Reaching out to someone to invite them to interview for a job is not the same as hiring them, especially in an environment like the NFL Head Coaching ranks where it seems like the franchises go around looking for who to appoint rather than the other way around

Take it for what you will.....Apparently Cardinals offered FULL CONTROL to Mike McCarthy which meant firing GM Steve Kiem and letting McCarthy run everything and apparently he turned it down. There is not a Head Coach who would turn down full control over everything, if he turned them down its probably because he has a deal already in place elsewhere like Cleveland.

That probably means the exact opposite.

1. Dorsey confirms Williams/Kitchens for 2019 in the 9am presser.
2. McCarthy accepts Cardinals job.

King: Gregg Williams doesn’t appear to be serious candidate in Cleveland

The Browns couldn’t pull off the comeback win in Baltimore on Sunday afternoon, but the second half of the 2018 season was still a big success in Cleveland.

Winning five of their final eight games left the Browns with a 7-8-1 record, which is their best since 2007 and something to build on for next season. That run came after the Browns fired Hue Jackson and installed Gregg Williams as their interim head coach, so there’s been some discussion about whether Williams will get a chance to continue in the job.

Williams is going to get an interview for the permanent job, but Peter King writes in Monday’s Football Morning in America column that “it doesn’t look like he’ll be a serious candidate” for the job.

King adds that a defensive-minded or special teams coach could be considered if it means offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens would stay on board, but adds that the team is expected to vet Josh McDaniels and Lincoln Riley as well. A report over the weekend indicated they have reached out to former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy and there will likely be more names bubbling up in the coming days.

Report: Raiders hire Mike Mayock as G.M.

The Raiders have a new G.M., and NFL Network needs a new lead draft analyst.

Mike Mayock will be the next General Manager of the Raiders, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The announcement could come as soon as today.

Raiders coach Jon Gruden has been friendly with Mayock for years, and they have mutual respect from both having worked as television analysts.

Still, it’s a surprising decision to hire Mayock, who has no experience running an NFL front office, to be in charge of the draft room. Just because Mayock is good at talking about the draft on TV, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s good at making the decisions on draft day.

Of course, Mayock won’t actually be the one making the final decisions. Gruden will surely have final say, and Gruden may have wanted a G.M. who has no experience getting final say because Gruden wants it to be clear who’s in charge.

The Raiders have three first-round picks in 2019, and two first-round picks in 2020. Gruden and Mayock will need to use them wisely.

Browns GM John Dorsey said interim coach Gregg Williams will interview for the permanent job on Tuesday.

OC Freddie Kitchens will also get an interview. Williams is not considered to be a strong candidate for the job, and Dorsey made it clear on Monday he plans to conduct a wide-ranging search. Even so, Williams has to at least be in the running after turning Cleveland's season around.

Cardinals fired coach Steve Wilks.

Wilks should probably feel hard done after getting just one season with a bad roster to show what he could do. That said, Wilks and his staff made several puzzling schematic decisions early in the season, misusing both David Johnson and Patrick Peterson, and the Cardinals almost had to make a change after first-round QB Josh Rosen seemed to regress as the year went on playing in the worst offense in the league. A good assistant and one-year defensive coordinator in Carolina, Wilks should land on his feet.

The Boston Globe's Jim McBride reports the Packers have requested an interview with Patriots de facto DC Brian Flores.

Green Bay also wants to interview Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, who seems like a better bet to land a job this cycle. The Browns also want to speak with Flores. In his first season calling the plays, the Patriots' defense finished 21st in total defense but seventh in points allowed.

The Boston Globe's Jim McBride reports the Packers have requested an interview with Patriots OC Josh McDaniels.

Green Bay also wants to interview Patriots de facto DC Brian Flores. Apparently not suffering any ill effects to his reputation after leaving the Colts at the altar last year, McDaniels again looks set to be one of the hottest coaching candidates in what many believe is a down year. It would be surprising if he does not end up with a head coaching job, but the same could have and was said last year.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Mike Zimmer is expected to remain with the Vikings in 2019.

Zimmer told Pelissero he is "not retiring or resigning," and Pelissero reports multiple sources would "be shocked" if the coach is fired. Zimmer's contract only runs through 2019, so he will likely get a short-term extension this offseason to prevent him from being a lame-duck coach. Even so, he will be on the hot seat if the Vikings do not reach the playoffs in 2019.

Raiders hired NFL Network's Mike Mayock to be their general manager.

That did not take long. Mayock was floated as a "strong candidate" for the job on Sunday, and the deal was apparently done by Monday morning. It is not clear if the Raiders even interviewed anyone else for the job. A former defensive back who spent two seasons in the league, Mayock made his name as an engaging and informative draft analyst, but he has zero front office experience, although he did interview for this same job once when Al Davis was still around. With Mayock on board, the Raiders' power structure consists of two people who have spent the majority of the last decade in T.V. studios rather than in the league. It will be interesting, to say the least, to see how that works out.

Broncos fired coach Vance Joseph.

Joseph presided of the first back-to-back losing seasons in Denver since the early 70s. He can rightfully point to the quarterback position as a reason for his struggles over the last two years, but the Broncos also underachieved on defense under Joseph, especially this season. Despite this failed run as a head coach, Joseph could end up in a defensive coordinator job if he wants to coach in 2019.

Dolphins fired coach Adam Gase.

It is not a surprising move as Gase was thought to be on the hot seat following another losing season, but his fate did not seem decided before the Dolphins were humiliated 42-17 by the Bills in the season finale. Gase's case is an interesting one because Miami has arguably overachieved during his time there, making the playoffs in 2016 and winning more games than most expected this year, but he also made several puzzling personnel decisions and chased off several talented skill position players. In a weak coaching class, it would not be surprising if Gase immediately lands another head coaching job. At worst, he should be coordinating an offense in 2019.

Bengals fired coach Marvin Lewis.

With the Bengals since 2003, Lewis was the second-longest-tenured coach behind just Bill Belichick, surviving 16 seasons despite a 0-7 record in the playoffs and losing seasons in each of the last three years. Despite those playoff disappointments and how the run ended, Lewis' tenure has to to be viewed as a success. He helped transform the Bengals from a laughing stock into a yearly playoff contender, leading the team to the same number of playoff appearances as they had in the 35 seasons before he got there. While his coaching days are likely done, it is possible Lewis pops back up in a front office job in 2019.
