in Miami, with Joseph serving as the Dolphins’ defensive coordinator in 2016.

Unsurprising given the quality of the field this year. Most of the potential black candidates this year were either defensive coaches, re-treads or both in a year when everyone seemingly is looking for the next young, hotshot offensive play caller. I think Eric Bieniemy is the only coach of colour that could even get close to that description and he's hardly young

I think a bigger question should be why there's only one black GM in the league right now

It gets even worse, Dowell Loggains, aka Gase's hand puppet and yes man following him from Miami to NY.

Control freak gotta control.

Re Gase, I suppose he got the Fins in the playoffs in his first season when Tannehill only missed a couple.

Following year lost Tannehill for the season and ran Landry and Ajayi our of town for whatever reason.

This year with less talented roster and heap of injuries and weren’t that far away.

Working with a real talent in Darnold. Jets have plenty to spend and Gase won’t have free rein over personnel

They'll be a better team than Bowles' Jets. That first year. But much will depend if Gase has learned from his stint in Miami, if the Jets have a little heirarchy above him where he can't go full Gruden/McDaniels/etc.
