Anybody when finished picking a team think to themselves, how have I been able to afford that..

Then other times you're picking a team and you run out of money on the 28th player and feel like they've genuinely short changed you 300k because the team looks like shit..
What stands out for me is how much harder it is picking a team I'm happy with under the cap compared to last year.
In 2018 I had 14 premos, JOM at M6 and over 100k left (which was to get Danger in)
It's because last year Gawn, Smith and Cripps were all cheap as, and the top backs were cheaper too.
This year Grundy+Gawn over 700k,Lloyd 600k (Sicily + Laird not far behind) just more pricey all round.
No matter how I construct my team there's a weakness somewhere, whether it's D4, M5, F4 or R2

Hypothetically, if Fort gets the nod for Geelong round 1, do people go about changing a M11 or D8 a floating donut or go without?

Clearly a case for having as much cash generation as possible, that’s the aim of the game, but the captain loophole can potentially improve your week by 100+ points.
What are the odds that every player in your squad for week 1 will be picked for week 2? If they all play then you are a genius. My point is week 1 is probably the hardest for C/ VC unless you specifically pick a non playing loop. If Fort is picked he will be my R3. Lack of DPP Ruck/ forward options this year makes R3 more important than just a loop IMO.

After Dustys 139 VC last year in Rd1, locking that in and picking English as R3 was the way to go. From Rd2 there was certainly rookie loopholes open from already being dropped.

All about maximising that cash early on.

Some clubs are simply organizing in house matches B4 the JLT start .....but IMO I can see this initiative taking off across the AFL ......get the best U23 players playing each other ...leaving the JLT to essentially your starting lineups + 1-2 rookies graduating from the U23 game :thumbsu:

The best young talent across South Australia's two AFL clubs will be showcased on Saturday February 23 when Adelaide faces Port Adelaide in an Under-23 trial game.

The Crows and Power have worked closely to organise the pre-season hit-out at Thebarton Oval before their scheduled JLT Community Series Showdown in Port Pirie a week later.

Adelaide’s two first round draftees, Chayce Jones (Pick No.9) and Ned McHenry (No.16), are set to receive their first taste of competitive action against the Power.

They could square off against their Port Adelaide equivalents in Connor Rozee (No.5), Zak Butter (No.12) and Xavier Duursma (No.18).

The trial game announcement comes after three other AFL practice games have been confirmed in recent days. Hawthorn will face Carlton on Thursday February 21, while Collingwood v Melbourne and Geelong v North Melbourne will take place the following day.

I currently have Clark as my D8. Not sure he'll be there round 1, but should play soon enough.

Is there an Ahern type this year?

Anyone else having trouble viewing HS articles using outline.com?

Seems to work for articles posted last year but not this year?

Day or night game..?

At this stage, I have my basic team structure set until the JLT. That is 2 premiums 1 mid/subpremo in defence, 4-1 in midfield, 2-0 in rucks, 3-0 in forwards (the two mid guys are Williams and Steele - so closer to subpremos rather than genuine midpricers). Everyone will call it unlikely to say I am set, but I have done enough research to determine who I classify as an upgrade target and when I can bring them in to have a basic knowledge of my bye structure.

That being said, I have 150k left over.

My key issues to play around with are:
Williams v Whitfield
123k rookie v Walsh
Bont v Macrae
Steele v Neale

At this stage I have the first 4 named and have the 150k left over. At this stage I'm less keen on Macrae, because I also have Lloyd, Dangerfield, Grundy, Gawn and Cripps in (i.e. enough super premos). Walsh is a wait and see for the JLT to see if he'll be worth it, and taking Whitfield leaves me close to skint. At this stage the most likely upgrade is Steele to Neale and take 50k in the bank...however, if Walsh/Whitfield make me think I *need* them in JLT, then Steele is my back-up M5.

At this stage my basic plans and upgrade targets are before the byes:
2 of Laird, Simpson, Whitfield
1 of Crisp, Howe
2 of Neale, Oliver and to a lesser extent keeping eyes on Treloar, Beams, Duncan, Selwood, Yeo, Gaff and Redden
1 of Smith, Dunkley and to a lesser extent keeping eyes on Mundy and Wingard

Whether or not I go for an undervalued guy or try to jump on board a Macrae-tier bandwagon will be based on how the rest of the team is going - if Grundy/Gawn/Cripp//Dangerfield/Fyfe are all pumping out 120+ and Lloyd 110+, I'm less likely to jump on Macrae until after his bye.

After their respective byes:
Macrae - round 12
Hawkins - round 13
Best available forward - round 14

Crisp, Oliver, Hawkins really appeal to me based on either limited pre-seasons or strong history of scoring well in back halves of the season. These are probably the big 3 I'll look to target at times and will stick true to that.

I think it's important to stick to a plan because too often you get sucked into chasing short-term points and getting in a 100 that you don't want in round 12 to cover the byes could cost you 200 points in the back half by getting 100 midfielder to a 120...
